I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen anything on here about Dr. Kevorkian's recent release from prison.

It seems like there would be at least a little stir from the conservatives on here. I am actually glad this man was released from prison. I have no problem at all with physician assisted suicide and wouldn't care at all if it was legalized in all 50 states. In my opinion I think it is evil for the state to force a terminally ill and suffering patient from deciding to go on to the next life, wherever it may take them. Instead of allowing people like Dr. Kevorkian to assist others in suicide in a safe and desirable way, the government has forced people to live in constant pain, torture, suffering...or to commit suicide in 'unpleasant' ways. I would never look to suicide for myself, but I do believe that it should be the right of a person to ask for professional help when dying. The government should NOT have control over who helps you getting there.

I'm pro-life from birth to death - no abortion and no executions - but really am not sure about euthanasia. There are times when there is no hope that you put it in God's hands to heal someone or take them home.

I am not a rabid anti-rights-to-euthenasia person, but I do believe it is largely unethical from a Christian perspective.

Spoken from a disabled-person's perspective, it's a wimp's way out. Period.

I agree 100%!!! Kervorkian is a nutcase, IMO. Only God is the One that has the power to decide when we leave this Earth.

I don't agree with assisted suicide, but if only God has the power to decide when we leave then does it work back the other way and become...

only God has the power to decide if we should linger for months or years after it is our time to go?

That's what I wonder. With medical advances that we have today, sometimes we prolong what shouldn't have been prolonged. Or sometimes we can "save" what shouldn't have been saved. For example. My son was 8 weeks premature 22 years ago. The medical knowledge was there to save him and he grew up fine and healthy. If he had been a few weeks earlier, we probably would have lost him. Now medical knowledge allows babies born at just 20 weeks gestation (40 is full term) to be saved, but they usually have all kinds of problems. Most doctors won't encourage intervening unless the baby has reached at least 30 weeks, because of all the problems a baby born sooner than that will have. So, even tho we can save those babies, should we? And if you have a terminal illness, but can be kept alive, should you? If you're still going to die and your remaining time will have a good quality of life, by all means, save it! But if the quality of your life is going to be awful, why not just let the illness run it's course? I'm not saying that we should kill babies that aren't born perfect or kill people with terminal illnesses. I'm just saying that maybe we shouldn't do everything medically possible to sustain their life if it's going to be such a pain filled life with no chance of recovery. Just because we can do something doesn't necessarily mean we should do something.
