The iPhone is the guy all guys want to be, and all the girls want to be with. It was a game changer when we think about mobile devices. There is nothing wrong with others working to develop better and more innovative technology, I don't see the point on being a "hater" either.

Keep in mind all that is said from someone who has a HTC Hero, Loves the phone, and really has no desire to get an iPhone... as a matter of fact, I am thinking I may switch to an Evo in 2011...

I am also a huge supporter of Google, who I see as one of the most innovative companies on the planet when it comes to web, and web delivered applications.
Well, the iPhone-4 is out now, so maybe a fair comparison would be the HTC-Incredible versus the iPhone-4.

Very informative thread.
Glad I started it.

My bro-in-law has the HTC Droid-Eris from Verizon, and it seems kinda laggy, but other than that, I really like it.

Kinda like Tree said, the feel of the touchscreen is really important, and until recently, most of the iphone's competition used "resistive touchscreens" which can't compare in feel to the iphone's "capacitive touchscreen."

Not to mention the iphone is just so quick and smooth, and that helps the feel too. When I tap a button on the screen, unless I am opening an app I don't want to have to wait for the phone to catch up to what I am doing. And even opening an app, I don't want an unreasonable amount of load time.

But lag when going through menus and such, is unacceptable to me.
My Chocolate Touch has a lot of lag. Couple that with the resistive touchscreen, and it's just a beast to use. If I didn't really love the idea of touchscreen phones, and if this phone weren't about as good as it gets as a music phone from Verizon, I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10 foot pole. But it is really good with my mp3's, and I do love touchscreens, so I put up with it for now.

My wife and I are on the same account with Verizon, and it's about $145 per month as it is, and neither of us have unlimitted data. My wife doesn't have a data plan at all. I can't afford to tack on another $20 to upgrade my 25mb to unlimitted right now. I would if I could.

And I have had good service, and such with Verizon, but I am seriously considering switching to Sprint or T-Mobile to save $$$. We live in a metropolitan area where almost any carrier has a strong signal, so that isn't much of an issue. And with the new baby, we need to save where we can.

This is what we get from Verizon for $145 per month.

My phone:
25Mb data per month
VZ Navigator (GPS App)
Mobile email (comes with my data plan)
500 texts per month
1400 anytime minutes (shared with my wife)
Unlimited Verizon to Verizon calls

My wife's phone
500 texts per month
1400 anytime minutes (shared with me)
Unlimited Verizon to Verizon calls

And that's it.

This is what we would get from Sprint.

Both phones:
1500 shared minutes
Unlimitted texts
Unlimitted data
GPS
Mobile Email
And unlimitted mobile to mobile calls (not just calls on the same carrier, like with Verizon)

All for $130 per month.

So I could get an android phone with unlimitted data, and have a lower monthly bill by switching. And I don't think Sprint is even the cheapest out there. They are just cheaper than Verizon and AT&T.

Unless Sprint's coverage just totally sucks, I can't see any reason to stick with Verizon.
Now keep in mind I've had a Verizon cellphone, and the same number for about 10 - 12 years.
And my $145 monthly bill is after a 10% discount that I get for working where I do.

Sprint is $20 cheaper without any discounts at all.

The only apps I use that use data are VZ Navigator and Mobile Email. And to be fair I can use both of those apps to my heart's content, and never come close to exceeding my 25Mb montly allowance.
However, I have started using the Facebook app, and I checked my Data counter as I did, and it started climbing quickly. So even though the facebook app isn't all the great, I'd like to use it, but can't because it is just too much of a data hog.

And Verizon charges me $10 per month to use their Navigator. A Garmin or Tom-Tom would be way better, and no monthly fee at all. And if I didn't mind having to carry one more device and keep it charged, I would do that.
And $10 per month per phone for 500 texts. That is ridiculous.
If I pay $10 per month for a text package for one phone, I expect it to be unlimitted. Even then it would be overpriced, but still. But $10 for only 500 messages? Come on.

Anyone have problems with calls on a Blackberry? Greg(onesawthelight) and I just got BB Curves and his is constantly dropping calls. We have it through Alltel and his old regular cell didn't do this. I still live in Chicago so I haven't had a problem yet with mine. We have a 2 year contract so it's going to be a long time till we can get some other phones. The other features of the phone seem really good, but we need phones that are reliable in calls.
