An Evening With
We have many great memories of Springfield, MO, whether it be great shows or great barbecue. But when I think of Springfield, I am first reminded of the time when we held a baby tiger. Yes, you heard me correctly. We were here for the Come Together Tour and went to lunch with Paul Colman. In the parking lot, they had a baby tiger and you could pay $1 and get your picture taken with it. Yup. In Springfield you just never know what you're going to get.
Today ended up being really great. We played at the Gillioz Theatre, which is right downtown and just dripping with vibe. Vibe is a big deal to us musical types. Something about playing at this old theatre in a midwestern town evoked some great memories of the Conspiracy era in the late 90's.
With it being Saturday, many of us spent our time watching college football. The Missouri Tigers won, so hopefully that would mean the fans in Missouri are ready for a rock show. Mac was really fired up that his Alabama Crimson Tide had a big game against LSU, but he would have to wait until after the show to find out the result. There was some kind of exercise convention in town, so Tai went and got his exercise on. I ate a bacon cheeseburger to try to maintain some balance.
The show tonight ended up being truly fantastic. Something about the room and the crowd created a really great energy that made it easy to get up there and perform. We even added a few extra requests in there. "Gomer's Theme", which we hadn't played in years, was a bit, um, interesting. And "Lift Up Your Face", which we've played as recently as last summer, felt harder in a way because it feels like you should know how to play it but you kind of have to think about it. But overall it was a great night. As we played "Gone' to finish out the encore, I thought this might be one of the better shows we've had in months. I still think that.
Well, no baby tigers this time, but we really had a great time in Springfield. Let's do this again real soon!
