There is no excuse for this. CNN should yank Nancy Grace off the air.

Rofl!
During the moment when Nancy asks
GRACE: It`s hard to expect a little 14-year-old girl to react the way an adult might imagine they would react under those circumstances. You were afraid, I assume.
ELIZABETH SMART: Yes.
(Around in the middle of the video)
The look on Smart's face is priceless.

The look on Smart's face is priceless.
That it is. Smart did a good job of putting Nancy Grace back in her place there. Of course, Grace's melodramatic fake compassion is so sickening that I don't see how someone so annoying got on the air in the first place...

Stupid woman! She's not even behaving like a proper human being even! Just wanted all the gory details by the sound of it!

Just so I understand something.. This person is trying to use Nancy to push her personal agenda (Bill through Congress) and y’all get peeved because Nancy is a moron and doesn’t “get it” and tries to go National Enquirer on her?
Am I the only one who thinks that is the price you pay for playing with the devil.
You want to use the media for whatever reason and sometimes you get stung.
Try Larry King next time.. I hear you can supply him with the list of appropriate questions beforehand just like Hillary..;)

Yes, you have it straight. It is OK to use the media to accomplish something good.
And I never said Nancy Grace didn't "get it". She got it. She knew what she was doing.

Oh I have doubt that Nancy will pay a price for her interview, but then who is Nancy?? Until now I never even heard of her..
Nancy probably was letting the kid know she’s in the big leagues now, and no more puff pieces. You want to play politics and be a spokes person… you get grilled.
Or Nancy is just losing it and it’s time for a sabbatical.
Does anyone know what law, or what changes, Ms. Smart is promoting? Is it a real change in the laws or just another political doily to make things look better?

From this page (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=2205513&page=1):
The proposed bill would make it a crime for sex offenders not to register with their state and would require states to share information when an offender moved to a new state.
It passed the House on a voice vote in March and has broad support, but has been delayed because Democratic members say it should include hate crimes legislation opposed by Republican leaders.
Sounds like it effectively makes a Federal crime of what are already state crimes in most places, and forces states to share information.
Certainly, Ms. Smart should've known what she was getting into, but if the interview was supposed to be about the legislation, and this woman just seemed to want the details of her abduction 4 years ago, I can't blame her for putting a stop to that line of questions. And Ms. Grace, whomever she is (I've also never heard of her prior to this), was quite obnoxious. I don't think she was a moron, just tacky (to be expected of the media) and demeaning. It just was entertaining to see Elizabeth Smart smack down a member of the media for doing what they always do.
Eh I've always thought Nancy was a little "out there."

Thanks.. and good for her... (can't watch the vids at work) so I'm going off your replays..

Rob, you really need to watch the vid before you comment further. The point is not the questions she asked -- reading the interview is nothing like seeing it. The way the questions were posed was like a SNL skit mocking news reporters trying to play up other peoples pain for ratings.

And how has no one pointed out the part where she asked her in all earnest how she could see in the burka? The whole thing seemed like a parody.

Good for Elizabeth Smart! Good for her that she put Nancy Grace in place!
Nancy Grace drives me insane...she's so FAKE and overly dramatic. *insert puking smiley here* She needs some cheezy Ricki Lake rip-off daytime show, where she talks to cheating spouses and what not. I think that would suit her better.
I'm glad I changed the chanel when this show was coming on...I might have thrown something and broke my TV. :p

I guess what I was trying to convey was not treating this poor helpless girl like some baby that we needed to defend. If the reporter made a fool of herself than that’s great. If Ms. Smart did fine… even better.
It just looked like comments where of a defensive nature because she wasn’t being treated like a victim and handled with special care.
Maybe this episode will cure that paparazzi/National Enquirer type of reporting for a while..just a little… maybe…
I'll check it out when I get home... sounds like it will be good for a laugh..

It was more that she was being treated too much like a victim (in a dramatically overdone, patronizing way) and the supposed topic of the interview was being ignored. The reporter made a fool of herself, then Smart drove the point home.

Thanks to her goof up on the out-dated so 90's TV, yes. But that's only because Intarwebs have to keep track of these old fogies and how they go about their traditional means of communication. You saw how on the ball these internets were. I mean, it happened on TV and BAM! there it was. On the internet. Message boards going crazy about it, emails shooting right and left, bandwidth begging for help. It's crazy.

OK… now that I’ve been able to watch it..
The “professional newsperson” is acting like a high school girl trying to get her buddy to tell all in a truth or dare moment… just pathetic.
You guys are right.. the look is priceless!!! Had Nancy had any sense of anything she would have seen that and changed topics..
To think that station probably pays her in some disgusting high 6 figure range to do that ..
Very nice job by Ms. Smart.. she handled that very maturely great job..
oh... what's TV??;)

Told you you had to SEE it. That was just... I want to say horrible -- but not in the tragic sense -- more or a moronic sense.

Speaking of TV, my bro's gonna be in an interview tonight on MTV at 8 est. about the war in Iraq. You can see some of the interview on ifilm (http://www.ifilm.com/). Titled "Killer Footage: Iraq Uploaded" it's the third one down the list.
See? the internets win again!
(I know it's off topic but I had to tell someone and don't feel like making a new thread!)

ok you were right..*cough*;) :p
I don't think I've ever seen an interview of anyone be so horribly bad, it really lacks comparison. She's got to be facing some sort of “time off" for that...
Has Nancy ever been a real journalist and not just another a tabloid info babe?

I caught that. I haven't watched the video, but that seems like the most parody-like moment in the transcript. It was from way outside of left-field.
