This morning, I looked out the window of our tour bus, and I saw something I haven't seen a lot in the last year or two. A skyline. We've done a ton of shows since Miracle came out, but many of them have been in smaller towns and suburbs. There's something really special about playing at the big arena in a big city like Portland.
It was a good day today, albeit a little short because of the long drive from Sacramento. Portland is such a great town. Some of us got out today and saw a movie. I worked on my gear some more. I'm getting there! We had some special guests - the A and R guys from our record company (It's their job to help us make our recorded music sound great).
in many respects, the second stop of a tour is the hardest. The first show is nerve racking, but you've had a long time to prepare for it. But the second night you have 24 hours to get ready. And today was doubly hard because we had a long drive last night. But the crew did an outstanding job of turning everything around and getting set up for a big show in Portland.
And it ended up being an amazing show. We love playing all kinds of venues, but we really love playing arenas. It's challenging, in a good way, to have to move around more and project more and make sure everyone feels like they're a part of it. It's a lot of work, but there's nothing like it. Tonight was one of the better shows we've done in recent memory. Great crowd - they were ready to rock from the downbeat of the first song.
Thanks again, Portland, for an amazing night. You have definitely raised the bar for the rest of the tour!
