So I was at this bookstore yesterday, and was parusing through the Christian section, and I came across this book.
http://www.amazon.com/Tempting-Faith-Inside-Political-Seduction/dp/0743287126
This book was written by David Kuo. David served as the deputy director for the White House Faith Based initiatives for the Bush Administration.
The gist of the book talks about how in 2000 then gov. Bush promised 8 billion dollars in money to faith based charities, and actually delivered about 30 million.
The book chronicles how Senior White House staffers used this program to convince evangelicals to go punch a vote for George W Bush.
It's really interesting, but the conclusion is what I like most. Basicly Kuo comes to the conclusion that politics cannot save this nation. The only thing that can save this nation is a return to faith...
Has anyone read thorugh this entire book?

I was chatting with a lady from Idaho the other day, it sounds like the book she may have been reading... there is concern that politicians are canvassing the mega churches to get the votes - I think that stinks in a very big way...
She was obviously not a follower of Jesus, but her concern too was that the churches seemed to control how their people voted and people weren't thinking for themselves much - guess that's a normal thing for people to think about us though eh?
Another friend here, said many of her friends in the states are now leaving churches because they believe they are becoming too political and that church shouldn't be like that.
Wonder what you all think?

Well, once again when it comes to anything re: the States, things aren't as neat and tidy as you hear. America, like Americans, can mean a bazillion different things. Everything depends on when and where and even what part of a city you're from. You can go to 10 areas in Los Angeles alone and get 10 or more different opinions on your post. I have never heard politics from the pulpit or even preached behind the scenes. I have heard healthy, and sometimes not so healthy, dialogue in small group settings, but never heard you must vote a certain way preached. You can go to a Christian church here where most everyone votes Democrat then go to one down the street where everyone votes Republican. I happen to go to a church where it's pretty mixed up. And this is only L.A., nevermind different parts of the country. As far as politicians targeting mega-churches is concerned, I haven't heard about it, but that doesn't surprise me. There are large groups of voters there, why not? But this is only my experience, which can be totally different than my next door neighbor's. I haven't heard of a mass exodus from churches because of politics, but I have heard of people nationwide resisting the idea that Jesus is a white far-right Republican.
One thing I have learned is that people don't think for themselves much, whether they're American, Christian, or not.:D
