From The Vault
In January of 2008, Third Day had a once in a lifetime opportunity. We embarked on a tour to entertain our troops with the USO. The USO dubbed the tour the THIRD DAY God and Country Tour as we were the first Christian band to embark on a USO tour. It's been 5 1/2 years since the trip, but it is still an enduring memory for each of the guys in the band, and one of the most meaningful trips we've ever taken. We had so many life changing memories and encounters performing for the troops. We'll never forget looking out to an audience of a sea of well armed camouflaged soldiers, feeling an extra urgency to give our all. It was incredibly powerful to worship God together with the soldiers that serve our country so close to where Abraham himself first heard God's call.
We flew in the back of C-130s, shot machine guns, played concerts, hung out with soldiers, and experienced firsthand a little of what our soldiers do for us everyday. Perhaps the most memorable part of the trip was flying out of Baghdad back to Kuwait for our flights home. That flight became an angel flight as we shared it with the body of a fallen American soldier. Later that year, we were able to share that story and experience with the family of that fallen hero over many, many tears.
Since this trip, we've all felt a greater affinity and appreciation for our men and women in uniform. We've also had the opportunity to tour Walter Reed hospital in Virginia where many of the wounded soldiers return for treatment. We are often lauded for the sacrifices we make being away from our families to do Third Day, but it pales in comparison to the tremendous sacrifice and courage our troops exercise daily. We were given the gift of an incredible perspective on this tour.
As we celebrate our country this Fourth of July, we'd love to share with you one of the concerts from that trip. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this digital download will go to the Wounded Warrior Project to assist in the recovery of our soldiers who give so much for our freedom.
