So are they going to do a Greatest Hits Tour???

Hmmmm....haven't they done this sorta with the Offerings live tracks?

If ‘Innocent’ and ‘Rise Up’ and ‘King of Glory’ are not on there, then it’s not their “Greatest hits” collection plain and simple..

I wonder if the Best of is going to depend on the air time of the song?

There is a difference between "Greatest Hits" and "Best Of". "Greatest Hits" are just that, hits. I would guess that those are usually decided by the record company, based on sales/airplay. "Best Of" is going to get you the band/fan favorites. "Consuming Fire", or "Theif", may not be "Hits", since they came about so early, and may very well have not been given much airplay, but they are top of the list on a "Best Of" collection.

At least that's how I look at it..

PS I just saw a Best of Styx CD and Crystal Ball was on there...I dont remember it being a highly played song yet I think its one of the best songs so hey no telling what might be on this best of... maybe it wont be just the top hits.

That would be nice, considering that I became a fan just after Wire came out. By then they probably had people that picked out their wardrobes for them. I haven't gotten around to surfing the internet to see what kind of "no fashion" Tai was chuckling about. I'm too lazy.;)

I've been thinking...Third Day has been doing this for quite a while now. However, since all of the guys are family men; I see this as being the last thing for a while. I can almost feel it coming. I'm thinking the guys are going to take a break in the near future and maybe work on songwriting, or producing for other artists. Maybe just being "dad" far a year or so.
Perhaps this collection is to satiate us "psycho fans" :p while the guys take some much needed (and much deserved) time off.
What do y'all think about that?

You could be right, but I don't think so. I read a recent article by Mac (I tried to find it for ya, but I couldn't) and he talked about a bunch of stuff. One thing he said was that when they started, they didn't think about or want to be doing this for like 20-25 years, but he said that they are halfway to that now, and in his words, "They don't feel like stoppin." I like the sound of that. :D

Third Day tend to tour a lot one year, and then have a lighter schedule the next. This year will have fewer concerts, if they follow that pattern.

Third Day has 24 hit songs. CDs generally have about 12 songs on them. If this is a "Greatest Hits" CD collection, that's what will be on it, 12 and 12. Maybe after they do this, they can do a "Fan Favorite" collection, which isn't hte same as their greatest hits.

Cross Canadian Ragweed did a "Fan Favorite" collection called "Back to Tulsa." Im sure other bands have done this as well, i know Thirdday dosen't like to follow trends, but a "fan record" would be a nice treat. I would love to hear "faith, hope, love" song on the contagious album re-cut

No...yea...but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I'd love to see some of the songs they don't do anymore on there...Gomer's Theme!!! Peace, Alien, NEVER BOW DOWN, Believe (from Time), Give Me a Reason, More to This, Who I Am, Your Love Endures Forever, Longtime Coming and Underwater from Southern Tracks, Carry Me Home, I Got You, 40 Days...ok, that's way more than anyone cares to hear...but I got carried away!

Most of the time Best Ofs or Greatest Hits or whatever you wish to call them will have at least one, usually two, previously unreleased tracks to get fans that already have all the songs to buy the cd. I would expect at least 1 new song per cd.

I'd personally rather see a remastered version of Conspiracy No. 5 or Contagious than a compilation album like this: usually, such an album is a sign that a band's best days are in the past, they're not coming out with new material, and the record company wants to keep making money off the fans. I'm not saying that's the case here, but I still don't like compilation albums for that reason. They just seem like bad omens even if they're not.

I am looking forward to better quality versions of some of the older songs though, if they do record them fresh.

I'm thinking it won't be just the hits because of the name of the CDs. Chronology implies a time line of sorts. A Third Day time line without songs from Long Time Forgotten and Contagious would be incomplete.

I'm thinking that this thing may be a DVD with possibly an audio Cd as well, sort of like Live Wire. Two reasons;

1 Go to the blog and check out the link for tbs storyline. One of the video links has Tai and Mac discussing the new project. They say something about Mac being embarrased when they were looking at some old footage of themselves and Tai tells Mac he has to get past all of that because it (the old stuff) is just part of the story. Old video footage? Maybe a DVD!

2 On either Google video or You tube (sorry I can't remember) I saw a video the other day of the guys going down the road on the tour bus. David is sort of narrating and says they are watching some old video footage of themselves when they were opening for someone else about ten years ago (maybe more, my memory fails me).

I'm sure the guys have probably recorded every concert they have done and done some filming at quite a few as well. I'm thinking maybe they are trying to put together a DVD of some concert footage in chronological order of some of their best songs ranging from they early days to the present. An audio CD of the music would be great to go along with it. I just don't see the guys putting out a "greatest hits" CD. Most of us already have ALL of their CDs and that would be useless to alot of the fans! I'm sure they have something up their sleeve. I just can't wait to find out what it is!:D

I wish they would prayerfully consider adding "May Your Wonders Never Cease." They never play it live because I can't yell fast enough to get all the syllables heard correctly. (I had to just give up on "Innocent" because when requesting that song live I just got strange looks like I was denying my guilt about something.)

This could be a chance for this song to become one of their new hits.

Seriously.

I mean I know somebody in Ft Worth who would personally call KLTY every day to request it.

Just knowing that it's this type of project rather than just a compilation CD as we'd originally feared is what most people are primarily excited about, I think. Certainly, there are specific songs that people are looking forward to, but this looks like it'll be a good release even if minor changes happen.

The Offerings CDs were half new stuff, anyway...

I think it's the old video footage on the DVD that is the novelty here. Remixes of some of their old songs don't hurt either. It would be nice to have a few new items on there, but... at least it's not just a collection of exact copies of previously released material. Not sure why there'll be two separate albums though. Hopefully the second one has new material or something.

Jason, didn't Cadmon's call do this? I remember hearing the "Thankful" remix and thinking "there is nothing new about this except a longer instrumental part."

I will not roll my eyes... I will not roll my eyes... I will no-- 81043

Darn, sorry, it just slipped out. ;)

Let's see... 17 tracks...5 remixes, 4 new versions... so more than half the CD is either remixes or new versions. And out of the remaining 8 unchanged studio songs, at least one was already remixed once (unless I'm mistaken; Nothin' At All is the one that had some sort of rock remix on the Alien single, didn't it?), and two are from Southern Tracks, which a lot of people don't actually HAVE on CD yet.

PLUS a DVD with really old archive concert footage dating back to 1993? Works for ME!

The only song I personally would replace if I had a choice, is Have Mercy. I tend to skip right over that one each time I play that CD.

Yup, I got pulled over once listening to "Have Mercy". The state trooper was not amused.LOL. I got pulled over while I was jamming to 3D too, it was my first time driving after my first 3D show on the Live Wire tour, and I was still pretty hyped up. NOT so hyped up that I didn't know that I HADN'T actually been speeding - well, unless you want to call 29 in a 25 "speeding" worthy of a ticket - that they actually DID pull me over to help fill a quota that night (it was right after halloween and there'd been complaints in the neighborhood of people driving too fast, so the cops were just there pulling people over right and left regardless of whether they actually WERE speeding or not just to say "see, we listened to your complaints, look how many 'speeders' we pulled over tonight!").

Went to court three times over it, and lost essentially 8 hours worth of work in the process, until I they realized that I was NOT going roll over and just pay it, and they finally dismissed it. Nyah on them. "I'm Noko Marie, don't mess with me..." ;)

Had I NOT been jamming to 3D at the time, I probably would have seen the cop on the side street in enough time to slow down the  4mph I was going over the speed limit to avoid getting written up.

The first album is 1996-2000. The second album will be 2001-2006.

I wouldn't count those songs out just yet. ;)

Nice to see it’s not just a radio “best of” type of thing. I’m sure the video footage is going to spawn all sorts of threads commenting on how the kids looked as they were just getting started.

Now, if we could just get someone from the Third Day team to come announce it to the fans on their own fans site, rather than every other website, it would make this non-internet trolling, Google searching, drop what you’re doing “DING”, fan very pleased…

I wouldn't count those songs out just yet. ;)That's right, someone said that the tracklist wasn't set in concrete, that it WAS subject to change.

That would be a nice change, to see some of the REALLY early tracks on there. And at the right speed. (I play the LTF tape back on my tapedeck, and it tends to play back a little fast, so Mac sounds a little "Alvin and the Chipmunk-y" when he's singing. :p )

And for the record, I think the CD covers are very cool. They have this "aged" feel to them, just right for a project like this. :)

I'm just excited to get a two new cds from the guys! No matter what is on em, I'm still gonna buy it. Some bands go 2 years without releasing anything. The guys have been working hard, give them they're do! All the nay-sayers need to lightening up a bit. The cds are gonna rock don't worry. That why we love Third day, they always do.

With every new CD, there are nay-sayers. I don't understand that, but I tend to have a positive attitude about everything. Some people expect the worst in everything. And I tend to trust people who have shown themselves to be trustworthy. Third Day hasn't let me down yet, I trust they won't this time either. :)

I guess I fall into the category of any CD is a good CD. *shrugs* Why the angst?

I'm hoping for maybe a new song or two that I haven't heard but I'll probably go ahead and buy the CDs anyway even if it's all stuff from albums I already have.

I just think it's weird that so many people have been posting, asking for a greatest hits project. Now that the guys are releasing that project, people are complaining about it. Just proves that you can't please everybody.

I agree with you. They haven't let me know with any of their CDs. Each one has just seemed right at the time. And, ten years later, their older stuff still sounds good. So, I'm looking forward to hearing the remixes, too. Of course, my fave song is on Conspiracy. I've heard remixes of it.

I think it's good sometimes to take a step back and look at the journey that has led you to where you are. It really shows us what God has done for us. Musically, it's really cool to look back a band's journey and how much they have grown. Third Day's sound has matured so much over the last ten years. It will be cool to hear the new sound applied to some of the older songs. I also look forward to the next decade. :)

Well said, Corrine! I will say again I'm glad that for the most part this is not just a greatest hits project with the same version of songs I already have. I'm really excited about the remixes and the DVD stuff. I love everything the guys have put out. If they were to record "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" I would probably buy it!:p :p :p

Since Vol 1 has DVD 'extra' material which seems to span past 2000, wonder if Vol 2 will have unreleased song 'extra' material? Maybe like Jennifer Knapps 'best of' collection, a 2nd disc of demos, rarities and maybe a couple of tracks from their pre-label days, even if a DVD this could easily be done (and would be very cool)...
