Yep, this is the Jaguar XJ220, but its not the original model. It is in fact the XJ220 TWR. Modified by Tom Walkinshaw Racing this car is absolute missile. With a twin-turbo V6 it produced 680bhp and 714nm of torque! It weiged just over a tonne and could catapult from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds. Top speed was nearly 370km/h. Not bad for a car built in 1994! :D
Sweet car! Awesome videos of that amphibious Fiat too, HotWireD! Here's a compact car that may or may not be easy: (It's kinda small, cuz it wouldnt put it on here when I enlarged it, sorry.)

My first impression is the Daihatsu Terios, but I cannot be sure without a look at the front.

Aussie3rddayfan
08-01-2006, 06:47 AM
...and the name of the car was inspired by an Italian physicist who is famous for his development of the electric battery. It was built in conjuction with Italian design company Italdesign Giugiaro and was unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show.
The car was built on a carbon fiber chassis and features a four wheel drive hybrid powertrain of the Lexus RX 400h which combines a 3.3-litre V6 gasoline engine with two electric engines. The gasoline engine is fitted behind the rear axle and there are additional two electrically powered engines, one on each axle. The combination develops a maximum output of 300 kW (408 bhp), which enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.03 seconds and reach the top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The car seats three people abreast and features drive-by-wire controls.

It was a while ago. I would have been in primary school at the time. I believe he worked in the parts department. Sometimes he brought home some rather nice, shiny new Mercedes' to use for a while. If I remember correctly we once went on holiday to Canberra in a big red C-class; or maybe it was an S-class. One of the perks for working for one of the greatest car manufacturers in the world!

Sorry to burst your bubble, Aussie, but yes, the F-1 Car is a Renault. I have the proof! See for yourself:
Well, I took your picture, and loaded it onto my computer, and zoomed in on the nose of the car, so you could more clearly see the word "Renalult" at the tip of the nose, right under the word "elf" You can zoom in for yourself, and clearly see that it is indeed a Renault F-1 car.

Most Formula One manufacturer's both past and present have their engines provided by another company. For example, the McLaren F1 team has a Mercedes engine, the Red Bull team has a Ferrari engine in it and Williams has a Cosworth engine - and next year it will have a Toyota engine. Only Ferrari, Toyota, Honda and Renault curently make their own engines as well as making the car itself. These teams are called factory teams.
The upshot of it all is that this car IS NOT A RENAULT!!! It has a Renault engine - hence the advertisement badge - but the car is made by another car manufacturer. :D
When you work this car out I will find the hardest one I have posted yet.

No, it is not Schumacher. Michael may have the most wins, poles, lap records and championships but he not necassarily regarded as the best in raw speed. That honour goes to a man from Brazil named Ayrton Senna. He drove for several teams during the eigthies to mid nineties. His career was sadly cut short in a horrific accident at the Imola Circuit in San Marino in 1994. The steering arm on his car broke and he no way to avoid carrering into a tyre barrier head-on at over 200km/h. That same weekend, another driver by the name of Roland Ratzenberger was also killed. The weekend is regarded as one of the blakest days in the sports history. Today, the circuit has been changed and a large chicane now stands where Senna left the track (Turn One). The differnce is very noticable:

AFTER
Anyway, after the F1 histroy lesson (can you tell I love it!) the car I posted was a 1986 JPS Lotus F1 car driven Ayrton Senna. As I noted earlier, the car had a Renault engine, but the car itself and all its mechanicles were of lotus origin. The black and gold design was very distinctive for that time.
As for a new car, I have some real tricky models of yesteryear lined-up. My dad has a rather nice collection of small model cars (extremely detailed and well made) which I have too chose from so i will post one when I get home tonight. :D
BTW, as a car fan its your duty to watch and love the F1's! The most recent race (in Hungary) was one of THE best and most exciting races I have ever seen. It rained; so there was lots of sliding, crashing, and contemplating the correct or incorrect tyre choices as it rained, then didn't, then did, the dried out. It is the best form of motor racing in the world - hands down - totally riveting TV!

Thanks for the "History Lesson" on F-1, it was interesting! However, here in the States, they dont show much F-1 or Indy type races, unfortunately. Unless you get expensive sattelite TV, but we cant afford what it costs per month (Anywhere from $100-$200 per month), so I cant see any F-1 races. I watch NASCAR racess, cuz that's the only kinda racing I can get with basic cable. In case ya dont know what NASCAR is, it was formed in the 1940's in Daytona Beach, Florida, by local dirt track racers, who took cars straight of the showroom floor, and raced at an annual race on the sands of the beach at Daytona Beach, Florida. The group choose the name NASCAR, for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. The president of the group, Bill France Sr., later built a paved oval track about 2.5 miles in length, which is now known as Daytona International Speedway, and is used for NASCAR, as well as the 24-Hours of Daytona LeMans race. NASCAR has been the #2 most popular sport in the U.S. for several years now, behind football. Anyway, please post another car soon, and thanks for the cool info on the history of F-1!

Talking about beautiful cars I have had a VERY interesting few days driving on the road. I have a sharp-eye for exotic cars on the road. Just yesterday I spooted a Lotus Elise, not one but two current model 997 Porsche 991's and a Ferrari 355 GTS. Last Sunday I spotted a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and earlier in the week I managed to merge in front of a brand-spanking new, bright red Ferrari F430 Spyder. I followed behind me for nearly 25 km and then I ver kindly moved over so I could gawk at it from the back for a while. I can tell you that I was definately looking in my rear-vision mirror more than normal! Ferrari's are even more stunning in real-life and absolutely made my day! :D :D :D
Unfortunately he did not pull up beside me at the lights; I could have taken him.....

I will just tell you what it is: A 1949 Lagonda Aston Martin Drophead Coupe (http://lagonda.tripod.com/) (Looks like a convertible to me, though, so why do they call it a coupe? ) Hard, huh? It is now HotWireD's turn to post.

Comparing the 1966 Amazon with the ****** ** police car he drives today, Woodward says: “The Amazon was a bit slow, so the engines were souped up a little, which gave the car a top speed of 112 mph — fast for that era.
“But today’s ********* police cars can carry a full load of equipment — 12 traffic cones, six Police Accident signs, first aid kit and major incident box — without comprising performance or handling.”
He adds: “The Amazon’s seats are remarkably comfortable — they would put some modern car seats to shame.”
Other forces throughout the UK often preserve faithful old vehicles, and you’ll find them displayed in police museums up and down the country

No, it is not any of thoose. This maker is a botique manufacturer that was started by former Aston Martin head designer, Henrik Fisker. The car is the Fisker Toromanto. Everything except the body is the underpinnings and mechanicals from a Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG, but the body is designed by Henrik Fisker himself. They also have another car based off of the BMW M6 Coupe. Fisker's cars are very beautifull, luxurious and fast.

Nope. But you ARE on the right track with the Mustang. Sought of. This car was the European equivalent of the Mustang and was built from 1969-1987. Nearly 1.9 million were made. Engines varied over time from a 1.3 litre 4-cyclinder in the cars early days to a 3.0 litre V6 by the time production ceased. It was the Grand Tourer for the everyday man.

Ok, here's a big clue: Believe it or not, it's actually a Mercury, made in the late 80's-early 90's, and I believe it was only sold in the United States. It was basically a Mazda MX-5 type car, small 4 cylinder, low weight, roadster etc. It was based on the small Mustang platform that was used from the 1970's untill the early 1990's. Yeah, my dad is a Jr. fan bigtime (Makes for an interesting in house rivalry every time we watch a race together, lol! My dad and I have also had the major blessing of getting tickets to Talledega 3 times in the past 4 years, becasue DuPont is one of the suppliers to Mead (My dad works at the Mead paper mill in Cottonton, Al.), and once every year, they gave some employees (My dad included) free tickets to whatever race they wanted. Sadly, the company's policies changed last year, adn the employees can no longer get freebees, so I dont think my dad and I will ever get to go to a NASCAR race again.:( Each ticket was about $120, so the only reason we got to go at all was because the tickets were free.

Sadly, the company's policies changed last year, adn the employees can no longer get freebees, so I dont think my dad and I will ever get to go to a NASCAR race again.:( Each ticket was about $120, so the only reason we got to go at all was because the tickets were free.
Have you guessed the car yet? It's hard, isnt it?
Cool beans! I've never been to one. That's too bad they don't give the tickets anymore. My mom likes Ward Burton. :p My dad's fave was Dale Sr., but now he likes several different ones.
Yah, it is hard...no guesses here yet! :p

Since Aussie3rdDayFan may not see this, due to it being so many posts back, I will repost this so Aussie can see what car he is trying to guess.
Oh yeah, I forgot about U.S. cars being your weak point, so here's a car that's made in Germany, which is a little closer to your homeland:

Is Aussie ever going to try to guess this old Australlian-made car?

OK, while I am searching I will tell you what I already know of this car. 1. You tell me its German but Australian made? 2. Its a coupe 3. It probably has a 4-cylinder in it and is RWD. 4. It was made around the 70's 5. And it's not a Torana or a Gemini.
EDIT: I am thinking it is the Datsun 180B SSS 610 Series?

Aussie, your car, is the wickedly powerfull and good-looking Holden VE SS Commodore (That's the only name I have seen, I may have gotten the trim level wrong.) There is actually much speculation right now in the U. S. over whether or not GM will import this car to America and sell it as the next Pontiac Grand Prix, or maybe even the next Chevrolet Impala. I dont care what brand it's sold under, as long as GM brings this bad boy here to the US!!!!
It is now Splash's turn to post a car. Make it a hard one, Splash!

Reply as you would to any other thread EXCEPT:
1. Click on the yellowish button with the picture of the mountains of it. It can be found on the same row as the bold, underline, italics etc.
2. This will open up a window which you must enter in the URL of website the picture is located
3. Copy and paste the URL into this window and click OK.

Yeah, I know which car it is, just got the name slightly wrong, b/c different car mags/websites call it different things, such as Commodore SS, or Commodore VE SS, etc, so I didnt know what the official full name of the car was, but whatever it's called, it's certianly a beautifull and fast car! If only GM (GM owns the Opel brand) and Ford's cool foriegn cars were imported to the U.S!

If you are searching for images in Google don't pick the URL yo get immediately. Instead, click on 'full-size image' and use that link.
Example: If I wanted to post a pic of the Ferrari Enzo I would NOT use this URL:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.caradisiac.com/media/images/le_mag/mag289/ferrari-enzo-big.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.caradisiac.com/php/essai_tun/doss/doss289ter/auto-rapide-3.php&h=534&w=800&sz=49&hl=en&start=19&tbnid=oM-3j2zoCYhxIM:&tbnh=95&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dferrari%2Ben zo%26start%3D18%26ndsp%3D 18%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den %26lr%3D%26rls%3Dcom.micr osoft:en-US%26sa%3DN
BUT THIS ONE:
http://www.caradisiac.com/media/images/le_mag/mag289/ferrari-enzo-big.jpg
When done correctly, you should see this:
http://www.caradisiac.com/media/images/le_mag/mag289/ferrari-enzo-big.jpg
If it doesn't work you could always describe a car through a 'what car am I?' question and let us guess.

Nicely done.
Your car is obviously a coupe. From the looks of it, it seems to have been made in Asia - probably Japan - during the 1980's. It has some similarities the the Honda Accord of the early 1980's. It could be any of Japenese manufacturers though. I would need to see the front and rear to make an educated guess.

The Civic was mainly, but not totally, limited to the hatchback. That said, an old Civic would share some similarities to other 80's model Honda's.
