Possibly one of the best tracks off the album. The new version is really great, and may I say...Awesome Job Scotty! He really did a great job on that song. What did you guys think about the song?

I'm sorry to say that I will dissent and say that I am much more fond of the live recording of "Thief" on the Offerings album. The new version is definitely a nice twist on the song, but the original is so classic (IMO) and close to my heart that I can't really hear it any other way. Maybe I'm too close minded. . .

In another thread someone said that it had a lot of the same sounds/stylings as "Carry My Cross" - I agree, however I think that "Carry My Cross" demonstrates a better match lyrically to that style.

Agree 100% Newer versions of other songs I like, Thief has a special meaning for me (Thief Gomer).

Having listened to Thief a number of times now, the only problem I have with it is the guitar solo is just too darn short! I love it. Maybe there'll be a release of an extended mega solo mix :D

One thing these boards have done for me - I am now constantly concious of my spelling, the dictionary sits next to me incase I need to refer to it - can't be upsetting all the old spelling nazi's now!! :D Just used it to spell 'beelzebub', now I would never have spelt it like that!

this is definitely the best thing on the CV1 album. totally made it worth getting the CD. i can listen to this song all day. i wish they would have re-recorded more songs. because thats definitely the coolest part (thief and my hope is you). i really love the solo at the end of thief.

Tonight at church, a friend who teaches my fifth grader, Connor, in bible study, said she was so impressed at how much he knew about the story of the two men who were crucified along with Jesus. She said some kids were asking if they both went to heaven, and Connor practically took over the lesson, and explained about the one theif who accepted Christ. He then explained "I learned that all from the song "Thief", by Third Day. I was one proud gomer mom!!!!:D :D Thanks Mac & Third Day for giving me that gift!!!!

I totally agree! The "Offerings" version is close to my heart as well. While I like the added musical elements of the CV1 version, something was definitely lost in translation, IMO.

In the live "Offerings" version it kind of works up to a fever pitch, then gets really quiet at the end of the song when Mac sings "And I know Paradise is coming soon." There is so much emotion and passion in that one line, and it's just missing on the CV1 version. It alters the whole song for me.
