Back on the road with the guys! On the first night of the Music Builds tour here in Detroit we found time for a devotion together. Being a man who always goes for the obvious I focused on the theme of building.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." Matthew 7.24
Here's a summary of my comments:
*Both houses mentioned in this parable of Jesus look fine in good weather, but when the storms come only the one with the strong foundation remains standing.
*What can't be seen in public is important- the underground foundation. For example, so much preparation and hard work goes into making a tour like this strong-but most of that work will never be seen by the audience.
*A pretend faith, an intellectual faith, or a faith in small doses, are all examples of building with no solid foundation.
*Wise building is putting the words of Jesus into practice; a real-life, practical faith.
*Matthew 13.21 shows us the danger of not building deep:
But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.
*I've just been in Chicago for a few days vacation with my wife and heard this cool fact. When the world-famous Sears Tower was built, the builders spent the first 12 months digging 150 feet into the ground to lay strong foundations. A whole year and nothing was built upwards, only digging downwards. Dr. Paul Yonghi Cho tells a story about his frustrations of being delayed by building works in the city of Seoul, Korea, that seemed to be taking ages to complete. When he asked the foreman why the work was so slow, he was told "Because we intend to build big we have to ensure that we dig deep."
* I firmly believe that this tour will prove that MUSIC BUILDS and that Third Day are master craftsmen at helping build the Kingdom of God. We prayed for the tour to be on the solid foundation of Jesus-sometimes that foundation will be publicly seen and other times it won't- and we prayed that many people tonight and each night of the tour will begin to build their lives on the solid rock that is our Lord and Savior Jesus.
