:) Hi all,
What with all that is happening in the world at the moment, I think now is a great time to discuss this. It's been on my heart to do some kind of mission type work - serving really, in a country less fortunate than mine (aus) and yours. I work in child care and have a real heart for children, so would love to do some kind of work in this area. However, I have looked into it in the past and drawn a blank (God closing doors ??).
Anyway, I guess I am seeking advice from anyone who has done this kind of thing about how to get into it or even looking to find out if there is anyone here who may be organising something in the future sometime.
It might be cool to do a Gomer outreach trip!! - just an idea.

Anyway, please let me know.
Also will post in Aussie gomer section.

There are many opportunities all around the world - by mission - do you mean a short term mission trip or to leave your country and go live in another country? Two different things really. :) Good on you for wanting to use what you have to serve the Lord.

Missionaries from my church have started orphanages in both Burkina Faso (http://www.sheltering-wings.org/) (W Africa) - they could always use help there, but it's certainly not easy - and also support one in Brazil. Then, we have a family with Wycliffe in PNG, a guy in Turkey, and a girl in Guatemala. We also support a guy in the Phillipines that teaches native pastors about agriculture, and many others. That's just from one church. There are missionary opportunities in all parts of the world.

If you really have a heart for children, an orphanage might be a good fit, as Jason suggested. Whether it's in Africa, Romania/other parts of Europe, South America, Asia, the South Pacific (much closer for you), etc., that might be worth looking into. Of course, it goes without saying you should pray about it and go where God leads.

As for a Gomer mission trip... give it time. It's an interesting idea, and down the road, after some time for the idea to develop and for planning, it could be a possibility.
