What do you think of this?

New Batwoman is a lesbian

Editor: 'We decided to give her a different point of view'

The new Batwoman is "a more unique personality than others in the Bat-family," says a DC Comics editor.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Years after she first emerged from the Batcave, Batwoman is coming out of the closet.

DC Comics is resurrecting the classic comic book character as a lesbian, unveiling the new Batwoman in July as part of an ongoing weekly series that began this year. The 5-foot-10 superhero comes with flowing red hair, knee-high red boots with spiked heels, and a form-fitting black outfit.

Hmmmmmm, couldn't care one way or the other. I don't read comic books, and if I did, and this horribly offended me, I simply wouldn't by the comic. However, it is going to be fun to sit back and watch this thread digress to depths you cannot imagine. Don't take it personally when your thread strays from it's original subject to those of abortion, first amendment rights, the Nazi Bush administration, military protesters, and just about anything else you can throw in.;)

Such a nice way to preempt me from hijacking the thread huh?

Ack. That's not what I was anticipating and/or wanting.

I'm not a comic-reader, either, but several of my friends are, and I do like the Batman movies. I guess I don't understand the purpose of making her a lesbian, will it increase sales? Is it another step in the push for "diversity"?

Man, I couldn't pass that up. So many people take it pesonal when their thread get's hijacked, Just thought I'd pass along some advise. I started reading the the protest thread, how did it end, (nevermind, I know how) up on that subject, and the adoption issue. You just have to shake your head sometimes, huh?:D

Clearly you don't follow these boards enough. It's pretty obvious why they made her a lesbian.................. ............So, JesusLove could start a thread and blame their act on the current administraion, except you beat him to it.

pay the knaves no heed...

this is clearly a movement by the corporate man to shift our focus from their tax breaks and great evil and put it on the hot topic of homosexuality. let not our resolve melt in the heat of battle. stay the course my fellow americans. the corporation is the true enemy. be not swayed nor confused by his tactics.

In one of the stories I read this morning, that's what they said. They have a year-long campaign where they have various superheroes re-invented as Mexican, Asian, black, etc.

It's really not that surprising, actually. It's more surprising that it hasn't happened sooner.

if you make a new character you have to create a whole new fan base... if you alter a character the fan base already exists.

Batwoman (not to be confused with Batgirl, Commish Gordon's Daughter) hasn't really been used in almost 30 some years..

Besides every now and again Comic Books shake things up and start retelling origion stories and such... Basicly their version of a remake...

There was a show on TV a few years ago called "Birds of Prey". It was about Oracle (Barbara Gordon), Huntress (Selina Kyle, Catwoman, and Bruce Wayne's daughter) and Canary's daughter. It only lasted a few episodes, but it was very good.

Is this a comic book, show or movie?
If it's a comic book, my guess is either shock value or for sales (maybe both). Actually, that's my guess for the motive regardless of the medium.

Honestly, what sells the most right now are two things. Christian stuff, and stuff that attacks Christians. Think of the huge publicity and support that End of the Spear and the Passion got. Think about DaVinci code and the Omen. Either way, they get support from one side, and added attention from the other.

Not far fetched at all. Marketing departments and firms get good money to determine these things, and this may very well be the fact that they are trying to jump into what's hot on the market. Just as I've noticed that the Omen opens up on 06-06-06, and the final book in the Left Behind Prequal goes on the shelf on 06-06-06.
