Today started a little 3 show run. These shows are a bit hard to describe. They're not "tour" shows because were not officially on tour with our Full production, but they are our events so we're not part of a larger program, festival, or conference. We're kind of using this run to try out a few things for the spring tour and to let some ideas come together of how we an put together a really killer show.
We met up at the studio about noon to drive up to the show. We spent the time on the bus trip talking about a few things we could do to make the shows special. Then, as is his custom, Mac took a nap. (which led to him staying up to 5 AM later!)
We got a pretty hefty soundcheck, where we shook off the cobwebs and tried to run over some newer songs and a Christmas song for the show.
I talked production with our Production Manager and lighting Director. I went for a walk through the lobby where I saw that our merchandise vendor took some liberty. We were using this weekend to blow through some old merchandise that had been building up in the warehouse. Stuff from 2, 3, 4,5 years ago. I planned on having some discount clearance bins at these shows to blow through this old stock. They had cleverly labeled it "VINTAGE MERCHANDISE!" Anyway, I was impressed. And, we blew through all the older stock.
Today, we also tested out our new relationship with Grand Canyon University by giving away a $10,000 scholarship. Mark shared how he's going to be going Back to School by taking online courses on the road. Pretty Cool, academically speaking!
