Ok - I'm bringing the "weight" thing back to the boards!

I quit smoking and have gained weight...ugh

So - I am on a personal challenge to work out and lose some weight before Labor Day weekend (that's the 1st weekend of September for all you non-USAers!).

Here is what I am doing....

I love food and refuse to "diet" - so in lieu of giving up certain foods, I am just going to cut my portions in half. Yep - half! Except for my vitamins...I need those (more on that later). At what I typically eat in a day I figure that'll put my calorie count (what is that????) down to a very healthy level.

Now - I am only doing the half portions for my normal meals...the big three. But in between I am going to have a snack (2 per day) of fresh veges and fruit. Also - did I mention my vitamins? Well....mine are chocolate flavored. I use Viactiv for my vitamin and calcium supp. SO...yep - I still get my chocolate fix every morning with my coffee. And......Speaking of coffee - I am not cutting that in half either....well...because I really like my coffee in the morning.

So - that's the "diet" portion.

Now for the exercise.....

Yes - I am actually going to dust off my sneakers and put them on. I have finally come to the conclusion that I can no longer justify to myself that cleaning the house, doing laundry, and making dinner in my flip-flops is actually exercise. At least not the amount I am gonna need to shape up these thighs!

So - I plan on running each morning. How far you ask? Until it really hurts. I am guessing the first day will be approx 1/8 of a mile....lol.... Then once it hurts - I am gonna push for alittle more. Then I am gonna walk until the pain goes away. I am going to do this to myself every morning until Labor Day or until I am taken away on a stretcher - whichever comes first! :D

That's my plan. I don't have a specific amount of weight I want to lose - or a size that I want to fit into. I am gonna weigh myself tomorrow morning then wait until Labor Day weekend and weigh myself again. I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised!

Anyone with me??? I am gonna need some serious support - cause I am not real good in the will power department.

Hoping for some friends to join in....

Ready............Set..... .......GO!!!!!!

I'm with you!

It's funny that you posted this because I've just set my sights on the same thing. I too, realize that I can't just cut down on what I eat to lose a few pounds, so I've taken up jogging and small weight lifting to do it.

I need to change my eating habits because I've gotten into the rut of fast and easy foods which are usually really bad for me. So - before totally changing the way I eat, I was going to do "The Master Cleanser" a body cleanse, then start with healthy eating. I tried this just this week - and failed in the first day. LOL! But my Mom is going to do it with me this time starting next week, so hopefully this will be easier.

EDIT: oops wrong myspace link!

I blogged about it on my mySpace page here: http://myspace.com/_mindy_here

So count me in! :D

Awesome!

One of my big issues is eating snacks while I watch TV after I get the kids to bed. My hubby is gonna help me with that.

Oh - and I forgot to mention!!! I am gonna drink lots of water too!!

I will let you know how my "run" goes tomorrow!

Good luck - glad to have someone with me!

I'm telling you - drinking lots of water does WONDERS for me - it really helps me to feel better and in control.

I'm gonna post and ask you how your run is so you better do it!! :D:D Now you are accountable since you told us all what you're doing.

He HEE!!

Don't kill yourself though - you don't want to get burned out or anything. I was really mad at myself when I ran for the first time in awhile, because I barely made it a half mile. And I was shocked at myself that I was so out of shape. But I felt SO much better afterward, and you will too!

Good luck to you too!

Something that helps me, is when I keep a journal of what I eat and how I exercise. I have and old one here that I used last year when my doc was monitoring me for my thyroid disease, which is why I have the "feelings/symptoms/notes" column, but you don't have to use that if you don't want to. Feel free to use it if you think it will be helpful.

Thanks for the tips.

Time to go clean up and start dinner.

Ok - I got up this morning and God blessed me. You know what happened? My husband went running with me! This is huge - I mean huge! Praise the Lord!

So - we ran about 3/5 of a mile. That's down to then end of the driveway and back.

And I feel awesome!

Now it's time for my chocolate and coffee!

yay!! That's awesome! You're off to a great start. That was so nice of your husband to run with you. And you just ran down your driveway? I take it that you don't walk to get your mail then, huh?

I'll let you know about my exercise later after I do it. :D

Making this quick - we just got home from watching Harry Potter (which was ok) so it's late.

I ran maybe 3/4 mile. My favorite time to run is at night, so I ran just after dark then raced to get into the shower to immediately go to the movies after getting dressed from the shower. I'll have to clock my time tomorrow and edit this post to say exactly how far I went.

Tomorrow I start my cleanse - please pray for me because it is going to be really hard.

Are you eating right Andi????

:D:D:D

Andi

Awesome Mindy!

I am not sure what a cleanse is???? But will pray regardless. How long does it last?

I ate my 1/2 portions yesterday and snacked on a tomato (fresh from my neighbor's garden) and some peaches. Yummie :P

Did not run this morning though - we had some very serious thunderstorms that started around 6 am and lasted until around 10:30 am. Now it's too hot. Will probably run later before dinner....we'll see. I prefer to do it first thing in the morning.

Keep me posted on you cleanse (and let me know what it is) - and hope it goes well for you!!

Off to do some super duper fun things...like laundry

Hi there Andi, how are you doing with eating and moving?

Anyone else going to join in on this??

My cleanse is called The Master Cleanser. It's purpose is to purge all built up toxins from your body by fasting from solid foods for a minimum of 10 to 40 days. The idea is to get rid of the toxin build up in the body, and start fresh with a good diet.

I've posted some minimal info on a blog here on my mySpace page:
The Master Cleanse blog info (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog .view&friendID=97134356&blogID=288239611)

You can also read more on this here:
The Master Cleanser Booklet (http://healthandlight.com/TheMasterCleanse.pdf)

I haven't exercised the last couple of days, but I did reduce what I ate. I actually started my cleanse today, along with my Mom. The last couple of days I've been kinda tired, which hasn't helped me want to get moving.

So, how did you ladies go with losing weight? That Master Cleanser diet is very stringent - I'd be sick on it, although I have been on vegetable detox diets.

I'm joining this thread. I finally said enough is enough. I've bought some protein powder in sachets and am having lots of water, vegetables, and walking. Two days, and I'm feeling better already. :)

Andi

don't even ask!!! lol My mid-summer weight loss challenge became a mid-summer ugh my clothes are too tight!!!

I jogged for 2 weeks almost every day. Then my neck really started hurting. I went to and Orthopedic surgeon and was told that I need physical therapy...why you ask??? because of my posture! can you believe that? lol Anyway - I am now done with PT but while I was there my therapist told me that jogging/running and my bones did not agree and suggested walking. Well - now school has started and I am in "crazy schedule" land again until spring.

I actually gained weight this summer. :( :o :o

So now - I am with ya on it again Sandra. Let's do it!

sandie
09-08-2007, 05:47 PM
Yes, let's do it. :)

I've cut down on the food and feel better already. I'll take vegies or salad to work with me from tomorrow onwards. I walk quickly to and from the train, and will do more exercise. Will have low calorie soft drinks instead of coffee, most of the time anyway, when I'm socialising. I'd like to drop clothing sizes and then buy clothes for Summer. I've lost 1kg already, which is 2.2lbs. :D

Would anyone else care to join us?

I felt my Cry Out To Jesus shirt becoming a little restricting. I cant have that!!!
I stopped going to the gym because just the thought of it made me start having anxiety attacks. I was loving it and went for 18 months and lost 6 inches around my waist and 4 around my butt and thighs. But I wasnt loosing weight and it was depressing me.
Boy oh boy do I feel the difference now! Its terrible:(
What I was paying for the Gym, I now pay for my guitar lessons, and Im not giving them up to go back to the gym. I plan on trying to go walking 3 times a week. I will have to do this after I take Elijah to school...with summer basically already here in sunny tropical Nth Queensland, I am not sure how that will work. I have my big gym ball and I love doing weights and Pilate's with that. I am not permitted to do aerobics due to a pinched nerve.

The past two weeks I have made adjustments in my eating (Weight Watchers) and have cut down on Coke. I hope to get off the stuff completely. I made 48 hours without one the other day. LOL. I dont drink, smoke, drink coffee or anything and Coke is my vice. But I am fighting it...with God's help.

I saw myself on a DVD that was filmed 4 weeks ago and I am bigger than I thought I am. That really hit home.

I have to stop making excuses.

I have to stop thinking that this is too much for me to do. I have conquered harder things than this.

Plus I admit that for a long while I let myself be different so I wouldnt look anything like my mother who is a fitness fanatic...and she was always trying to mould me into an image of a 'sexy' body shape. So I have repented of that and aim to make positive steps towards a healthier me.

Do you know what made me decide I can do something about my weight? Dont laugh...ok...:o ;)
Well Mark Lee wrote in his blog a little way back about the things he and the guys were doing before the show. It was like 100F and they were in a town that they hadnt played before. And Mark mentions, Tai went for a jog.
Yep...thats what hit....
Tai went for a jog. He kept his fitness routine despite that it was mega hot and he was in a town that he didnt know...so that puts all my excuses to shame about not having anywhere to go walking...
I say its too hot...I am going to get sweaty regardless, so I just get sweaty a little faster, so what.

So what excuses do I have? None really. Caleb can go for a ride in his pram with me....its all good.

Now if I could just get myself to do it.... :o
;)

I'm with ya'll! Let's change it to our Winter in US/Summer in Aus weight loss challenge. I gained weight over the summer too! I quit smoking and spent 5 weeks in a cast! So I've gained back 10 of the 50 lbs I've lost so far. I HATE losing the same weight over and over again!

LET'S DO IT!

Count me in - I didn't do good the first go-round. I was walking eves until football practice started, so now those (I drive to nearby town so stay onsite during practice and work on my laptop until practice is over) and 4 games a week take up those free nights. I have Saturday nights and Sundays off.

This is one area of my life I never really pray about - the strength to keep myself healthy. I need to start doing this. I've never really thought about that til now ... but it's so important.

So anyways - I'm in!

Hi All,

I am kind of new to the boards so I'll introduce myself to you all. My name is Donna and I am from Central Jersey. I have battled with my weight most of my life. When I was approaching 40, I thought I was going to die (not literally, but heck, 40 was like reaching my parents' age! ) so I started exercising and looking after myself a little better. It's been 6 years now and I've been able to keep my weight under control fairly well and have run 3 marathons. I am training for the Marine Corp Marathon right now and will be running that on 10/28!

I've found the key to be setting attainable goals. Take baby steps and feed (oops...no pun intended!) off the success of reaching the goals. I'd be happy to pass along some tips on running in a way that will allow you to progress and stick with it and not run your body into the ground! :)

Good luck and keep the faith!

Donna

Bwwwwhhhaaaaa! That's funny Andi! I like my food faaaaar too much. I could do with losing a bit but I just haven't got the will power at the moment. I know I would have to eat sensibly for the rest of my life to be thin - that's just too depressing. Anyway, as I say to Mark "You're getting extra value for your money ;)"

Donna.... we'll take all the advice you can give us! When you say attainable goals, are you talking like 10 lbs.... 1 clothing size.... where do we start? Also... any eating tips, will power tips?

Exactly....start small...10 pounds, 1 clothing size....even 5 pounds is a great start! You will be very pleased with yourself when you reach that goal and the progress will keep propelling you forward.

The hardest part of breaking the cycle of poor eating for me was changing bad habits. Get rid of those foods that trigger binge eating, for me -- chocolate! Stock up on lots of yummy veggies and fruits. Baby carrots are a life-savers as far as I am concerned. I love to eat too so I definitely need something to snack on. I also like Kashi bars and you can even get a free sample of one sent to you if you go to Kashi's website.

As far as will power tips, that has to come from within, but it never hurts to call on God's strength and power to help you through a tough moment!

If you decide to try running again, I suggest starting by mixing up walking with running. For example, do a 20 minute session of walking for 5 minutes, running 2, repeating to the end. Each week you can increase your run time -- walk 4/run 3, walk 3/run 4, etc. You can also increase the length of your overall run/walk time from 20 to 30 to 40 as time goes on. I do not recommend running every day or you will wind up injured and/or burnt out! For me, 3 days a week is all I run...but my runs have progressed to where I run between 6-20 miles per run. I started out slowly as I mentioned above. Believe me, if I can do it, so can you!! We are all human but with HIM, anything is possible!!

I look forward to hearing of your progress!

God bless,

Donna

I think my hardest part is at work. There's nothing I can do to stop OTHER people from bringing in cookies, bagels, etc, etc. I just need to be stronger!

WHERE DID EVERYBODY GO???? DID YA'LL GIVE UP???

I have to share with you that I was REALLY struggling with eating. I had done so good for so long but then I found I couldn't get it under control again. Since I was at my heaviest (about 4.5 years ago) I've lost 50 lbs. So I really do know what it takes to get it done!

Anyways..... let me digress a bit. Back in March I started having throat problems (a whole different story) and I was a smoker. I prayed (cried out to Jesus!) to God.... "I don't have the strength to quit God, I've tried and I can't do it. I'm going to need YOU to do this for me!" I never smoked again, no cravings, no headaches and no withdrawals.

So..... last week I decided that I had been struggling with my weight/eating the same as I had with my smoking. Once again I prayed (cried out to Jesus), "God I need you to do this for me. I'm not strong enough on my own". Guess what? I have eaten healthy ever since and it's no longer a struggle.

God is there for us all the time. When will I learn to just step out of the way and let God handle everything???

Hope to see some more posts and successes here soon. My weigh in day is Friday so I'll post what I lost for this week then.

Hi Sandy and all,

I didn't abandon you....my son's been having some health issues. My free time and energy have been spent elsewhere. His tests all came out okay and his abdominal pains have lessened but they are still there from time to time. Please keep him in your prayers.

Thank you so much for sharing your "cry out to Jesus" stories! You are right, He is there for us. We need to remember to lean on Him and ask for His help when we are weak. I am so glad you've stopped smoking and that you've been eating healthy. How did your weigh in go today? I am sure that with you renewed strength, you will get down to a healthy weight. Taking off those previous 50 pounds is incredible! :)

I'm been continuing with my marathon training. I'm running the Jersey Shore Half Marathon on Sunday which should be enjoyable. I have two 20-milers under my belt and I am feeling good overall. When I was running my last 20 miler, the last 2 miles were tough. The woman I was running with was struggling badly. She is also Christian so I started singing, "This is the Body, this is the Blood...broken and poured out...." And then "I believe in a faith that's strong..." Well, you get the idea. My pain was taken away and before we knew it, we were done. Praise the Lord!

I do a lot of praying and meditating when I run. There's a great book called Running The Spiritual Path about prayer during runs by Roger Joslin. I also listen to Third Day a lot when I run. A few runs ago, my ipod was shuffling songs from Chronology 2. Blessed Assurance and I Can Feel It came on back to back. I was engulfed by the Holy Spirit and felt like I was running with wings! God is good, so good!!

It's good to be back on the boards and to hear from you. Let me know how your weigh in went.

And yes, men are welcome too!

Yeah! Lol! I've been posting at the last thread still! :) Here I am. I am pumped and ready! I just had my wisdom teeth out Monday and so I can't eat much which helps. I want to lose a few pounds, but I really want to cheer everyone else on. Something I do, is use flavor packets in my water or freese the water and crunch on the ice. I have a hard time drinking just plain water. Speaking of which, I have one in the freezer now! Good luck guys! Together we can do this!;)

I have been following the Thread, but I keep forgetting to post.:o

Thanks Donna for your advice. 50 pounds! wow!
Sometimes I think that there is no way I can do it, ya know?
I am real careful about what I eat etc. But its gotta be the lack of exercise thats letting me down. Maintaining is super easy for me. But to step it up so my body is loosing the weight, now that is hard work.
Most of my problem is getting my mindset right and taking time out for me and knowing that it is ok to do this.
My Assistant Pastor gave me a gift on Sunday and it has so touched my heart. It is a book called "Look Great, Feel Great" by Joyce Meyer. I had seen it before but was cynical. When I opened it up I was like
It was though she was writing about my life!
I havent had a chance to get too far in, but it sure is a lot better than what I initially thought it would be.

The humidity is killing me this week. Thank God for Cranberry tablets to help with the kidneys;) Yeah! Thats how HOT it is....whatever water is being consumed is just being sweated out. lol
I actually moved furniture yesterday, by myself. John got home and did a double take. He was like::eek: HOW did you do that..... :D
I moved desks and huge book cases, and their contents from one end of the house to the other. lol. These things are bigger than lil ol me. Mega Mummy! lol

I'm proud of all of you for getting started on the right track! It's hard! But every week we put this off is about 2 pounds we could have lost! So let's do it and keep it up! We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!

I started on Jenny Craig (http://www.jennycraig.com)about a month ago. I've lost 8 pounds so far. I'm blogging about it on my MySpace here: www.MySpace.com/MamaGomer Please come read me! I feel like I'm talking to myself over there. :D You'll have to hit "View All Blog Entries" to start at the beginning. I think there are six entries so far.

Thanks for keeping our thread alive, Corrine! Congrats on your weight loss! Nice work! I'll check out your myspace over the weekend. I joined myspace but didn't put anything on my page(s)....can't quite figure out what to do with it!

I just read this thread but I can definately relate. I myself also quit smoking in June and gained weight too. The final straw was the extra five pounds I put on in Disney this September. I came home a few days after Night of Joy and started to get serious myself about losing a few pounds. I have been eating a small healthy breakfast, a healthy lunch, and I cut out most snacks. I reach for fruit if I absolutely feel like I need a snack. I have cut out soda too. The only meal I have not adjusted is dinner. I eat whatever I want, but no second helpings. I have also stopped walking my dogs on my bicycle (as it wasnt really exercise for me) and now walk and or jog with them. I exercise them seperately so I have to go around the neighborhood twice. Anyway its been a little over 1 month and I have lost 10 pounds. So count me in on your thread. Good luck and keep up the good work everyone!

That is GREAT! I too walk my dog at least 4 times a week (preferrably 5). I must admit I ate a bunch of crap today! My office is the WORST about having bad foods. I didn't touch it all week and then just went crazy today.

Oh well..... there's always tomorrow! ;)

I cheated yesterday too. We had an offsite Staff development meeting at a Mexican restaurant. I chowed down on too many chips, salsa, and fajitas. Ahh well. I am being good today.

I think one of the biggest myths of weight loss is tied directly to sin: you all know that God forgives sin, and we need to forgive a bit of overindulgence. Unlike sin, however, we need to work off those "unplanned" calories. Being good is good, but when you are "bad," you need to work it off- maybe a 2 mile walk is "good?"

and in case anyone wants to slam me for that last comment, this month has not been too good for me- over three weeks, I'm up ~.4lbs. I worked out a bit this week, but have been majorly slacking due in part to a cold over the past month- it is time to get back on track.

no slammin... you're right! This summer was just horrible for me! I had a sprained ankle/broken foot and was in a cast for 7 weeks. Then I had throat surgery. Add this to having quit smoking and I'm up 10 lbs this year! For some reason I'm having a really hard time getting back on track and in control.

So how's everyone doing this week? I have been walking everyday, and mostly sticking to my diet. I have lost 2 more lbs. One thing I do wish though is that I would not constantly feel hungry. Fruits, veggies, and lean protein do not fill me up like a greasy cheeseburger LOL.

I feel your pain. At the beginning of summer I had gotten down to 165 which was within 5 pounds of my original goal, but then I injured my back. I have a herniated disc which is compressing the nerve to my left leg so I've had to cut my physical activity way down. As a matter of fact I could barely walk for a while and by August I had gained back about 15 pounds of what I had lost. Since then I have had some PT and am getting around a lot better but vigorous exercise is pretty much out of the question and I'm pretty much just managing not to gain any more weight, but I'm sure you know that's really tough when you have to rely on diet alone.

On the possitive side if you've only gained 10 lbs. after quitting smoking you're doing pretty good. I think I gained about 20-25 when I quit.

;)
Joan, don't look at the scales - if you're going to the gym and losing inches, you'll also be gaining muscle which actually weighs more than fat! Muscle also helps boost your metabolism rate.

A couple of tips the dietitian gave me recently -
if you are cooking minced beef dishes like spaghetti bolgnaise, add 2 tablespoons of red lentils at the beginning of cooking, as long as you cook for 20 minutes, they will dissolve adding precious fibre making you feel fuller and thus eat less. It works really well, I do it all the time and you cannot taste them honestly. Only downside, they tend to make me a bit gassy!
Walk 3 times a week, often people think they need to walk everyday which for many of us is unacheivable, but if you commit to 3 times a week you are more likely to do it.
If you are like me and feel so hungry when you get home from work that you eat anything and everything - make a lowfat milkshake, use a low joule topping, a small scoop of low fat icecream and skim milk - 1 cup, this will make you feel full and prevent bad snacking.
Alternatively, make sure you have something at about 3.30-4.00pm like a vegetable juice, in Aus you can buy V8 fruit and veg juice poppers which are great, no added sugar and some fibre and actually tasty - this drink will boost your sugar levels in your blood back up.
Eat more often in smaller quantities.

Did you know that an adult woman gains an average of 1kg (think this is about 1/2pound) per year of their life. So in 10 years time, if you don't watch your weight, you may well be 10 kg heavier!

I haven't been on the board in ages. I was away for the marathon and then got a sinus infection -- energy was zapped. I am not really sure where to post this but I thought this was as good of a spot as any since I talked about the marathon here previously.

I won't bore you with all the details of the marathon -- marathoners are known to ramble on about their races! lol But I want to share with you something that happened to me along the course.

Between miles 16 to about 20, the course was out on this strip of land that ran along the water. It looked like a walking/bike path. Very pretty but there were few fans and little crowd support out here. Ipods are no-no's in these big events so I didn't wear mine. I was starting to struggle a bit, my mind was starting to wonder if 26.2 miles would ever come to an end.

As I am in the 17th mile, my ears started to zone in on a very familiar voice. In the distance, there was a van parked along the side of the road blasting music and I could hear Mac singing:
"A song of Your faithfulness
A song of Your grace
And of Your loving kindness
To the glory of Your name...."
I could not believe what I was hearing!!

I was singing out loud, "Holy, holy, holy are you Lord Almighty!" I got some looks (hehehe) but I can't tell you how it pulled me over that rough spot.

Of all bands, of all places.... God put these people right there, playing Third Day! I have no idea who they were but I thanked the cheering couple as I passed them. I hope they know how what they did lifted me up and carried me through the rest of the miles.

I finished the marathon nearly 11 minutes ahead of my goal time. The glory is all God's! God is good...so good!

I quit my diet last March. From the previous December until March, I had lost somewhere around 40 pounds. I had been exercising everyday (walking) since the beginning of the diet, and when I got to 40 pounds, I just quit dieting. I felt I would be able to maintain my weight by the way I was eating. Since then I've lost an additional 10 pounds or so.

When I started my new job in September, the first thing I did was take advantage of the company discount at the amazing Gold's Gym that is a 2 1/2 minute drive from the office. I don't know how much it costs for a regular membership, but I only have to pay $25 a month, and the money comes directly out of my check...meaning I don't have to keep up with giving them a check every month. I've been going to the gym during my lunch break almost every weekday for the past two months.

Today is Thursday, and I've been everyday this week. I did cardio on Monday and Wednesday, and weights on Tuesday and today. I don't think I'm losing any additional weight, but I can DEFINITELY tell that I'm trimming and firming my body. On Monday I did 43 minutes on the elliptical. The only reason I didn't do longer is because I had to go back to work. I keep my average speed at 130 revolutions per minute (which is fast). I'm skipping the gym tomorrow. I'm going with a bunch of people from the office to have sushi for lunch at a Japanese restaurant not far from work.

I'm 35, and I've been the fat kid for most of my life. This is no longer the case. I'm in the best shape that I've ever been in, and I work in a job that is absolutely amazing to have gym membership as a benefit (and it's a REALLY cool job too!). God Is Amazing for preparing me for this job.

And the coolest part is what it is that is making me motivated to go to the gym and get in shape. I volunteer for Ichthus Music Festival every year, and if you're not in shape during a music festival, it will kill you, especially if your job is to book/manage a stage. Believe me, I was fat the first year I worked Ichthus, and it wasn't a lot of fun. I was mostly in shape for Ichthus 2007, and I had the time of my life. I can't wait to see how my body will react to Ichthus 2008.

Well, it is interesting how you can get a sense of where you are weight-wise. I weighed in Monday morning (as is my habit) and then decided to make an intermediate weigh-in on Thursday- I had lost a poundand was not horribly surprised! I still have a long way to go, but am beginning to incorporate more exercise into my exercise program.

I am trying to weigh in only once a week. Now that it is getting colder - I will be outdoors more. I love to hike in the woods - but not until the bugs and snakes go underground. lol So hopefully I will see some results.

I have a short term goal of 8 pounds to lose before Sandy gets here on Thanksgiving.

That sounds like one of those weight loss/prosperity theology guys! It's okay, though- I only count my Monday morning weigh-ins as "official" weights.

I had to weigh-in the day after Thanksgiving! But I actually lost a pound! On Thanksgiving, I ate just a little bit of everything. I really wanted to go back and get seconds, but I just thought about how hard I worked to lose weight, and how I did not want to have to go back and re-lose the same pounds again. So it was good! Now Christmas . . . that might be different, cuz of all the great cookies! And my arch nemisis comes around at Christmas time--EGGNOG!!! I LOVE eggnog!!! But one serving, 1/4 cup of eggnog, is 270 calories, and more than half of it is fat! It's oh so bad for me, but I so love it. I even have a tee shirt that says, "Got Eggnog?" :P But I can stay away from it. I just gotta keep my eyes on the prize!

I've lost about 10kg in the past 11 months. Not sure how! Half of it came off in New Zealand when we were there for two months. I guess I just like Thai food so much and didn't feel like eating NZ food much while I was there! After 5 years in Thailand I can't bare to eat icecream or butter or drink anything with milk and I'm not a fan of the deep fried foods that you get here.

I have started the CSIRO diet this week, it's more like an eating plan than a diet - you eat lots of food, it's just balanced to make sure you're not having too much of anything. Of course, you still can't have slabs of chocolate or cheesecake or anything while you are wanting to lose.

An example of what I eat in a day - it's a high protein diet, so a fair amount of meat - you've got to be a meat lover to like this diet.

Breakfast - 3/4 cup high fibre cereal, 250ml low fat milk, 100g tinned fruit

Lunch - Ham roll - 100g lean ham, multigrain or wholemeal roll, 50g fetta cheese and as much salad as you want. 50g tinned fruit and 100g low fat yoghurt.

Dinner - Roast lamb - 200g lean roast meat (marinated if you like) with baby roast vegies - 200g vege of choice (not potato however) more veg if you want, vegies are on the free list for calories.
1 piece of fruit

There is lots of fish, tuna, salmon included on the diet too, but I'm not a fish lover, so substitute with another protein item like beef, lamb or chicken.

Exercise for the first week is 10-20 minutes 3 times a week, this increases gradually over the weeks. The eating plan is for 12 weeks, followed by a plan to increase your intake of treat items until your weight remains stable.
I can also have a 20g treat per day - chocolate, nuts or whatever you'd like. Doesn't sound like alot, but a 20g choc is a snack size snickers or mars - enough to satisfy the cravings!

So far it's been quite easy - first week though!

If you'd like to check this diet out - info and where you can purchase the book:

Hello all! I was posting on the last weight loss thread. I am still on a quest to lose weight. I have done "Weight Watchers" for a long time & it has worked for me several times, but now it's not. Is it possible to become immune to a diet, if you've been doing it for awhile? I was thinking about looking into that "Nutri System" diet. Have any of you tried that? I've heard that it works great, but I don't know anyone that has actually used it. Could someone tell for sure? It's kind of expensive & I don't want to risk it if nobody knows for sure how good it is.

Hey! I just stumbled across this thread! First, I have to say how cool that there is a Gomer from Macon, MO, cuz that's where my brother lives!! I just spent Thanksgiving there with him. How cool is that??!!

Anyhooo....it's sooo cool that this thread was started on July 20--that is the very day I started my diet!! I have been doing Nutrisystem and working out & so far have lost 36 pounds!! Yesssss! Praise God!! I would recommend Nutrisystem. I am doing the 5-day program (with weekends off--it is helpful for teaching you how to eat right when you are finally done with the program). So I basically eat NS food 5 days a week and just eat sensibly the other 2 days. I also am doing the program that is designed around your age range, so that seems to help also. This program definitely works if you STICK WITH IT. Most of the food is good--cost is not that bad when you consider it is all of your meals--breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. All you have left to buy are fruits/veggies/milk. I ordered through QVC so the price was a bit lower than just going to the NS website. (The program I'm on runs about $45 a week including shipping costs.)

Hope this helps!!:D

It is pretty cool that you were just in Macon for Thanksgiving. I guess that it is a small world. I am not even originally from Macon. I was born & raised in Springfield, Illinois. My husband is from Macon & I moved here when we married. Nutri System sounds like a great diet. I could probably afford it. I do appreciate your response to my question. Thanks, again.

A friend gave me some photos of me and my hubby and two sons that she took on Thanksgiving...(Yeah I am an Aussie, but we had our own version of Thanksgiving, so we could celebrate with my American Sister;) )
Anyway....
I cant stand to look at the pictures. My boys are fine...and adorable (hubby included)
But me! I dont recognise myself.:(
I look so masculine due to my weight! Its terrible.
God tells me not to hate what He loves and I am doing my best....but I gotta tell ya....I am depressed to the max. Sometimes I am tempted to do what bulimics do....the only reason I dont is because I know that it will upset my Lord something fierce....but its mighty tempting.:o
I remember being upset the week of my 21st birthday because it was a formal affair and I wasnt able to find a dress that flattered my size. I had only gone up one size, but it was devastating to me. (Can you imagine that I was distraught at being an US size 8!?!) All I saw was FAT....
Now I am a 'big' girl....I didnt loose my pregnancy weight from my 1st baby...and I am 30 kg over weight...probably more...:(

I feel like I have no control over my life. I have been fighting for so many years and I cant seem to get anywhere.
People say I am beautiful despite my weight.
Sometimes that makes me feel good...sometimes it makes it worse.

And I honestly dont see others in regard to their weight! Its not an issue. I dont find people any more or less beautiful due to their size. So why cant I apply that to myself!?!
Why cant I stand up and say, the One who created the Heavens and the Earth thinks I am beautiful, therefore I am!

Ugh....sorry....
I just feel really cr*ppy today.:( :o :(

I really do understand and feel your pain. I have gained 15 lbs this year and I still can't stop eating. I do ok for a day or two... get all gung ho and then fall down again. I just had to buy pants and jeans a size bigger  and I"m not happy about it! And right now is the worst time to even try to eat right. I've got customers dropping off goodies at my office every day. I hate to say this but I think I"m gonna have to back burner it till the 1st.

I too don't look at other weight and everyone tells me how great I look. But I feel like a wild boar! I'm with you Joan. I've got to head out now but maybe we can pm each other and get something going to inspire!

I've been avoiding this thread for a long time...I suppose I should join y'all. I'm giving up cokes (again) and eating out totally for a few months. Along with some walking. There is a gym right across the street from the library I work at (there's another issue; my job is a fairly sedentary one) and I used to lift weights and work out a LOT and enjoyed it. Perhaps I should get back into that as well!

Prayers on all of your endeavours, y'all! We're all in this together! :D

I've been sick this week and not allowed to eat anything really, so have lost 2kg in about 4 days. I know this is not really a reliable loss, however, I have lost 3kg genuinely in the past month so am feeling quite proud of myself!

I have started weight watchers again full tilt. I started 1/1/08 (I know... so cliche!). I've lost 3.6 lbs since 1/1.

This time..... I've turned it all over to God. I prayed to God saying, "Lord, PLEASE help me. This is one battle I have NEVER won. I've had minor victories through the years but I cannot win the WAR! PLEASE God, I need you to take this weakness from me, replace it with YOUR strength. I know God that you do not judge us by the way we look. This is not about that. This is about a weakness in me that keeps me from fully doing Your work. I am self-conscience in front of others, that's a barrier. Take this from me Lord and heal my weakness. Let me respect this earthly body you gave me and treat it as Your holy temple. I pray all of this to you God in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour. Amen"

WON'T YOU ALL JOIN ME?????
