Hey, I am a huge Ted Dekker fan and have just now been informed that he released another huge release... this one is "SKIN"... and everyone tells me that it is BRILLIANT!

So, I'm going to read it this week & those who feel discussion is necessary, then let's get on that!

Haven't I seen this post someplace before? :)

But what do I know, it's been 15 weeks and I'm STILL not finished with Thr3e yet. ;)

I just finished it a couple of days ago. So read and we'll talk. I liked Showdown better, but this was fun. I'm going to check out the Dekker boards to see what the buzz is there.

Oh man, I couldn't put Thr3e down when I started it. I read it straight through. That's my very favorite Dekker book. The problem with his books, though, is that it's not so fun reading them again, because not knowing the "twist" makes the book. So, he just has to keep writing!

Have you seen the movie? Is it in line with the book? (Thr3e that is.)

Yeh I get emails from Ted's website. I am reading SO much right now so I will have to put Skin on the to do shelf.
Please let us know what its like!

I liked Showdown too. It was the first Ted book I read. House is good. I really liked when Heaven Weeps...
Anyway....whats Skin like????;)

I read Thr3e recently and loved it too. I've only read Thr3e and Blink so far. I hadn't heard about him until Mark picked House as the club selection last fall....I tried House but couldn't really get into it.

I had heard they were making Thr3e into a movie...is it out yet?

EDIT: I just checked Dekker's web site and saw that Thr3e is out on DVD....I guess the movie did come out. Where was I? Hehe. ;)

Heh. The big joke with me and Thr3e is that I started it just after the movie came out in the theatre (figuring that the books are usually better than the movies, I wanted to read it first), and Netflix just sent me the DVD this past weekend (I've got it sitting on the shelf at home waiting to be watched) and I STILL haven't finished the book yet.

That either says it went from theater to DVD REALLYREALLY fast, or I'm taking a verrrry looooong time reading the book. :P

But Showdown was the first and only other Dekker book I've read so far. The only thing I remember about it is when I was eating a banana and reading about those kids eating the worm goop at lunch time, and suddenly feeling VERY queasy. :o *gak!*

I just can't seem to finish Thr3e though... Guess I'll go ahead and watch the movie first...

I heard the movie is not that great. I would not see the movie before reading the book. The book is too good. After hearing the reviews, I haven't been interested in seeing the movie. I might rent it and just watch it as a separate movie and not compare it to the book.

I loved Blink, too!

Actually, Showdown, House, Saint & Skin have a connection to the Circle Trilogy. There are references here and there in those books to CT, which gives them a bit more substance. I kind of struggled through the Circle. I liked the first book a lot (Black), got a little bored in Red, and found White a bit tedious. I was committed though and finished them. I found House really repetitious and boring, but it could have been my mood at the time. I know people who loved it. Showdown & Skin have the Dekker twist at the ends and Skin definitely ended in a non-ending...so, there will definitely be more.

Can't really tell you what Skin is like without giving it away. Just read it. It's fun!

It would be best to read Showdown before Skin. House & Saint came after Showdown and have some connection to Showdown. I'm not sure if you have to read those before reading Skin, but I know you should read Showdown first. It'd be good to read Showdown before reading other Dekker reads, while the Circle Triology is fresher in your mind.

Then you must read Thr3e & Blink!

Ok Diane, so I'm half way through Skin and just now saw your post. Oh well, I'll have to read Showdown next.

Which books make up the Circle Triology?

I just finished Skin this morning. Wow, what a twist at the end. I got sort of bored with it about three quarters of the way through, but then the end caught me off guard so all in all, I liked it. Yep, it definitely left you hanging at the end. I hate having to wait for a sequel. :P

I am a new Ted Dekker fan. I read Thr3e first, then when to Obsessed, and now I'm in the middle of the Dekker and Bill Bright collaberation, Blessed Child, which is very good so far. It's about an orphaned boy with special "powers" who is rescued from Ethiopia and brought to the United States. The sequel to this one is A Man Called Blessed, but I don't know if it has the same characters.

I also have the Thr3e movie in my NetFlix queue- no doubt it won't be nearly as gripping as the book, which I finished reading in less than a week.

Skin was rather dissapointing for me, I must admit. Really I haven't found much of Dekker's that I enjoy beyond a few select books. The Circle Trilogy is way up there on my favorites list though...that series is a masterpiece. Thr3e was quite good as well. There was one other that I really liked too, though I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

I got Th3re from Netflix to and I really liked it. I was pleased to see how well the "book to movie" translation went. Yeah there was probably some things cut out I cant remember as I read the book years ago. But overall thr basic story is there

I watched Thr3e earlier this week- it was pretty alright. I wasn't disappointed, but I agree that the book was better.

I recently finished Blessed Child and just checked out A Man Called Blessed, so I'm anxious to begin reading that one. BC was wonderful, and I would recommend it to "pre-believers", as well as to those of us who need a spiritual renewal of our faith. I think BC would make a cool movie, too.

I just discovered Dekker about 4 months ago and love all of his books (so far)! I started with Thr3e then The Circle Trilogy (Black, Red, White) then Showdown, Saint, Blink, House, Skin, The Martyers Song, Heaven's Wager & Blessed Child. That's 12 books in 4 months! I just can't put his books down when I get started! I loved The Circle Trilogy the best! I can't wait for the 4 middle books to come on in 2008! ( CHOSEN, INFIDEL, RENEGADE, CHAOS) It's time to rewage war with the Horde! I love the way Showdown, Saint, House & Skin all tie back to the Circle Trilogy! There is also a 3rd book in the Project Showdown series called Sinner to come out in 2008 it will continue the story started in Showdown and Saint.

Do you wish you'd read certain books before or after others? I've only read the Circle Trilogy, but have the book Skin and plan to read it next. Should I read something different first? I actually didn't know Dekker had written so many books!

Skin would be ok next but Showdown is the next after the circle trilogy. Showdown follows the blank books of history from the circle trilogy and Saint is a sequel to Showdown. House and Skin are stand alone books but have ties back to the bad guy in Showdown, so even though they are separate stories and can be read in any order you understand the bad guy better if you have read Showdown and Saint first. That’s about all I can tell you with out giving away too much of the stories, but I will tell you something about the bad guys, in Showdown the bad guys last name is BLACK and in Skin it is RED and as you might guess in House it is WHITE. My order to recommend would be Showdown, Saint, then Skin or House in either order.

The more I think about it though, Skin is the most loosely tied in and is the best candidate to be read without the knowledge of the other books so if you want to go ahead and read it first you will be fine but I still think it would be better in the order I listed above.

Thanks for the advice. I've picked up and read books in the past, only to find later, I didn't exactly read them in the right order.

Yes, Skin is definitely the creepiest Ted Dekker that I have read not to mention that it made me physically ill.
