with Skillet, Mandisa, Brandon Heath, Peter Furler, We As Human
Today we joined back up with the Third Day / Skillet Tour for a stop in Columbus. Just getting there was an adventure.
We boarded a hotel shuttle at about 8:30 this morning, which is early by rock and roll standards.
"Welcome to your hotel airport shuttle. I'm going to be your tour guide for the next 5 to 7 minutes."
You've got to be kidding, I thought.
He wasn't kidding. For the next 5 to 7 minutes we were subjected to everything we wanted to know, and then some, about the Tampa Airport, Raymond James Stadium, and the Yankees spring training facilities. Under normal circumstances it would have been okay, but the early hour combined with the compulsory nature of our "tour" conspired to make me feel like that poor dude in Clockwork Orange.
The rest of our travel to Columbus was pretty straightforward. Upon arriving in town, we were fully expecting an arctic blast. We were surprised and delighted to find a beautiful spring-like day awaiting us. Scotty, Brian, and Mac had lunch with some friends at a cool market restaurant. David and I went to a burger joint. It was a great day.
At around 6 we did a meet and greet. The show tonight was sold out, so the crowd at the meet and greet was massive. That's a good problem to have if you ask me.
The actual show tonight was really great. As opposed to the arenas we've grown accustomed to over the last two months, the venue for tonight was a cool theatre. It gave the show more of a rock edge. Brandon Heath and Mandisa are out for the rest of the month. It was fun to watch them from side stage. The crowd was with them from the very first note. They were definitely with us on our set. We brought out Jen from Skillet again to sit in on Born Again, and she killed it. I Am Free with Peter was fun as well. All in all, it was an amazing night.
As I type this, I'm sitting on the bus with the other guys and Brandon Heath. Brandon toured with us about five years ago, and was a great hang. It feels right having him out again!
Good times. Hopefully we'll keep it going in Chicago tomorrow!
