It's like magic. You get up in the morning, take your kids to school, do some usual stuff around the house. Then later that afternoon you are in another state getting ready to do a big rock show. Thank you, Delta.
We've done a lot of shows in our day. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000. We remember just about every show, good and bad. But much of the scenery we see is the same: bus, parking lot, backstage area. So the way we're really able to distinguish between different nights on tour is the food we eat. Seriously. And we will remember tonight for a long time. Hogapalooza Barbecue, based in Jonesboro, might be some of the best barbecue we've ever had. Ever had barbecue nachos? They're killer. Highly recommended.
If you were a part of the meet and greet tonight, you got to experience this firsthand. Instead of doing the usual meet and greet, we did an "eat and greet" where folks got their picture made with the band and then sat down and enjoyed a fine meal of, you guessed it, Hogapalooza Barbecue. It seemed really fun - if this goes well you might see more of these in the future.
The show tonight was excellent. I mentioned in Tallahassee that we are still trying to figure out this "evening with" format. Tonight we just didn't really worry about it, and it seemed to be great. The acoustic set was a highlight as usual, as were songs like "Miracle" and old favorites like "You Are So Good" and "My Hope Is You". It's a blast for us to play a longer set and be a little more vulnerable, sharing stories and songs we don't normally play. I hope y'all like it as much as we do.
After the show, I watched the end of the Georgia Tech - Virginia Tech football game. It didn't go my way, but at least I can say that Tech won.
Another feature of these "evening with" shows is we usually sign autographs after the show. We don't get to do that nearly as much as we'd like. It's always great to interact with the audience on a more personal level. And I'm always amazed at how many people tell us about songs they wish we'd played. Hey, when you play a 2 hour set and they're still wanting more, I'll take that!
Thanks again, Jonesboro, for an evening we won't forget. Because of the barbecue, remember?
