Peter was nice enough to come over and take a photo with us after his set. Great music but I can't believe he didn't sing "Shine" or "Breakfast". Or anything off the new album!
I'm going to go ahead and get this out of the way first: we do not play Montana nearly enough. In our 20+ year career, today was the second time we've played here. It is beautiful state with some amazingly great people.
Today was a long travel day. After Lifest we drove through the night to the Minneapolis airport, then flew to Bozeman. We were pretty tired when we got there, but were instantly energized by the beautiful scenery. I mean, the sky. It's so, big.
Our afternoon's activities were a bit split. Mac, Scotty, and Brian went to a movie, while David, Tai and myself went hiking at Palisade Falls. It was amazing being able to spend a little time in the great outdoors in a great place like Montana. Truly awe inspiring.
After a meet and greet and a catering meal consisting of a ridiculously good amount of smoked meats, the show commenced. Our good friend Peter Furler opened the night. I sat on the back row and watched the whole show. It was just Peter and a drummer, creating a really raw energy a la Jack White. Really cool stuff. Colton Dixon was also on the bill, so we got to have a mini reunion from our spring tour before our set.
Our performance tonight was unbelievable. I know I say that a lot, but it was truly a great night. Those of us onstage could feel the excitement from the crowd. They don't get a lot of live music in this area, and it was like they were soaking up every moment. That dynamic between band and audience made for a really fun and energy packed night. I think the highlights were the songs that we haven't done in a while. You Are So Good to Me was great, as was I've Always Loved You. Mac's message before I Need a Miracle was on point. It was also special being able to pray with the people of Bozeman.
As I said earlier, we don't come to Montana nearly often enough. We need to come back soon. Until then, thanks for such a memorable day.
