WASHINGTON - U.S.-led forces have killed one of the most important leaders of al-Qaida in Iraq, a Tunisian believed connected to the kidnapping and killings last summer of American soldiers, a top commander said Friday.
Mission Accomplished! (again)

My point is, this is at least the third time they've said that they've killed the #2 man. Good job on their objective, this guy certainly needed to be caught. But how many #2's does Osama have?

It just goes to show that the #2 position is most likely an operational one- a "high visibility, low life expectancy" hands on position. It also means that their ground level organization is probably strained.

It makes since, that when one Lt. is caught or killed, that another one takes his place, does it not?
It is like what happens when we do eventually catch OBL, there will be a new one, to take his place.

Yeah...when a guy dies, another guy gets promoted...but the fact that we're killing their guys and crippling their operations means our troops deserve a huge pat on the back for a job well done getting this guy.

I agree 100%- what I was trying to say and what you are saying is that the good guys in white hats (that would be us) are whacking the bad guys in black hats (that would be the terrorists.)

I confess, perhaps my hostility towards the press and these announcements are somewhat irrational. But it really doesn't matter who they kill. The enemy we're supposedly fighting is vague. It's not like they're mutants or some hive from which if we kill the main guy, then everyone else will be cured.
Nevertheless, who ever is taking this guy's place shouldn't really consider it as a promotion :P
