For some reason I had it in my head that Untamed was for June. I read it today; it took about 4 or 5 hours. I enjoyed the book as Hood’s experiences and my own were pretty close (maybe going to the same university helps). I have even come to many of the same conclusions as Hood, although a bit later in life. Growing up in the rural south, I have never really fit the traditional definitions of manhood. The interesting thing is that those definitions are not necessarily the definitions found in the Bible; yet we (the church) have molded the Bible to fit society’s criteria. I also have felt the desire to be part of a “brotherhood” but have always found that difficult. Even today, when my church brothers (including my best friends) gather it does not take too long before I start to feel out of place. Men are intimidated at the thought of discussing anything emotional or deep. So long as the conversation is about lawn mowers, mortgages, and sports, we’re fine. After that, men start to squirm. Our spiritual discussion lead more toward Scriptural debates than what it all means inside. That being said, the end of the book got a little touchy-feely for me. Still, I think this is a great book for a young man or at least a man who still struggles with being an adult.
