I would agree with all of the above!! Not sure who half the folks are that Tony's talking about - sorry Tony  ;) I blame it on being English! Love, love, love Mac's voice - very hard to sing the same key as him though. He seems to have perfect pitch AND tone. Love ya Maccy boy!

I was sitting in the car with my grandchildren flipping the radio stations when I hear my 5 year old grandaughter say grandma is that MAC, singing, I said yes Selma that is...she heard his voice before I did, hehe she said grandma you love MAC don't you, I said yes I do and the rest of the band too. I have her trained for Third Day listening , FIRST GOD SECOND FAMILY THIRD DAY...

No argument here. Tony Trout's list pretty much matches mine, too, esp. Guy Penrod. Hey, they're coming here in November! Cool or what? I'm taking Mom, she loves Guy and Lynda Randle especially. I could hear Mac singing southern gospel, couldn't you?

Lynda's brother Michael Tait can hum pretty good too. In the Free At Last ten year DVD he sings at a wedding and it is awesome.

Never seen them but the Gaithers will be hear around September.

I agree in saying that Mac's voice is angelic. It's beautiful. It is a blessing. And, I think that if Mac finds time to read this, he'd be sitting here laughing at himself. He just might be thinking, in all his humility, "Me? The most beautiful voice? I could name *however many* voices that sound so much better!" You just keep telling yourself that, Mac. We not only admire your beautiful voice, but your (and all the band's) humility. Keep on shinin'!

Mac has a totally awesome voice. Very distinctive and like some reviewer once said, it's got a "dark chocolate" richness to it. ;)

When a 3D song is playing in the car, my kids recognize his voice immediately. In fact, Mac is the gold standard; when the kids hear another artist on the radio, the question that then gets asked is "does he play on Mac's team?"

People don't tease me for liking 3D, as much as they do for me being a fanatic fan that only talks about third day or related subjects. My firends and family are very supportive of me and my love of this band but they think that i am a little physco and i am, but i;m a GOMER!!!!

As for what people think, i reallly don't care, this band and their music has truly changed my life and in ways that even my closest family member will never know, that is why i love the guys.

I don't know about BEST, but certainly unique and refreshing. I personally like Jeremy Camp's voice as it is more gritty. I like Scott Stapp's voice and Chad Kroeger's voice as well, but Mac is a genius because he and his partners in crime know what type of music and melodies fit his voice best. He doesn't force it and try to sound like guys like Scott Stapp and I think that's what makes him a musical genius and a unique lead singer, especially in Christian mainstream.

In all honesty the one and only reason I started listening to Christian music way back in 1998, was because of Mac's voice.:o ;)

It is hauntingly beautiful. His voice is a most beautiful instrument that has been created by God and He has taught Mac how to train it. As Mac has grown older his voice has matured, and he manipulates it like a potter molds/manipulates clay, creating, as a result a masterpiece.

For a while I only heard Mac's voice. Then I began to hear the lyric and I was hooked. The music started to be noted and ever since becoming a Gomer in Jan 2005 (although I didn't join the boards till later in the year) I have come to know and more than appreciate all of the musicians that make up Third Day.
Mac receives a lot of attention and that is to be expected, for he is the Front Man. But in truth, if Third Day were to loose either Mark, David, Brad, or Tai, then Third Day would cease to exist. They are a unified body. A mighty fine one at that too.

As for best voice in the world... ....
Let me just say, Mac's voice is beautifully unique. I think that the fact that Mac has a very special place in my heart makes me even more partial or biased in voting for his voice.
Best in the world though....on a serious note...once you audibly hear the voice of the Lord, there is nothing more beautiful or spectacular.

On a fun note...you betcha Mac ROCKS....he is the MAN!

As long as we are on the subject, I find it very interesting how his voice has changed over the years. He says in the CV1 DVD when they show the early footage how it was about three octaves higher then. Still sounded wonderful, but it has definitely improved with time, gotten more depth or something. Typical example of how men improve with age. My husband's hair gets more salt than pepper every day, and I think it's adorable. If I missed a trip to the colorist one month, it would be frightening!!!! :P

Mac definitely has one of the best voices on earth. He's got a richness and a strength in his voice that's comfortable to listen to. And he doesn't sound like anybody else I've ever heard.

As singers get older and wiser, that's reflected in their voice. Mac is just one example of this. Listen to Aretha Franklin, and there is a difference between her voice back in the day and now. Etta James has a much deeper, huskier voice now than she did back in the '60s. All the life you live gets reflected in the tone of your singing voice...it gives you more soul.

Amen Gomer sister! :D

My first time is when Andi (see above) MADE me listen to Mountain of God. I was hooked. They just ripped the words from my soul and Mac sang it back to me in a way that made me heal and triumph! At that time I was just climbing out of the valley and up the mountain. Now I STAND upon the mountain of God and Mac's voice helped guide the way.

I honestly don't know if they have any idea of the magnitude of their impact on their fans. They would humbly "poo poo" it I'm sure but WE all know the truth!

Have you listened to Long Time Forgotten on 3D radio? I don't know if it's as noticeable there, but when I first played back the tape I wondered if it was defective, or playing too fast on my tape deck or SOMETHING, because Mac sounded SO Alvin and the Chipmunk-y. :) I remember when I posted something about it here, Corrine reassuring me that that was just how he sounded back then.

But yeah, I'm with everyone here, that yes, Mac does indeed have THE most fantastic voice. I know that when I'm having a difficult time dealing with stuff, like when I lost my grandma late last year, there was nothing else I wanted to listen to other than Mac songs, be they 3D, or Glory Revealed or what have you. Of course, he's good to listen to for the GOOD times too (otherwise the concerts wouldn't be as great as they always are), but he's definitely been blessed with a very comforting voice for when stuff isn't going so well.

I agree 150%. Mac is THE BEST and most expressive vocalist and NEVER off key. I remember really feeling like I needed to find an AWESOME Christian "rock and roll" band. In the past when I tried to listen to some of them, I just did not care for any of them. Then I feel that God led me to Third Day. I listened to excerpts from Offerings. My first impression was that Mac sounded like Darius Rucker of Hootie And The Blowfish, which to me is great. Then the more I listened, Mac became so unique and wonderful as are the whole band that I knew I had been led to THE ULTIMATE Christian rock band with the MOST TALENTED singer of ALL (also the MOST TALENTED bass player, guitar players, drummer and keyboard player).

I listened to Third Day in the nineties but I wasn't hooked until I went into a Christian bookstore and asked the sales clerk what album she recommended for a guy who was recuperating in my home. He was a new Christian and had been in a coma for forty days after being shot 8 times at close range. He was 28 then and I didn't have a clue what music to buy for him. I decided on Offerings for him and after listening to it, I fell in love with the album and Mac's voice.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought she can't be serious. Of course he has the best voice on earth, the universe and beyond. Surely everyone knows that!! Seriously though, I love his voice and the music and the words. Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, Third Day makes me happy!

I think Bebo's voice is ok, but a little too high for me. Almost all the musicians I prefer over others have the deeper voices, and Mac's is the best of all those. There's no Justin Timberlake (or any of those higher range singers) in my IPOD, and very few female artists, in fact. But that's just my preference. Maybe it's cause my dad has a "deep, booming" voice, and now that's what I prefer from having heard it all my life.

I want to hear if Macs Wife and Children think he has the best voice in the world, and also the rest of the band;) :D

I think Mac has the best voice out there, it all just seems so effortless when he sings rock songs or ballads. It does take the rest of the band to make the Third Day sound but. I love the fact that they are the same band all through the years, I don't like bands that keep changing members all the time.

I also like all the singers with deep voices like Mac, Bear from Needtobreathe, Jon Micah Sumral from Kutless, Todd Agnew.
But I also like ladies singing like Dawn from Fireflight, or Eowyn, and also Avril Lavigne.

The Third Day stage presence is amazing, when we saw them in Northern Ireland for the first time, there was an english band who could not get the crowd going, or get them to stand up, Third Day came out for their set, Mac waved his hand for everyone to stand up, and everyone stood up straightaway and clapped, cheered, worshipped for the rest of the night!!

Beautiful and Soulful are the words I would use to describe Mac Voice!!!

Great choice of words. I absolutely love Mac's voice. I'm also pretty partial to Todd Agnew's. I know some people have trouble with the baritone aspect of it, but I think it is distinctively dynamite.

I love Todd's deep voice. A deep, booming voice is so appealing to me. I think Mac has better range as a singer, and I like the lyrics and music of Third Day better, but Todd's great.

I agree !!! When I very first heard Mac, I thought he sounded like Darius Rucker from Hootie !!

Hootie Schmootie! Those creepy BK commercials a few years back cured my Hootie admiration.

haha! It's funny that so many people say Mac sounds like Travis Tritt.
That's what my dad said when he first heard Third Day. I was playing my CD in his car, and he freaked out because "Travis Tritt" was singing. (he's a huge country fan) He wouldn't believe me when I told him it was a guy named Mac Powell. I finally had to pull out the CD cover and prove it to him.

I didn't hear anything like Travis, but then I like Travis and really get into music so heard a difference.
