In the interest of including all different kinds of books as part of the club, I have long been looking for books with a political angle or a sports angle. Lo and behold, I come across this.

"The Courage to Run (http://www.amazon.com/Courage-Run-Jim-Ryun/dp/0830739084/sr=8-3/qid=1162353349/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/002-3419035-7300846?ie=UTF8&s=books)" was written by Congressman Jim Ryun from Kansas, with the able help of his sons Drew and Ned. Jim Ryun was a U.S. track star in the '60's. He won a silver medal in the Olympics, and held several records, most famously the high school mile, which was only recently broken by up and comer Alan Webb.

This should be a fairly easy read, as it's a selection of devotional type pieces. Also I hope it ends up being a refreshing change of pace from the fare we've been reading around here as of late.

I'm not sure how easy this will be to find, and I apologize for my tardiness in letting you know about it. We just might let this one slide over into December a bit :)

Happy Halloween and happy reading!

O.K. Going to look for it online now. I'll have to see if Barnes & Noble has a copy.

I'm reading "The Screwtape Letters" so I'd better hurry up and finish that one. LOL

ROFL. Maybe, but I haven't got the book yet. LOL

I'm actually in the middle of "The Screwtape Letters". I need to finish it soon.

I went right by Barnes and Noble yesterday and didn't find the book. Then I couldn't remember how to spell the last name. I had an extra letter in it, so I never found out if they had it. I bought "A Severe Mercy" because I read it long ago and loved the book.

I may go out and get the book this evening, though.

After I wrote that, I have worried that I may have hurt your feelings. You are such a fast reader (at least compared to me). I think it's great that you are and I wish I was. So all the things I have said about you being so quick are because of my JEALOUSY!! -that is in a loving Christian way of course. So you keep reading girl. And I pray this time you are not done early because of illness!

So there are 60 devotions. Are we reading this devotion style into December or just reading it straight through but don't get into a hurry?

Details, I have to have detailed instructions!!!:D

The Barnes & Noble here doesn't have it and it will take 5-6 days if they order it for me. I'm going to see if it is in the Christian bookstore (I know a long shot) and if not, then I'll likely order it tomorrow afternoon.
No head starts this time around. LOL

You rang?;)

I was very careful how I spelled that so I didn't overstep the YIPPY-ness. You are too funny. Well, while we are at it, did you get the book? Am I ahead of you?

I think I am on day 4 now. Which doesn't do anyone any good.

Since it looks like there's a little difficulty finding the book, we'll give everybody a little grace period this time around. December's book will be easy and fun :)

Maybe since it's 60 devotions, we can just sort of discuss it along the way...

Whew!!

I'm having a bit of trouble finding the book myself. It's not at any of the local libraries.:(

Will continue to look before ordering.

Both Barnes & Noble and Lifeway will order the book, but do not have it on the shelves here. It's also on Amazon, but I figured with shipping there wouldn't be much difference so I ordered it from Lifeway. It really should be here so I'm going to see if it's in tomorrow.

I will be off work at least a couple of days due to a biopsy, so I might need something to do when I'm not trying to sleep through it as I can't do much else for a couple of days. LOL

Let's discuss the book The Courage to Run by Jim Ryun. Feel free to comment on the devotions as you read them.:)

I am currently on Day 17 of the book. I could just read it straight through, but I've been trying to read all of the scripture passages along with it. It's odd... some of the entries I've read similar things so many times that they almost seem trite, but other entries blow me away. I was really moved by Day 15 in particular so far.

I blogged about it here, if anyone is interested:
