This show definitely takes the prize for the smallest venue of the summer. It's challenging for our crew to switch gears from playing outdoor festivals and sheds to playing a small convention center with cinder block walls. Some of the gear was a little bit "small" for a rock show so the crew were all pretty grumpy by the time I stumbled off the bus to check out the room.
We ended up finding a way to squeeze most of the gear onto the stage and get it all checked and ready to go. Then it was time for football. Mac dominated the front Lounge cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Duke Blue Devils. It was a huge runaway. Mark hung in the back lounge watching Georgia Tech take on UNC.
Before the show, we caught up with Michael and Danny from one of our favorite bands from back in the day, Small Town Poets. They're both working at a church together in the Hickory area.
Then, the show. It was actually a lot of fun. It felt like playing at a club with all the kids packed in together, and they all seemed to enjoy the show even if they were a tad bit younger than our average audience
