I don't know if we've ever done a show on the 4th of July before. It's normally a day we have reserved for family time. Today, we spent some time with our extended family, a great group of Third Day fans. Every now and then, private travel makes the most sense for the band. It's a rare treat that we really enjoy. We get to spend some good time at home, go knock out a show, and get back home to sleep in our own beds. Today was that special time for this year. We left Atlanta about 1:30 with the band and Mike to help facilitate the show. As soon as we landed, we went right to a very casual, picnic style meet and greet with the VIP tix holders and our wired fans and guests. Then, we went backstage for about an hour, then took the stage.
I always tell people that Christian music is very erratic. This show proved that point. Our previous show had an audience of 80,000 fans at Creation Festival. Today, we had the smallest crowd of the year with about 500-1000 fans. But, they came to have a great time. There was just a great feel to the crowd. With no lights or large American Flag backdrop (next time!), the focus was on the music and the message.
We all really enjoyed the show and made it home to see some fireworks going off in the sky as we landed.
