I've seen the meaning of Conspiracy #5 explained, but what about She Sings In Riddles? I understand this limited EP did not have printed song lyrics and there have been some posted in the thread about Rockstar, but I'm not sure we have the correct lyrics. Anyone have the answer?

I vaguely remember reading someplace, probably HERE :) , that the song was written about the singer Jewel. Don't know how accurate that is, though, or anything more about it than that.

Anyone want to confirm and/or elaborate on that?

I said Alanis Morissette. I may be wrong though. I doubt it's Jewel as her lyrics aren't enigmatic. It may be Sarah McLachlan as she has a song titled Angel.

I thought there used to be something about it in the Band Archives but I didn't find it...It is probably my all time favorite 3D song though.

Edit: actually now that I think about it, I think one of the guys posted "It's a riddle" or something like that

"The smile of a believer, wedged and bound"?

I just don't see that rhyming with "truth or a lie".

Yes I did. See Ask Jason from last night.

It doesn't, but those are the correct lyrics.

Sorry, I have better things to do at night than read Ask Jason (like watch American Idol). ;)

You shouldn't be- I was watching American Idol for you to see how Jordin did. I just read your reply a day late and a dollar short. I did a Google search for the lyrics and it's a little different that what is posted on ThirdDayfans.com:

The voice of an angel
I cannot tell
Light or darkness
Heaven or hell
The smile of a believer, wedged and bound
Friend or deceiver
The truth or a lie

She sings in riddles
She sings in rhymes
Saying everything and nothing at the same time
Still there's something that blows my mind
She sings in riddles
She sings in rhymes

Words of a poet in perfect time
With questions and answers
In every verse, every line
I smile and I wonder
Is there a song?
I've not yet decided if it's right or it's wrong

She sings in riddles
She sings in rhymes
Saying everything and nothing at the same time
Still there's something that blows my mind
She sings in riddles
She sings in rhymes

The voice of an angel

Light or darkness
Heaven or hell
The smile of a believer, wedged and bound

The truth or a lie

Notice that it's still "wedged and bound."

Picky, picky. Aren't you being a fussy fuzz meister? Sorry, I digress. It would still be interesting to know who the song is about, but I love it just the same!

I remember reading a post where it was hinted at it being about Jewel in the band archives, but it was several years ago that it was originally posted, and it has been deleted since...but I remember reading it.

Ahhh, so I wasn't imagining things, someone DID mention Jewel somewhere at sometime on the 3D site. Yay. I thought maybe I was going batty or something.

I might still BE, of course, but at least not about this particular subject. 83185

Yeah, but that doesn't sound right compared to what Mac sings, nor does it make any sense. I think it's "(with) which to ****" - can't make out the last word though. The vowel sound does seem to be a long "I" to rhyme with "lie" in the next line. The lyrics available online are also noticeably different from what Mac sings elsewhere in the song - for example, the earlier line is "of light or of darkness" rather than merely "light or darkness" as the lyrics have it. This is why we need the real lyrics back on the website! :)

I agree with you, Brian. Bring back the lyrics! :D

I always sung that line as:
"the smile of a believer, with which to buy
friend or deceiver, the truth or a lie"

...therefore giving you the rhyme and it makes sense...kinda

I always thought it was "bewitched and bound". Makes sense, sounds lyrically beautiful.

I'm listening now and I do believe you are right Corinne. This sounds closest to what I heard him sing.

So are the correct lyrics "the smile of a believer, wedged and bound"? That just doesn't seem to flow with "friend or deceiver, the truth or a lie". Thanks so much for answering our questions here. You rock!

She Sings... is basically about people singing "spiritual" lyrics but not really being clear about what they are singing. I really love certain artists "spirituality". But would love to hear a little more detail about their walks. Don't get me wrong, I don't want "everything" spelled out all the time. Sometimes subtlety can be a good thing and lead to great questions, debate, and conversation. Just would like to hear more from certain artists. Mac

That's Mac's answer to the same question in this thread here (http://www.thirdday.com/boards/showthread.php?p=1674383# post1674383). ;)

I know because that was my question. :D
I wanted to post it here since there was so much discussion about the correct lyrics and I felt Mac cleared it up nicely with his last response.

Certainly sounds a lot more like what he actually sings.

I believe actually the line is:
The smile of a believer, WHICH TO BUY:
Friend or deciever, truth or a lie?

I think that makes more sense than wedged and bound...but its just me

Since she's singing in riddles...we don't know which "personality" to buy...
Is she a FRIEND? a DECEIVER? or perhaps telling the TRUTH or a LIE...LOL
Sorry, I had to chime in

That's exactly the way Mac explained it in his response. Wedged and bound never made sense to me and didn't fit rhythmically. Mac said "of which to buy" as in what am I supposed to believe.
