I was listening to WBBM last night on my way to Illinois...
The city of Aurora has proposed a new law...
That all lights must be down 60 days after Christmas, or the property owner can be fined up to $500!

I'm trying to find a link...

I think houses and offices are a fire hazard, too... we should all live in caves.

Maybe Falwell and Dobson will conclude that this is an example of religious persecution.

Maybe they're trying to keep neighborhoods from looking like trailer parks. I would have been more concerned if they started try to prohibit it period.

I bet the Halloween light craze (which I have no problem with) probably started with people who left thier Chirstmas lights on all year and just turned them on early.

What's wrong with trailer parks?

That is very weird. Because some people put lights on their roof, and don't want to deal with having to climb on the roof again next year so they leave them. It's also fun to drive by a house in February and find out they still have their Christmas lights up. Because then you get to laugh. I don't like that new rule, I like laughing. :D

I dont think thats right because what if there are people who are elderly and just leave them up all year round because there not well enough to take them down, or if you broke both you legs or something crazy like that... yeah i dont quite agree with that.

There's also a law in Michigan where you cant tie your aligator on a public light post, telephone poll or anything like that or you will recieve a fine and or some jail time, i found that one funny...

What about crocidile...

How on earth can a law like that pass? If they want to pass a good law...they should make people who have a yard/garage sale take down their signs within 24 hours of the sale ending! Some people put their signs up all over town with no intention at all of ever taking them down. They should require the person's address be on the sign somewhere so an officer can issue a ticket after the 24 hours...like $10 or something...per sign. How's that for sorta getting off-track. Christmas lights...it's just another attempt to harrass Christians, let's face it.

If someone told me to take my Christmas lights down, I would tell them that they weren't Christmas lights, but Easter lights -- and I that I was just getting an early start on celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a few lights to remind me that He is the Light of the World...

I am not that far from Aurora and I haven't heard anything about that. If they decide to do that, it is certainly within their authority to do so, just like our town will cut your grass and charge you for it if it gets above eight inches.

Just totally wish our town would do that....cut the grass..haul of the junk and trash..and then send a great big old huge bill.....

Fighting to keep my neighborhood clean....

Who does it HURT and whose rights are violated if I leave my Christmas lights up all year?

I know homeowner's associations have the ability to enforce something stupid like this. I'd be surprised if a city can, though - I suppose technically they can call it a public nuisance, or a "blight" or something, but that'd be a tough sell.
