View Full Version : lets talk about preachers that we believe are doing some good
i don't know anything at all about joel osteen, so i'm not going to say anything negative against him or come to his defense. i've stated my opinions on this subject matter before; the whole "let's talk about preachers, prophets etc. that we think are false and not preaching the word like we believe it should be preached". i'm not saying there was anything said that was horrible against joel osteen, but the fact there was another thread about a preacher "we don't like" made me think. why don't we just post pastors and prophets etc. that we feel are preaching a sound doctrine or that we believe are true prophets of God. i don't think i've ever heard it from here (that was not a jab, but i'm not around here much and i truly don't believe i've read one)....so, maybe that would be a nice change in pace.

i agree....my preacher for instance is a great preacher....he preaches the Gospel....preaches how we need to repent and be baptize in Jesus' name to be given the gift of the Holy Spirit.....the whole time I have been going to this church he has never said anything that's offended me....or that wasn't in the Bible....

I have been blessed by the teachings of John Eldredge. He's not a preacher, though.

My all-time favorite pastor is Matt Chambers, pastor of South Whidbey Assembly of God. I've known he and his wife now for over 16 years.
He's one of those guys who just lives out the gospel while teaching the Word of God. He loves people. He goes the extra mile. He supports missions like crazy. He gives to the needy, not expecting anything in return. He reaches out to those in the community who are not Christians, as well as to the church body. He leads from the bottom up. He is patriotic, pro-life, and believes that Christianity about loving people and loving God. He believe that faith expressing itself through love is the calling for every Christian. I respect him more than any president of the United States, and I would vote for him if he ever ran for president, even though he simply wouldn't run.

Jeff Arnold is my all time favorite..and TF Tenney...the father of Tommy Tenney...these elders..are awesome...you can order and possibly listen to their tapes at the The Pentecostals of Alexandria LA...the have a White Steeple church book store where they sell loads of Christian tapes and books and lots of other stuff... Bro T F Tenney and Bro. Tom Barnes are some of the wisest elders around...
I also like some of TD Jakes preaching, especially the sermon on The Alabaster Box....wanting to get Woman thou art loosed...has anyone read it or heard it???
Our superintendent of the ALJC Bro. Steve Wilson is excellent as well....I mostly enjoy the elders...there are some yougsters I like....
I just thank God that there are men of God willing to stand up in this day and time and preach the word of God with conviction....
God Bless

My favorite well-known preacher is David Wilkerson. He founded Teen Challenge. Some of his story was told in the movie The Cross and the Switchblade starring Pat Boone and Erik Estrada.
He is the founding pastor of Times Square Church in New York City.

The finest preacher I've ever heard - and there have been more than a few - is the Rev. Dr. James Forbes Jr., of Riverside Church in New York City.
He preached at my seminary in late October; he was absolutely amazing.

I'm a Calvary Chapel-ite too! Love it. My wife went to Chuck's church, we now go to CC Gwinnett here in Georgia.
Best pastor I've ever heard was Mark Foreman at North Coast Calvary Chapel in Carlsbad, CA. We miss that church the most about SoCal. His sons are 2 of the members in Switchfoot.

His sons are 2 of the members in Switchfoot.Man, we Calvary folks are popping up everywhere - I've been hanging out for years at Crossroads Calvary Chapel in Denver w/Tom Stipe, who's also an incredible teacher and has been the pastor here since the church started in 1976. (In fact, Tom, Greg Laurie, Mike Macintosh (Harvest San Diego), and Raul Ries were all on staff together under Chuck Smith back in the early '70s). Anyway, like most Calvary pastors Tom teaches the Bible verse by verse, but the thing I appreciate the most about him is that he holds us accountable for what we do with what we're taught. He's constantly stressing the fact that the real work of the ministry begins and ends with us; his job is to equip us and send us out to serve, and ours is to roll up our sleeves and get busy.
By the way, like many other Calvary affiliates our services are available online for no charge. Our website offers about 6 months of audio messages and the entire video/audio of the previous weeks service is also streamed online. You can find it on our web site at:

I listen to broadcasts of Charles Stanley, Michael Youssef, Chuck Colson, Chip Ingram (living on the edge), Andy something (former pastor of Belleview Baptist in Memphis). God has used these guys to draw me to him in incredible ways over the last few years. I'm on the road a lot and God has made it impossible for me to listen to anything else. Even when I REALLY wanted to listen to a new CD I had just bought.
All of these pastors/teachers are/were very Bible and Christ centered. I have finally begun to really get into the scriptures on my own time because of listening to them on the radio...
Great thread by the way.

Nationally... I think Luis Palau is doing some real good.... Getting the word out and all.....
I personally like Franklin Graham quite a bit as well... He has the same fire that his father had in his youth....
Locally, First Baptist of Orlando has a new Co-Pastor who will be taking over when their Pastor Retires. His name is David Uth and he seems pretty good (Atleast from what I have seen on TV)....
