I'm curious, what do you all think of Dr. Laura and her morals, show, etc.?

I used to enjoy listening to her program.....and then the local radio station stopped airing her show  . But while it was on, I did listen and agree with most of what she had to say. :)
I agreed with her positions on issues...she became a bit abrasive....her honestly became brutal which may not have been the best way to wake people up...she hasn't been on our station here in Chicago for a while now....

I listen to her every day. She is very wise and I enjoy her program immensely. Sometimes I think she is a little too harsh, but generally I agree.
My boyfriend says she is his hero  :) I try and learn from her and use her logic in every day life...She is a very helpful woman. It is funny that you made this thread because I almost did. But I didnt know she aired anywhere outside of the western coast.

I think that Dr. Laura is a neat lady. She tells it like it is, I respect that.
I agree. I don't get to listen to her a lot, but my dad listens to her faithfully and loves her show. I trust his judgement. ;)

I love listening to Dr. Laura. I agree with her on most everything. About the only time I do have a disagreement is in how she deals with people at times. Unlike the others, I do not think she is too harsh. Most of the time when she is being harsh, it is because the other person on the phone needs it.
I bought her book "10 Stupid Things Men Do To Mess Up Their Lives" and she is right on. Most Christians that have read "Wild at Heart" would probably enjoy this book as well.
She does speak the unbridled truth and does confront people with what they need to hear....she just started to become a bit insulting...not the way I would picture Jesus doing it....truth with love...of course I don't think she would model herself after Him, necessarily....

Jesus insulted the pharisees all the time.
He called them snakes, and hypocrits. He insutled their intelligence plenty of times. He called them wicked, and hard hearted. And this is just in mark Mark so far.

Show me one verse in the Bible that says that believers in Christ should ever do this (talk like that) to other believers...

Jesus insulted the pharisees all the time.Jesus dealing with a bunch of religious people is far different than people that call Dr. Laura asking for advice. The difference? The pharisees were set on making sure everyone obeyed the Law. Dr. Laura is in the buisness of helping people straighten out their lives, even if it seems harsh.
Dr. Laura uses tough love and the instances you recalled of Jesus referring to the pharisees as snakes and what-not, those are rebukes.

Ok I was responding SueQ when she said she couldn't picture Jesus as insulting someone (At least thats the gist I got of what you said). I'm sure the pharisees were so far gone that nothing else would get through to them or Jesus wouldn't have said the things He said about them. I realize we, as humans, are not in a position to judge whether or not some is that off base. We are not to judge the world, or the non-believers.
In summary I was not saying go make fun of non-believers. I was merely pointing out that Jesus did insult the so-called 'spirtiual leaders' in Israel of His time on earth.

Rebuking someone is a form of 'tough-love'. No one wants to be rebuked, and some will argue to their last breath that their right, no matter what. But people need rebuking on occasion.

She calls women who live with their boyfriends "unpaid whores".
When I first heard that I was like , but it made alot of sense after the initial shock.

...but they were spiritual leaders...more responsibilty...I know, I know..you can say that everyone is responsible....but you speak differently to an adult Christian than you do to a child....those "unpaid whores" are ignorant of God's grace...ignorant meaning "unaware"....I'm not saying she shouldn't say what needs to be said....the tone could be different...I think she sometimes cuts off her nose to rebuke her face...Granted she is one who focuses on God's law rather than His mercy and grace through Jesus....

People won't listen to her if she focused on grace and mercy through Jesus, or else they would have her on a Christian network station.
She is more about straightening out people with common sense. I believe that the majority of people have common sense, many just choose not to use it.
Very true....another interesting thing about her show is the reason some tune in...I've heard people talk about "who she's gonna rip today?"...seems some take a sick sense of joy in hearing others rebuked... :(

Granted she is one who focuses on God's law rather than His mercy and grace through Jesus....I was going to say something along the lines that we have to remember that she has a Jewish perspective. What she says is influenced by that and not Jesus Christ's teachings.

When she first started she wasn't as .......coarse?...brutal?. ...I believe this is what attracted some listeners and it is quite possible she was encouraged to bend this way to keep and attract even more for ratings...
