Does anybody know what kinds of distortion Mark and Brad use on specifically the Wire cd? It sounds really good, and I'm trying to match it, but can't get any results. I play in a Christian Rock band, and I like the sound Third Day's guitars have, but I can't find them, and I would like to have the same sound guitars that they have for my band. What are their distortions set to? Thanks for the help!

I don't know the pedal, but I know that they use distortion AND chorus pedals.... specifically songs like "Come On Back To Me", "I Got A Feelin" and "Billy Brown"...

The exact sounds on those songs, are exactly what I want for my guitar! They sound so nice! I wonder what settings they have for it. For the band, I use a pedal that has some effects on it, but only two of them work...Distortion, and Delay. The distortion sounds bad, and more clean, then actual "Rock" kind of sound, but the delay is cool. I use that on "Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord", and it sounds really great. My only problem is getting the right sound for it. I wish I could match what they use for those songs!

I recall Brad using the Marshall Bluesbreaker II pedal if I'm not mistaken. Used it myself and I have to say it's a very impressive effects pedal. Also, the Maxon OD808 or Ibanez Tubescreamer TS808 (Essentially the same pedal, the Maxon is the real deal, but the Ibanez doesn't sound any worse) give a nice overdriven sound without pushing it into the dirt. If you prefer single coil pickups, you can try the Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive. Very cheap - Very good for single coils, a friend of mine uses it with a Seymour Duncan Strat pickup in his Telecaster. I use a Digitech Bad Monkey on an Ibanez shallow-hollowbody with an EMG Select pickup through a Crate solid-state amplifier, and with some tweaking, I can get some great Third Day sounds. I'm not sure what all the band uses (just check out the pictures of some of their equipment and you'll see that it would require some major cash to afford) but for the most part you can find something for that "Wire" sound, so long as you try out several different pedals or amps or combined effects chains with your particular guitar. :D
I certainly hope that helps!

I know one of Mark's staples is a Fulltone Fulldrive 2.

I like the steel guitar distortions Mark used back in the early days of Third Day, especially the distortion on the live version of Blackbird on CV1.
Any chance we see the return of the steel guitar?
