XXX Church (http://www.xxxchurch.com) (This site has no porn...don't worry)
This is a ministry reaching out to those in the porn industry and those that struggle with pornography. What do you think?

I'm moving this to Hot Topics, since it could be somewhat controversial (and definitely adult) subject matter.
It's an area that churches too often neglect though - not sure how effective their ministry is, but it seems to be on the right track anyway.

I've been to that site a few times. I saw it when it was first started up. In my opinion, it's become more of a marketing campaign than a ministry. With all the t-shirts, mouse pads, screensavers, etc...it's like they're trying to market more than minister. I'm sure that's not the case since they are pretty active (they actually set up booths for xxxchurch at porn conventions to minister to the lost). It is a very important part of ministry though. It's amazing the number of Christians that struggle with this daily, and I wish more churches would address it out in the open.

XXXChurch has free accountability software. It works by sending an email to your accountability partners (up to three of them) telling them what questionable sites you've gone to. A person isn't as apt to go to a porn site if he knows he will have to answer for it.
There are other useful things on there like pledges for people to sign and things. It's a great ministry.

Yes, this FREE software is great to have. To me, it is the most effective part of their ministry. Glad you mentioned it! Here is the link to download the free software! (http://www.x3watch.com)

i like some of their stuff, but am very unsure of their approach.
i first saw it a few years ago, and have always been uneasy with it. not sure exactly why, but something about their approach bothers me.........and remember, i am fairly liberal on most issues :D

Something about the approach always "felt" a little off to me too, but I can't find any substantial problems with them. I am a bit skeptical about the efficacy of the software... if someone's going to go to those sites, they can easily disable the software before doing so, to avoid alerting anyone, if they want to.
But, it's an area that's widely neglected, but needs to be addressed. So, absent any problems with the substance of the site, etc. I'll set aside my discomfort with the style and pray that their ministry is effective.

I took a superficial look at their site once. Personally I think that the guys who run it are trying too hard to convince people that they are not some geeky party spoilers but that they are cool guys. I don't know... but it feels a bit phony. Still, I don't know them so please don't take my words as the truth. I could be totally wrong.

The software notifies the accountablility partners whenever the program is disabled. If someone is serious about being held accountable...the "my computer froze up" excuse won't last long.
I agree that their approach is extreme...some of it I think it too over the top. But I think I can go through every ministry and nitpick. Overall...their ministry is effective and people are breaking free from the chains of pornography and embracing Christ.

I had a friend who used the software once, and he said that it also informes your partners if you disable the software at any time.

I mean, their ministry is not to me. The people they serve might just need that over-the-top approach. I'm just amazed at their own willpower. It must be extremely difficult to go to porn conventions without giving in to temptation.
I like the No Ho Zone (http://www.xxxchurch.com/pornpatrol/noho.asp) with the pledge for young girls.

i love x3church...... i have the program on my puter and every two weeks its sends an email to jenna and my dad.... i love the way it keeps me cautious of what i look at online.... when i feel like i need to look at porn i think about jenna opening that email and seeing the site... i also see the icon in the lower right hand corner of my puter screen.... so i never forget that i need to honor God and my future wife and not look at that stuff
