What did you all think about tonights GOP debate?

Out of the three top-runners, I liked Romney the best. But overall I like Huckabee and Hunter the best. They were truthful and very strong about what they believed in.

Your thoughts?

I didn't see the debate, but I've been a Mike Huckabee supporter for a long time. I lived in Arkansas for 20 years and have voted for him there. He has my support! I've heard him speak in person and have always been really impressed with him.

I met Hilary Clinton in person, too, when Bill was govenor of Arkansas. She was very rude to me when she realized I was no one important. At first she smiled at me and shook my hand, but when she realized that I was just an invited guest at the reception and not anyone who could help her or Bill out, she was down right rude to me. Totally blew me off. I never voted for a Clinton and never will.

I didn't watch the debate, because it became what I knew it would, a Bush Slam fest.. (What Party is Bush in anyway?)

I am looking forward to Fred Thompson joining the race next month (if the rumor mill is right). Although I disagree with him on immigration, I think he is the only real winnable conservative running. I don't think McCain can topple Guillani, and well Guillani isn't much of a conservative.

This is my first election year as a born again Christian. Very interesting how your views change! I've voted democratic for YEARS and now.... well... not a chance. I tried watching the debate for awhile but find politics still make me break out in hives. I was impressed with Huckabee and McCain. They are the two that seem LEAST like politicians. I'll definitely do more studying this year than in year's past. I'll be checking the boards to see other Christians opinions.

Thanks for the post!

McCain leads the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire, if I'm not mistaken

Iowa and New Hampshire don't matter any more, not like they used to, especially considering that Next Year the Florida Primary will be the week following, and the super duper tuesday will be the following week.

Before Iowa and New Hampshire could be used to build campain momenteum because they were over a month before super tuesday.. but that has all changed this year...

Besides, once Thompson's ads showing McCain saying he has "presidental experience" start to run, McCain will be running against his own endorsement....

Not really a big surprise since he is a former preacher. Realistically, Huckabee is running for a nomination for VP. If one of the more "moderate" gets the nom (Giuliani) he would help balance the ticket. This is still early simply because Thompson hasn't gotten in the thick of it yet. My dream ticket (for policy reasons) is Thompson/Gingrich.

I disagree, theyre still first and still are two important areas because of their diversity.. NH being a moderate New England State and Iowa being a moderate middle America state. Still can tell a lot from which way NH and Iowa go

Iowa Picked McCain in 2000, and he still lost the nomination, and that was before the rushed primary season...

Do any of you know much about Ron Paul? I know he once ran for president as a Libertarian. He and I don't share the same views when it comes to Iraq and the war on terror. But on other sites I visit, lots of republicans like him. Anyone have info on him?

You should, he is the Hugely popular Governor of Florida, with a 70% Job Approval rating.

He doesn't have much political baggage that other potential Candidates might have. Not to mention, republican operatives maneuvered a bill through the state Legislature and the State senate that lifted a ban that would prevent him from seeking a national office while remaining Governor.

I wasn't sure how I felt about him at first, but the more I read about him, the more I like him. He is not a true libertarian b/c of his pro-life views but he is definitely in favor of a smaller / decentralized government and is more for state and local control of issues.

I have said it before and I even started a thread about it, but I am a Huckabee fan!! I realize he doesn't have much of a chance and like Jason said maybe for VP but I think he is awesome. I would love to raise more awareness and help push him up there!

'True libertarian'? You can be a libertarian and pro-life. http://www.l4l.org/

Ron Paul is much more than just another politician. He is a principled man, one who wants to go back to the days of our founding fathers when our government actually cared about upholding the constitution. I have never donated money to a candidate until Ron Paul. I really hope he gets the nomination! Vote Ron Paul :)

I'm aware you can be libertarian and pro-life, but the usual stance is pro-choice, and I'm glad Ron Paul doesn't have that view of pro-choice. I think he's the best candidate in the race and I would love to see him win the nomination and the presidency.
