The Measure of a Man is a good book and basically a study guide on how men should live up to their God ordained responsibility in church and in their everyday life.

Am I the only one who thinks Purpose Driven Life has been way over used. It is a watered down book that has very little deep theological value to it.

I can't believe how much it has been blown out of proportion but maybe it is just me

Actually I was one of a handful of people at our church that didn't get involved in the study of this book.

if the church needs baby food, then what does that say about the state of the church?

it's sad that the going idea was that the individual churches would grow immensly on a personal level by studying it with the church. It seemed to work the oppsoite for us.

I can't see putting that much emphasis on a book that most churches would need to edit to fit their theology, when the Bible doesn't need editting.

its because pastors like to use the trendy thing to draw people in. and that is the main problem with why the church is losing relevance

I think this book has been getting way too much attention, but maybe that is because it is right where many people are at in their walk with Christ... let me see... what did you call it? Oh, yeah; baby food.

I actually skimmed it (I just couldn't read through it... I just couldn't... just like I can't eat peas and carrots baby food), and found that it was ok, but really dumbed down Christianity.

I think it's a notch above baby food, but certainly not for mature Christians. But I think it's generally a good thing, because filling a need. I'd love to think that there aren't a bunch of Christians in America who need to be told to get off their couch and focus on God, but the fact is, most Christians are that way.

This book is meeting many Christians where they are. And where they are is, they play church every Sunday, and don't give God much thought the rest of the week, except for nominal things like saying grace before meals, or venting about the ruling of some liberal judge who wants to remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. They think that these types of things are what Christians are supposed to do.

The book didn't do much for me, but I went through it because I was asked to lead a group of people in the thing for 6 weeks. And I think it did them some good.

I did the same; read through part of a chapter, skimmed through a bit more. I just couldn't make myself read through it entirely. I think your analysis is good - it's baby food for immature Christians. Sadly, much of the church in the US is in a state where it is apparently applicable to them.

Yes; I agree with you (though I'm with Rock on it being baby food). I was just rewording it in a concise manner to indicate that I agree. :)
