I'm thinking if we all just agree to pretend that the 80's didn't occur, that would be good enough.
If you're not convinced that this is a worthwhile endeavor, please see Exhibit A: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F5mRUd1I2A
Make sure you watch at least halfway through. The teen girls crying in the audience because Donnie Walbergh smiled at them is too much. I can't believe that guy was in "Band of Brothers"

Ah, that's nothing. I went to an Osmond concert when I was 11, and the girls screamed and cried all the way to the back row. (I am only now mature enough to admit that I went to an Osmond concert...and I did NOT cry).
I'd be more than happy to pretend the 80s never happened and poke a stilletto heel into anyone's foot who brings any of 80s fashion back. Those were hideous years.:D

His most impressive role to date though, to me, is probably "Dudditts" from "Dreamcatcher". What a transformation.

Seriously, I wonder how people will laugh about the 90s or the current decade one day. :D
There really haven't been any as bad as the eighties in a long time. There were so many different outlandish styles and with MTV starting up - it really brought different cultures together for the first time, fused them together - and Bang! Lots of strange happenings!

and I looked great in parachute pants...lol...back when I was a size 8...lol..many moons ago..now and I kinda wore my hair like the blonde....except I am a brunette and my hair was curly in the back and alot longer....
Did anyone have the suede punk rock boots...???? I wore mine out...
I guess the only rock group I saw in the early eighties was Journey...and Bryan Adams along with Foghat and Zebra at the Superdome in New Orleans...
I loved the eighties...sorry Middletree...

And in Band of Brothers. I'm just saying that when watching him as a serious actor, I have a hard time taking him seriously when I remember that Hangin' Tough video. I cope with it by separating it, like that was a different person.
And I knew he was in the 6th Sense, but didn't mention it because he was in it for maybe 3 minutes. In BofB, he played a much more prominent role.

Did anyone hear about Bradley Delp? He was the lead singer for the group Boston. He died over the weekend in his home in New Hampshire at the age of 55. They didn't give a cause of death. I loved Boston back then and then they got back together in the late 90's. It's a shame. mb

Must run in the family  His little brother Mark Wahlberg aka Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch had a little hit called Good Vibrations.
I wonder if the younger generation would take him as seriously if they saw the video clip? :D However, I won't be posting the link, as I've just watched a bit of it and don't think it's suitable viewing for younger eyes ;)

I have no comment on that. I will say that both have turned into much better actors than anyone could have predicted.

How about...
LEGWARMERS!

Ooh, and what a pic, striped legwarmers with Purple Nikes! WooHOO! :D
I was more into blue. Had the blue Nikes, and a pair of white/sky blue/dark blue striped legwarmers. I loved those, depending on which way I tucked them they could be all white, all light blue, or all dark blue, or just a mishmosh of stripes. Kind of scary.
Even scarier? I still have them. Those and my solid pink ones. 82501

Personally I miss the 80's. I graduated in the middle of the decade and some of the best times of my life happened then. I recently (April 28) married the girl I've been chasing since my freshman year back in 1984. How's that for Perseverance? There are things I'd change if I could go back. If you ask me the 70's is the decade I would like to forget. Plus, I rock in 80's trivia pusuit!
God Bless!

Ha ha! Oh yeah, I was remembering a band the other day, Red Rose - all the guys had really long hair (like Marc Bolan) and really really tight spandex trousers!!!
Telling the boys about the quality of hair gel in those days was fun too - it's really difficult to find super strong stuff like that nowadays - maybe it was bad for your hair or something...
Getting ready to go out was the fun part of going out then...spending all that time with my hair and makeup - I was a punk rocker I guess you could say, so it took a while!
I wasn't a follower of Jesus so can't say I had fun though... although there were fun times amongst the pain...
I'd NEVER want to live that life again!!
Praise God I don't have to!!

Not sure what kind of hair gel it was but I heard once that Billy Idol put toothpaste in his to make it stiff.

Love the 80's. I had big hair and legwarmers and pink boots, and listened to all the vapid emptyheaded music. But I also drank a bit, so my memory of the decade may be a bit foggy in places.

Not too sure I would call what the 80's had "fashion"
I was kinda saved from the horror of old 80's pictures that show me in that "fashion"...my parents divorced in 1984 and my mom couldn't afford the "in" clothes...now I'm quite glad of that!

Let's see...the progression went like:
80-83= feathered hair that looked like a bird wing on the side of my head
84-85= parachute pants and half shirts (say you didnt wear them I dare ya!)
86-88= Coca-Cola clothes/glasses Hypercolors shirts (changed colors)
88-89= Girbaud and Z. Cavarricci
Most of you probably had this stuff way earlier than I did. I was like SirMax and had the broke up folks, so all these things didnt come until they were juuuuuuuuuuuust about out of style ( like the day before:D )

The 80's was more of a blur for me! I was busy getting married and raising kids. Couldn't afford cable so missed out on MTV. But I did get my kids some of the parachute pants. They were so cute! And my daughters had leg warmers. My youngest is wanting a pair, now. It all comes back around! Well, maybe not all of it!

Well, I happened to LOVE the 80's. I graduated elementary school in 82, Jr. High in 85 and high school in 88. I met my husband in 88 also. And the Petra concerts where AWSOME!!!! The bands (christian) in that time were so cool. It was such a great time to be in. The music was all about the message. Not like today. Today it's all about the money. I went to a reunion concert of 4 80's bands a year ago. 4-4-1, Altar Boys, Krombacher, and Undercover. It was the best. That same feeling of togetherness was there. It's hard to describe. I LOVED THE 80'S.

80 to 83 = N.ew W.ave O.f B.ritish M.etal hits huge in Europe and in England, and Standard Heavy Metal is born.
83 to 86 = Thrash Metal is born and Hair Fluff Crap takes center stage.
86 to 90 = Power Metal is born and Heavy Hard Rock takes center stage.
----------------------------------------------
80 to 83 = STAR WARS is still in full effect.
83 to 86 = G.I.*JOE, original Transformers, original 80's Dungeons and Dragons, and Robotech are in full effect.
86 to 90 = He-Man, Ghostbusters, She-Ra, and all things having to do with the Nintendo game system.
-----------------------------------------------
80 to 83 = Superman movies, STAR WARS movies, Indiana Jones movies, early Rocky movies, some fantasy movies like Krull, Conan, Red Sonja, Clash of the Titans, Never-ending Story Part 1, and others.
83 to 86 = Freaky and down-right weird SCI-FI. Stuff like Tron, Black Hole, Brazil, Alien, and many others. Horror movies: Stuff like Jason, Freddie, Michael Myers, Pinhead, Chucky, and many more. A lot of the kids TV shows started becoming movies around 1986. G.I.*JOE the movie, Transformers the Movie, He-Man became a movie, and a few others.
86 to 90 = Serious movies. You start to see a lot of drama and action movies come out during this time, and some cheesy and completely over-done movies too. Die Hard 1, Action Jackson, Willow, Karate Kid Part 2, many of the Star Trek movies, and the stupid Super Mario Brothers movie.
---------------------------------------------
80 to 83 = All kids were learning how to skateboard and skateboarding tricks.
83 to 86 = All kids were learning freestyle bicycling and bicycle tricks.
86 to 90 = All kids are playing the original Nintendo video game system.

... Hypercolors shirts (changed colors)
Hypercolor! I had/have a closet full of those... I've got two tees and a sweatshirt that no longer change colors, and a long sleeved tee and another sweatshirt that I picked up new on ebay that still do the color change thing. I remember when they were big when I was in high school, you'd be sitting in class and constantly would hear people huffing on the sleeves of their hypercolor shirts to make them change colors. Drove the teachers crazy.

It was Armeggedon in almost every episode.
Robotech was so much more violent than original Transformers ever were.
Transformers the Movie was super violent, but about on the same level as most Robotech shows.

OH LORDY! That New Kids on the Block video is classic.
Not only did the 80's lack fashion but there was so little substance in music too. You know, "Money for nothing and chicks for free", "video killed the radio star" and all that.
I went underground and started listening to more jazz and bllues then because the radio was horrible.
Even Christian radio was in its infancy but gaining ground in Orlando where I lived at the time. LOVED Petra, Degarmo & Key, Mylon Lefevere, Keith Green, and Steve Taylor, AD, Whiteheart, Smitty, and I am missing someone.
Oh yeah...that was the era that brought me Stevie Ray Vaughn. Sigh...1985 Montreaux Jazz Festival, when the 80's almost made sense again.

Actually, that song has lots of substance. Mark Knopfler is a very intelligent, thoughtful writer and premier guitarist. He wrote that song to make fun of someone whom he overheard saying that artists do not deserve success for their creations. The person saying this happened to be an appliance deliveryman in a department store. The song is from that knucklehead's perspective, using his words. It was brilliant, because Knopfler didn't have to criticize the guy or call him names. He let the guy's own words speak for themselves.

That was exactly my point. The 80's music scene has so little to brag about. They lost perspective. I am so grateful for satellite and Internet radio because I feel the same way now about our radio broadcasting.
