Okay granted I haven't read up on this browser entirely but am trying to use it nonetheless.

How do I get an address bar? Looks like the default is a Google search bar.

There should be two boxes - one on the left is an address bar (with a "go" arrow next to it") and the one on the right is a search bar.

What does the browser window look like? You should see a row of buttons just under the file menu. One of the buttons is the home button...looks like a house. The address bar should be right next to that, and then the Google search to the right of that.

Are you meaning that your homepage is set to google.com's search page?

In FireFox, you can change the search engine showing in the right hand side search box from Google (default)...

You can remove any of these pre-selected (by FireFox inc') search engines by clicking the

'manage search engines' link at the biottom of the drop down menu, which brings up this box...

... just select each unwanted search engine one at a time and click 'remove'...

you can add other search engines by either creating your own plug in (beyond me - but instructions are given) or clicking the link 'get more search engines' at the bottom of the box. This brings up a web page with a selection of other search engines, just click on each and select 'add' on the box that pops up...

...if the search engine you want is not on that web page, scroll down to the bottom of that page and there is a link...

This will take you to a further page of search engine plug-ins.

On this opage there is a link about two thirds of the way down the page called...
There is also a list of the top 25 downloads.

Just click on one of these and the 'add search engine box (above) will appear.

Ironically, I cannot locate a 'Microsoft Search' plug-in to add, but I am still looking...

Edit: The Microsoft search engine is on this page...

Thank you bassgirl, I would not have known this myself if you had not suggested it!

It is looking correct today. Two boxes. Left one for URLs and right one for Google.

In FireFox, you can change the search engine showing in the right hand side search box from Google (default)...I use MSN at work and like it because of the preview pages but I'm going to try Google here at home. :)

Did change my hope page from the Mozilla welcome page to the boards! :D

Huh?

Becky's friend has heard of it but I haven't.

Google is the search engine I use most.

I also have altavista in the drop down menu and now MSNLiveSearch (which has a few more advertising sites rated near the beginning, but Google is getting that way too).

I have an ubuntu liveCd distro - I just boot up the computer with the CD in and hey presto! I have linux. It is my intention to move away from Microsoft operating systems with my newer computers, Vista has so much I do not need!

Andre's been running it for a while with XP on a different partition - but he's gonna get rid of it soon. He's recently downloaded Linux Mint which has a lot of the graphics drivers an audio codecs built in. I'll be tempted when I can run all the Adobe software I need to.

I don't use anything much MS. I use Open Office now, it's great!

Why Oh why do people go on about OpenOffice, I mean, what has it got that Microsoft has not got?

Just because it is free, has cross function operatability with other word processing packages (even more so than Microsoft has with its own packages), opens powerpoint presentations and does everything you could want from a high price package....;)

I could suspect you of having shares in OpenOffice, but as it is free...

Ah, even more useful information from the Third day boards - that would be my criticism of ubuntu, having to find codecs and drivers.

I will go off and download Linux Mint, sounds like an avenue worth pursuing.

And of course, with Linux, you get cute penguins too!

open office is amazing. i love it.

as far as ubuntu, with dell preinstalling it now, i suspect drivers will be getting much better, very soon.
