I know i'm an oldie, and really not a part of the community any more, but seeing that there is an official pay to get in fan club makes me sad.
I salute you Third Day for holding out so long.

I'm actually okay with it. There's still no charge for being a Gomer, and given the extra stuff that's being included in Wired, they've got to pay for the extras somehow and that means charging for it.
Someone at one point said that we should actually THANK Third Day for making this stuff available to us, which I think is more than a smidge excessive. But I'm okay with paying a little something to get a little something. And at $30 per year, it's only $2.50 per month. The perks that are included are well worth $2.50 per month, IMHO. :)
But I can definitely understand if people DON'T want to sign up too, some people just aren't into paid clubs. I wouldn't do it for anyone else (although I did see that Blue Man Group has one too that I was looking into. Now THAT would be cool. ) but 3D is a little different.
Just my 2 cents on the subject. :)

We'll have to see whether it's worth doing the 'Wired' thing year after year. For us international gomers I suspect it'll be worth doing it every other year or something, ie; the year they come to England would be really beneficial. At the mo the meet and greet passes are of no use. Unless of course I can put my name down to meet the guys and someone else uses it. Would that work? *Hmmmmm - thinks*

For you international Gomers, I can definitely see where, after the first year, just renewing in years when they're touring there would make more sense than paying year after year after year. Unless there is so much NEW content (more concerts and stuff) added each year to make renewing worth while for you.
Heck, I do that with the U2 online fan club. I get next to nothing of use from their paid club website areas (not enough to make it worth signing up for year after year, anyway), but will usually sign up when a new CD is released to make sure I get presale access to the concert tickets when they tour for it. And it paid off in spades last time, not only did I get a great seat for the show in Charlotte, I met Doug, who had the seat next to me, that night. *sappy romantic grin*

Of course you are!
The paid fan club is pretty awesome actually. With the free T-shirt, right there it almost pays for itself. Not to mention the great shows you get to listen to, WOW! And.....you select the show you are going to be at for a M&G. So no more wishing you could meet the band, this allows everyone access.

Except for those who can't afford it.

Except for those who can't afford it.Unfortunately, there will always be people who can't afford something. There are people who can't afford one show a tour, nevermind several. And there are people who can't even afford a t-shirt or CD, so to me, that's kind of a moot point... There are probably more people than not who would rather see the concert or have a CD than actually meet the band, and they can't even do that, but it doesn't mean they don't have access.

I'm kinda really really broke at the moment, so this won't be something I do anytime real soon. But who knows, when things look up, maybe I will. I can say that I was kinda shocked by the announcement. Not sure why LOL, but I was.
Just as long as this place isn't going away LOL, I'm cool with it I guess.

Can someone tell me - I asked before, but didn't get an answer, does this mean there will be no meet and greet opportunities unless you are a paid member?

That's what I want to know too. I have asked the same thing in a number of different ways but haven't got an answer either.

I'm sure promoters and radio stations will continue to receive the same opportunities as they did before.

I agree that there will always be people who can't afford it. That's part of life. My point is more that everybody keeps talking about how everyone now has access to the band through the meet and greets being offered, etc. That's not true. Not everyone has access.
This is a paid fan club, which suggests that not everybody will have access for whatever reason (can't afford it, choose not to participate, etc.). I have been a member of paid fan clubs for other artists in the past. Part of the allure is that not everybody will have access to things you do.
There's nothing wrong with it being exclusive. Let's just be honest and not say everybody has access when they don't.
(For the record, I currently choose not to sign up for Wired for a variety of reasons, the least of which is cost. I have no ill feelings towards those who have chosen to sign up; more power to them and I hope they enjoy it.)

That's right. M&G passes are very hard to get. Now, with a membership, they aren't. :)

I don't understand how anyone could be upset about Wired, unless they can't afford it. Then it is understandable, because up until now everyone could do everything . . . well, almost. Now M&Gs are so much more accessible, and hearing shows you couldn't go to is possible thanks to the Wired Radio. But this is not taking anything away from what we've always had. It's adding more stuff.
Believe me, Third Day has shelled out a lot over the years for us to have this website everything else we've always enjoyed for free. And it pains them, it really does, to have to ask for money for anything. But if they are to offer us more, then we are going to have to pitch in a little. I don't think it's asking too much at all.
And in this day and age, $30 is not much. I expected this to cost at least $60! Don't forget, Christmas is coming. Surely most that can't afford it have someone wondering what to get them for Christmas that costs just around $30. Or save up for it. Even just putting your change into a jar will net you $30 in no time! I know that there are people right here on this message board that would love to pay for memberships for those that can't afford it. I've seen it posted in threads.
Wired is a good thing, and I'm really excited about it!

I agree wholeheartedly!!!!!!!!! I am so glad to be Wired, so appreciative of Third Day, and I am so aware that the benefits of this club are worth way more than $30. Don't want the guys feeling bad about asking for $30!! Think of all they have already GIVEN us!!

I am right there with you Corrine! I thank the guys from the bottom of my heart for this fan club! I am blessed to be able to have joined. I'm sure there are some people that would love to be able to join Wired that can't at the moment. Some of them are not able to travel from show to show to show & would love to have the opportunity to go to one or two shows & have a chance to meet the guys.
