Let's see, I have:
1. new students arriving tomorrow (have to put on my "mean" face)
2. not yet received my copy of CV2 since placing my order on 2 Aug 07
3. been waiting (patiently) to see the final results of the BAFF contest
4. no idea what "Wired" really is yet!

So, it should go without saying that I'm pretty tied up inside right now!

A question - does this mean there will be no meet and greet opportunities for anyone who isn't a paid member? Does this also mean that there will be no preorder of tickets unless your a paid member as currently happens?

I totally loved the meet and greet in Sydney, there is no point me being a paid member as 3D visit us so infrequently, but I still would like to think that we may get to personally see the guys next time they come down under.

Hmmm....I got a feeling Rob, that now you know the "for what" the fee covers and how much, I'll see you there. I just don't see it without you in it. :) But that is just me.

Wired doesn't really have much to directly with the boards and how they are run, but offering great things to those who love Third Day and love it here.

The Unknown Gomer

I DID have one question about it that I thought about yesterday, the WIRED page says that it's not taking anything away from the way this site is run, so you don't lose anything you currently have if you don't join WIRED, you just don't get the EXTRA stuff.

What about ticket presales? They're currently made available - usually - via Music Today, for no additional fee. If they're making presales available as part of the WIRED package, that's going to be something no longer available here, isn't it? Or are they going to offer double presales, first crack for the WIRED folks, and then a second crack for the 3D newsletter people?

Not that it matters to ME, I'm all in for the whole WIRED thing, but for those folks who aren't going to sign up for it, that's probably something that'll need to be addressed at some point.

I really like this deal! Can't wait to see the music database. :)

The band actually did have a paid fan club, though, way back in the day, long before the Gomers existed. I think it was like $20 or $25 per year. I remember you got a t-shirt and some other stuff. Like I said, that was before the Gomers. I think one of the wives actually ran it. But, I'm not positive about that part.

It's definitely a very good deal though, so if you're a hardcore fan I suggest you signup. I do have to add in my 2 cents... which is about all I have, & I'm probably not the only Gomer that may not be able to afford to get WIRED. I'm a bit disappointed because IMHO it'll just widen the gap between the Gomers that are already affording & attending as many shows as possible & others that have a hard time paying ticket prices & getting to even 1 or 2 shows now & then. I do realize there are perks when paying to get WIRED, but also am wondering (Karen asked earlier) if our present ticket pre-sales, as regular old Joe Gomers, will be taken away. ???

As I understand it, it's an addition not a subtraction.

From the WIRED page of ThirdDay.com

*The WIRED fan club is a new service for Third Day fans. This service is an addition to ThirdDay.com not a subtraction. Third Day will continue to provide the same high level of information and content at www.ThirdDay.com including CCM's most active message boards and band blog. In addition, new developments for Gomertopia are coming soon which will allow Third Day fans to connect to each other in more substantial ways....Wired is scheduled to launch October 1st.

Third Day has always been appreciative of their fans.

This is just another way for them to Thank us for our support.

The price is right in line with many other paid fan clubs.

I paid $30.00 for Mazie to be in the Hannah Montana fan club and the ONLY thing they offer is pre-sale tickets.
No T-shirt, No Meet and Greet pass, nothing else.

Compared to that, this is a GREAT DEAL!!

I am very excited and can't wait to join!!!!

Okay, great! Somehow I missed reading that. In fact I don't even know where that "page" is.

I know that we get a lot for the simple feat of being Gomers. I know that there a lot of "clubs" you have to pay for & what you get for your money is minimal. I'm not saying WIRED isn't a good deal at all. What I'm saying is there may be many Gomers that would love to be able to get WIRED but can't afford to and then feel like those that are better off financially will be rewarded with better 3D opportunities simply because they CAN afford it.

hmmm... looking and still can't find that info...

When I click on the "Are you plugged in?" box, I don't get any of that info.

Ya know - I kind of have to agree with you on this BJ. I have only been a Gomer since last year, but there are ALOT of you Gomers that have been faithful followers of Third Day for years! (like you BJ, have been on the boards since 2002!)

IMHO that Third Day might consider "grandfathering" the old faithful Gomers for free, even if only for the first year.

Let's look at it another way.

The T-shirt alone is worth $25. Almost all of the Third Day shirts sell for $25 at a show. How many of you own one?

We all do, okay most everyone owns at least one.

So basically you are paying $5 for Meet and Greet passes, pre-sale tickets, merch discounts, music database, plus anything else they might decide to throw in.

A good deal in my book any day of the week.

Many of us spend $30 in the course of week or even a month with very little thought.

Dinner and a movie?
A nice meal?
night out with friends?
2 CDs?
Pair of shoes?

My point is if it is something we really want, we make the sacrifice for it.

Gapeach3DFan
09-06-2007, 01:45 PM
You are right, Jamie. I don't think $30 is a bad deal.

I understand Emily's point since she is not in the US. But, like you said, just the shirt is worth $25. And, you get the other stuff. She would be able to take advantage of the music database and merch discounts. And, she would get the other perks when the guys do travel that way. :)

I'm not entirely sure Wired will be offered to those outside the US, especially since it's basically for concerts and y'all only get them every two years. I've asked that and if we can have a discount for international users. I'll let you know what I hear.

Corrine
09-09-2007, 06:55 PM
When I heard what they were going to offer, I thought it would be $60 for the year! But this is only half of that. $30 is not that much at all, if you break it down. If you start saving, even now with only three weeks left to go, it is only $1.43 a day, or $10 a week. I know that not everyone can afford this, but it will enable Third Day to offer us more.

As far as the pre-sale tickets go, I'm not sure if we'll still offer them without Wired. But I do know that the pre-sale tickets we will get from Wired will be much better seats than the pre-sale tickets we are getting now.

My point is if it is something we really want, we make the sacrifice for it.And that just kind of reiterated Barb's thought. A lot of people CAN and DO spend $30 a week or a month for all those things you listed, and not a thing wrong with that (I personally am a sucker for computer games ;) ) but I think Barb may have been referring to the people whose $30 isn't going for stuff like that, that theirs is going for somewhat more necessary things, like dinner on the table, clothes for their kids, gas for their car so they can get to work, etc. So those folk may really want it too, but are truly unable to make the "sacrifice" to do so. Those are the folks who are going to be left out by this switchover to a paid service.

Still sounds like a great service, for those who CAN afford it though. $30/year works out to be only $2.50/month.

(Now THAT would be a cool option, the ability to bill it to a credit card at $2.50 a month. That's what they do on the Geocache thing I belong to, I pay $3/month all year, for access to extra maps and log features that the average joe doesn't get or maybe need. So it's apparently doable. That might be something to think about, to help out the people who may not be able to do one lump sum of $30, but could do $2.50 each month. :) Just a thought.)

...As far as the pre-sale tickets go, I'm not sure if we'll still offer them without Wired. But I do know that the pre-sale tickets we will get from Wired will be much better seats than the pre-sale tickets we are getting now.Yay! I've lost track of the number of times that I've ordered from the presale, and then checked availability of seating for the later general sale, found BETTER seats from the general sale, bought those too, and ended up trying to find homes for the presale tickets. It would definitely be a plus if the Wired presale actually gave us better seats than the general sale tickets afterwards. :)

Alas, that means that the non-buyers actually will be losing out on stuff that they're now getting as Average Joe Newsletter Gomers, even if it's just that. And that's a pretty big "just".

Still waiting until the "official" October word on everything though, before passing any final judgement on all the plusses and the minuses, since right now it sounds like some of the stuff is still up in the air.

I am probably going to sound like an arrogant jerk here; but if that is the case, those people shouldn't be worried about concert tickets and fan clubs (paid or unpaid) anyway. I didn't see 3D live until the Offerings tour because I simply could not afford to; even though they were only 30 minutes away. Until 2006, we did not travel to shows because we could not afford to. That has changed and we take advantage of the opportunities. I do not begrudge those who did get to see 3D before I did, nor those who now fly to Europe to see the band. Everyone has their own limits and priorities. We live within those.

The Unknown Gomer
09-10-2007, 10:15 AM
Actually, that's a very NON "arrogant jerk"ly way to put it. :) You're absolutely correct, if you're having to choose between gas or utility bill money and concert tickets, most definitely, it would be irresponsible to pick the concert tickets. (Although given how high credit card debt is in the US, a LOT of people don't exactly agree with that statement, I guess.)

But there are definitely folks who fall between the two extremes, who aren't living paycheck to paycheck, but still don't have $30 in luxuries to give up. Those are the ones who are going to lose out on this, and hopefully if they DON'T sign up, they're not made to feel less Gomerific than the ones who do.

I still like the idea of that $2.50/month thing, if there was any way for that to be an option. That's kind of a nice deal with the Geocache people. And most folks could probably spare $2.50/month vs one lump sum of $30 all at one time.
