At the end of the song, if you listen well enough, you can hear Mac belching then saying "I'm not much of a giggler man". This has bugged me for years. Was this intentionally done? Was this something that somehow missed editing then decided to leave it? I can't be the only one wondering.

It's not belching. He's laughing.

It was probably THAT part of the song that actually made me go out and buy the Bus CD. Yes the song was great, but the outtake at the end, even after just hearing the one song, gave the band a personality. Usually it takes a while to get a feel for a band; listen to the album, read several interviews, listen some more, and you sort of get a feel of what a band it all about.
The "I'm not much of a giggler, man" outtake at the end of "Forever" said VOLUMES about Third Day, even just after that one song. So I got the Bus CD, and well, never looked back. :)

I don't know if that story's been told before, so if you heard this, my apologies. Somebody from our record company was in the studio that day and wanted Mac to laugh at the end of the song. I think it was taking Mac more takes to try to nail the laugh at the end than it was to record the whole vocal for the song. Finally, he just said "I'm not much of a giggler." And the same record company person thought it would be funny to leave that on there. True story:p

Never heard that story before. Thanks for sharing it! I'm not sure if it makes me appreciate it more because I can now picture what was going on, or if knowing ruined the percieved spontaneity of it. Either way, I'm glad I know. :)

My question is why is Mark Lee up at this hour of the morning!! ;)

Thanks for telling me about that Mark. I've been enjoying your band for years. You guys have a special gift and IMO are one of the leading bands in the Christian Music world today. Think we can get Mac to let a good belch go at the end of a new song you guys are making? It would be awesome!

This is just another example of how down to earth and real the guys from Third Day are. Mark takes the time to write a blog for all the fans to enjoy and then responds to a question that was just posted! Being a fan of this band is SO easy.......

...And the same record company person thought it would be funny to leave that on there. True story:pAhhh, so it was actually the record company guy's attitude that I liked, then. My mistake. Send all the Third Day CDs back. :p ;)

Thanks for the story Mark.

This thread is making me laugh and grimace at the same time. It's my inner child fighting it out with my outter mom. :p I guess all this belching so comfortably on here really does mean we are family. :p

BTW - that's not a belch. It's the Leslie cabinet for the organ. We do have some manners around these parts, you know :p

I've just listened to that little 'sound' over and over and I'm not gonna say what I think it is, but it sure sounds like whoever it was (this Leslie* or whoever  ;) ) doesn't have any manners at all.
Sandra - I do have manners, just not on Fridays when the LJ family have our traditional Burgers and Belches meal. I figured that with 4 males in the house we had to relax the rules once a week, so on Fridays we have fizzy/pop with our meal (I cook the burgers) and we do not excuse ourselves when we belch ... actually it's encouraged!
*maybe Leslie Organ was the studio manager's dog's name :p -- kinda sad that dogs get blamed for it all the time ;)

Remind me not to visit you on a Friday.
Third Day also need to record without being under the influence of Burgers and Coke. :p

Sharon is fully agreeable with the arrangment, cos it means we gotta be polite the rest of the week. We've been doing it most weeks for over 8 years now.

Again Mark, thanks for answering my question. But even if that noise at the end isn't a belch, it really does sound like one LOL. Also, since I know you're reading, just want to say "Cry out to Jesus" has touched me deeply for many reasons. I know you guys get feedback like this all the time and keeping up with your tour dates and new things you've got to do keeps you really busy (and tired), but from a die hard Third Day fan and a life long christian, I just want to say thank you to you and the rest of your band for blessing our lives with your music.

Yes, it was left on intentionally, however it wasn't choreographed or anything. When cutting vocals, Mac, (just like any other singer) would converse back and forth with us in the control room. Brad had put down a kind of funky rhythm track, that Mac really wasn't to sure about when he heard it by itself. Brad was acting kind of goofy during the vocal tracks and we were all laughing to some degree. Mac could see us from the studio, and just said that at the end of the cut. During the mix we just kept hearing that every time at the end of the song, and got used to it, so I left it.
