Our soon to be 15-year old thinks his dad(me :P), nonno, and zio, are going to buy him a Fender Rumble 100 for his bass guitar. This will be his first real amp as he is using one of those used 'tiny' things.

$330 for the 12" model seems to be specifically for bass

$350 for the two 10" model

Stick with the 12"?

Another brand and model?

We have been shopping at a local Guitar Center, as you can tell from the links above, http://www.guitarcenter.com

His birthday is on Labor Day September 3rd.

Thanks

Doriano

D.,

Being the guitar nut that I am....I'm a big supporter of Fender products (although there is some of their guitars like their Squier electric guitars) that I avoid like the plague...but as I mentioned in the Loon thread, I don't think you could go wrong with the Behringer amp, either. As with anything out there, there are good and bad products.

I know I prolly wasn't much help with this post.....

His first used bass was a Squier! Thanks a lot! :P

He went with the Fender two 10" speaker model.

Well the Fender had a hiss, which did not surprise me, but it also had a knob that broke, so we exchanged it for an Ampeg.

Now he doesn't like the hiss in the Ampeg and says the 100 watts isn't as powerful as the Fender.

I'm going to get an opinion from someone at church.

Any amp advice would be appreciated.

The hiss could be coming from the pick-ups in the bass. If you're behind the amp while playing, it can create some extra noise. Tell him to give the Ampeg time. Amps are a lot like a new car, you have to get used to driving it. 100 watts is enough to play most clubs especially if there is an output jack to run into a pa. I believe it's standard on most Ampegs

There are a ton of good bass amps out there, you just have to search for the sound that you like.

Line 6 has a nice one for around $500 that comes with some cool effects and plenty of power. Then there's Hartke amps which in my opinion are the best combo amps out there.

If he still hates the Ampeg, feel free to box it up and send it to me :D

Good Luck

LOL - send it to you. :D

The pickups were mentioned.

Line 6 look sharp but cost a little more.

He went back to the Fender and is also enjoying running his MP3 through there.

Should have stuck with the Ampeg, IMO! Much better amps than Fender ever thought about making.

i've played on an Ampeg 12 inch (60 watt) amp for 5 or 6 years and I wouldn't trade it for the world :)

I think it was $350 back when I bought it --- it was well worth it.

I think ampeg does a fine job on their 1x12 amps.

Awesome!! Hope he enjoys his new amp. I've owned a few amps and sometimes when you turn the volume or treble up, they hiss.

Well personally I have had 2 rumble 15's and I have to say they have been junk. Now thats not to say that they all are maybe the 15's are. I hope this will help in some way. I like GK stuff personally and they make some good lower priced stuff in my opinion. Good Luck!
