well it has to do with the different wavelengths of visible light being refracted in out atmosphere. Purple and blue being the most easy and efficiently refracted with green, orange, yellow and finally red being the largest and last to be refracted. When the sun is overhead it has less atmosphere to travel through then when it is setting. The sky looks blue, not violet, because our eyes are more sensitive to blue light (the sun also emits more energy as blue light than as violet). When the sun is setting and rising it is often orange/red/yellow. This is cuz it has more atmosphere to travel through and the blue has already been refracted before it reaches us.

I totally know where you are coming from... I have actually had a guy tell me that I am just not the kind of girl that guys date... I am more of the kind they marry. I was heart-broken when he told me this, b/c I was really thinking things were starting to get serious when they obviously weren't.
