I decided to post this, as it was said we could discuss any book here.
The book I wish to talk about is not a novel, but a book of devotionals. There are a hundred of them and they're about various topics. They're powerful, inspiring, and encouraging. The book is titled Just Passing Through: Notes From a Fellow Traveler. It is available on Amazon and on the author's website. I would be willing to discuss any of the various devotionals with anyone else who's read the book. Here are the links, if you're interested:
Author's website: here (http://www.jasonmitchener.com/)
Amazon: here (http://www.amazon.com/Just-Passing-Through-Fellow-Traveler/dp/1553065662/ref=cm_lmf_tit_17_rsrsrs0/102-8316836-5205700)

I haven't yet read the book, but I very much enjoyed a recent one from our friend's website entitled "False Appearance." It gave a really great perspective on how we see things and how powerless the enemy really is in our lives if we choose to look at things the way God does. I even went so far as to share this with my small group a few Sundays ago. They all felt the same as I did.
I find that I am amazed at the profundity of simplicity.
I can vouch for the first mentioned book. It has been a while since I finished it so I should take another read....

Stop making me laugh jason! i'm sitting here with tears running down my face i'm laughing so hard! my ribs hurt from laughing(seriously). to get technical- you aren't yours- you're his!!
Do I have to stop making you laugh?
You're right though. I'm His.
From the above book ...
It's All His
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
1 Chronicles 29:14
King David had made many preparations so his son Solomon could build the temple. This included gathering gold, silver, and precious jewels. David willingly offered much of his own gold and silver. The rulers and the people also gave freely.
Imagine if a man donated twenty-five million dollars to a college. This would make headlines. The school would highly praise him, and probably pledge to name one of their new buildings after him.
Yet David praised only God. He didn’t focus on himself or the people who donated their wealth for the temple. He focused on God alone.
All things are from God. He is the author of our willingness to give. God worked in us “both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).
David realized God already owned everything they had given.
God also owns us. He asks us to return everything to Him. Our lives. Our dreams. Our families. Our money. Our time.
God wants it all.
Yet sometimes we are unwilling to give Him everything. We want to hold on to something.
Others say they will give everything to God later, in the future.
God wants it all. Now.
Why is it so hard to give everything to God when we know He owns it all anyway? Everything we have is loaned to us from God. We are debtors.
Don’t hold anything back from God. Give everything you have, and everything you are, to Him.

Actually, I'm going to go pull my handy-dandy copy out tonight. I have a number of favorites marked, but I marked them by Number as they are in the book. But, for those of you who have not ordered this book, please do. It is a wonderfully written set of short devotionals you could do on a daily basis and just start over, and they are very powerful and many made me stop and reassess or just give thought to some things. It's been along time since I pulled the book out after reading it. Great thread, time to pull it out again!!!!!!!!!!

It is nice to see a thread on one of my favourite books!
I keep my copy on my desk at work - sometimes my job is a tad distasteful and disturbing and dipping into Jasons devotionals picks me up and gives me the strength to carry on.
That is no mean feat.
I can honestly state my friendship with Jason (and his book) has brought me closer to G_d.
I recommend this book to anyone.
I hope to purchase some more copies in the future to distribute in my local community. I am sure I can find people who will appreciate it as much as I do.

Here's the most recent endorsement:
"Just Passing Through: Notes from a Fellow Traveler is an amazing blend of profound thought, heartfelt prayers, divine hope and insightful observations. To dismiss this book as just another devotional, is like saying one's home is just an other place to spend the night. The author, Jason Mitchener, considers the most difficult topics as only a person who has been there can. He never turns his back on pain or thoughts of discouragement; but he instead fills every crack between the two with notes of joy, grace and hope. The final melody is so expertly sung throughout his book, that it brings to life a veritable symphony - leaving you breathless for more."
-Louise Bergmann DuMont, author of the devotional books "Grace by the Cup: A Break From the Daily Grind" and "Faith-Dipped Chocolate: Rich Encouragement to Sweeten Your Day"

That's one of my favorites.
Service
After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
John 13:5
Two lumps of clay sat on a potter’s shelf. They began to discuss with each other their hopes for the future.
The smaller of the two lumps said, “I wonder what the potter will make me. Perhaps I’ll be a beautiful vase and be placed in the king’s palace! People will come from near and far to admire me.”
The larger lump laughed. “You’re too small to be a vase for a king. I’ll be the vase. And you ... you will be a doorstop.”
Later that day, the potter picked up the larger lump of clay and placed it on the wheel. He began to mold and shape the clay. All during the shaping process, the lump of clay kept thinking, I know I’m going to be a work of beauty because I’m so great.
When the potter finished his work, the clay took a look at himself to see what the potter had created. He cried when he realized he was a simple washbasin.
For years, the washbasin sat on the floor near the door. Servants used him to wash the dusty feet of visitors whose open sandals provided little protection.
As time went on, the washbasin grew accustomed to his use as a servant’s tool.
One day, the washbasin saw someone coming toward him. He realized the man was Jesus.
Jesus picked up the washbasin, filled it with water, and began to wash His disciples’ feet.
Later, when the washbasin sat on the floor alone, he thought to himself, I wanted to be a beautiful vase used by a king. Instead I became a simple washbasin used by servants. Little did I know that the King of kings would come as a servant and use me for His glory.
Do you desire to be great and admired by men? Or do you desire to be used by God and blessed by Him?
Allow the Great Potter to mold you for His glory.
