Brian, is that tool bar on the bottom standard for Windows XP Professional? I like it. :) I might just move all my stuff down to the task bar. I don't even use half of the stuff on the desktop.

Here is mine. It's a picture of cornflowers I took at the graveyard where Laura Ingalls Wilder, her husband, and daughter are buried. (No, that's not morbid. It's history.) There is no real significance of the place. That's just where I happened to find a nice field of the cornflowers to photograph. :)

Are you asking if the Quick Launch bar (icons to launch programs) is standard, or the color scheme I've got? If the former, yes. If the latter, no.

To enable Quick Launch, right-click on the taskbar, and under the Toolbars menu, check Quick Launch. (Right-click on taskbar/uncheck Lock if you want to move it around, etc).

As for the custom visual style... the file uxtheme.dll has to be patched to allow non-Microsoft styles. Then, a variety are available from third-party sources.

No, I meant the Quick Launch bar. I have that enabled, but I have it set to hide the inactive icons.

Well, that was fun. I just did some redecorating. I like the view much better now. :)

I'm still in that Third Day groove, but I actually had this one set as my wallpaper on both my home and work PCs for for several MONTHS back in February and March. It really perplexed people at work, they had NO idea what they were looking at. It was a great conversation starter. :p

I shot this back in February, as I was still putting the new Nikon through it's paces to see what it could do. Discovered in a hurry that sitting on a tripod, using that time exposure option, I could get some great photos of the stars. Shot a great one of Orion, one of the most obvious of the constellations that I can pick up from the backyard during the winter, then thought "wonder how close I can get..."

And when I transferred the results to my PC and saw what the camera saw that I didn't, even through the LCD, I almost fell off my chair. The Nikon picked up stars that I didn't see, color variations that I couldn't see, and even neater, was that it actually picked up the Orion Nebula (fuzzy but definitely there) in the middle of the sword at the bottom of the pic  It was at that point where I was really glad I'd spent the money on the Nikon. :D

It's not the prettiest photo in the world, but I was so amazed that it came out, I left it as wallpaper for quite a while. :)

(Just including a link to the 1280x960 pic, since it really loses a LOT of the detail at 640x480.)

I'm going to have to try that when I get my Panasonic FZ30.

Maybe we can have photo contests in this forum. Best macro flower, best moon shots, best pet, best concert shot, stuff like that. That would be fun. We'd have to have different catagories: dSLRs, prosumer, and point & shoot, to make it more fair. Sound like fun?

Cool, Chris. I like that. :D Did you photoshop it or is there actually an intersection with those two streets?

I finally broke down and changed mine. This is actually a pic that Yippy shot at the show she went to, Mac is in there someplace (it took me a week before I could actually make him out), but it took what I thought was a very artistic turn. I just flipped it and upped the saturation a bit to bring out the color, and thought "Yeah, this makes LOVELY wallpaper." I've been using it ever since. It's kind of "Consuming Fire"y.

Really have GOT to clean off the desktop though, the icons are starting to stack up again. :o Where IS that Clutter Fairy when I need her? :p

Not to sound like a mom or organization freak here, but doesn't anyone use their My Documents folder? All that stuff on the desktop could be in nice, neat folders in your documents folder. (Sorry, but I am an organization freak! :p )I NEVER use the My Documents folder, and don't even have it on the desktop anymore. Unfortunately, My Documents is on my very small C drive. After the OS was installed, it only left me with about 4 or 5 gb on that drive, with all the rest of my 120gb hard drive on the D drive instead. So most of my working directories and programs and files go onto the D drive instead, with just shortcuts to them on the desktop. If I'd been able to move the My Documents folder over to D, where all the space is, I probably WOULD use it. But I wasn't, so I don't. :p

But this should ease your organizationally happy mind, Corrine. :) I started using that program Iconoid, and ta-DAH! A completely icon free desktop. Well, they're there, but currently invisible.

I am the same way with computer files. If i had to compare a snapshot of my computer files and my bedroom, you'd be in shock. How neat my computer files are and how messed up my room is.

I have folders, inside of folders, in folders, a folder for each period of my classes, and a file naming system for everything. It drives most people crazy, but it drives me crazy without it!

This is a picture of the post office aboard the WWII era battleship Texas that I took. It's docked near Houston, and serves as a museum. I've been cleaning out my old pictures, and I thought I'd use it for a desktop for a while.

Here's the latest, from the Durham show...

Amazing how clean the desktop is (Mama would be proud! :p ), since I had to reset my C drive and Windows to its factory settings since for some reason  it decided that it didn't want to boot up Monday night.

Just haven't had a lot of time to clutter it up yet.

"Yet" being the operative word. Just give me time, I'm sure it won't take long...

The Unknown Gomer

I noticed that too, that he was the one pic that didn't follow the same color scheme as the rest of the desktop, but I like his expression in that one. :) And it was late, I was too tired to go through all the pics from last week to find another one to color coordinate.

I'm sure I'll continue to tweak the desktop as I go, but I'm still trying to restore my C drive into something that resembles something I recognize; given the fact that my PC wouldn't even start Monday night, I feel pretty lucky that have something other the factory installed Vaio wallpaper on the desktop at the moment. :D

Third Day just got the boot off of my desktop this morning. *sniffle* ;)

Finally remembered to bring my camera to work this week and got a shot the Christmas lights that downtown Cary put up a week or so ago.

The BEST shot is one I didn't get, yet, but it involves setting the camera up on the tripod again and standing right in the middle of the street looking down the length of the street to get it. Haven't quite worked out the logistics yet so far as how to get the shot without getting flattened by the traffic, but I'm still working on that. :D

This one would be a much better shot without the RR crossing sign, but given that there are, not just one, but TWO sets of tracks there, I DON'T think anyone would be willing to take it down for me. :( ;)

Those don't have the audio quality of the "pop-star" style headworn mics, for singing - they're well suited for a preaching environment with low background noise, but that's about it.

Zoomed out as far as I could with this one, to get as much of the stage as I could, and well, sorry Mark, you didn't quite make it in this one, I barely managed to get Mac in there. And David was, as usual, hidden behind Mac most of the night. Argh.

For example, this is the one I am using now:

Lady Liberty gets a Makeover. How very Warhol-ish. :) I like it. Better than soup cans.

Here's my latest. Nothing spectacular, I just have this thing about the way the rafters are rigged at the RBC, I like the lines and angles in it. And the fact that this shot has the post-game confetti still raining down in it, that always makes me happy. :)

When I saw this shot afterwards, I was like "Oh, so THAT'S how that confetti ended up down inside the front of my t-shirt!" I'd felt it in there after I got home, and was so afraid it was a bug or something since I'd just come from outside , then pulled it out, saw what it was, and just went "Whew!". :D

New concert, new desktop. :)

Although this one is probably only temporary, until I sort through all the concert shots. :D

The fireworks display after the show was fantastic; this was my first time using the Nikon to try to get photos (and QT clips, THOSE came out really nice) of them. I would have done better with a tripod, but alas, I'd left that in the trunk of the car that we DIDN'T drive to the stadium. Despite that, got SEVERAL decent fireworks shots; this is the current one I've got on the desktop...

Is this of your server or something? Not many people have workstations with 3 monitors and things like that open....

Well that was why it didn't work...because I was trying to FIND just a HQ picture of a street sign, and then was planning on putting in the words...but it didn't work because I never could find a HQ picture of any street sign.

Y'all have awesome desktops!

Someone (I forgot who---I'm sorry!) posted the original "Day Third" picture, as mercyGurl said, so I took the liberty of photoshopping it. I have the original still somewhere...

Amy

It's been almost a month, and nobody has posted anything new, so since I finally changed my desktop for the first time since the Fort Mill show, I thought I'd post my latest. I shot this at the Roanoke Rapids concert last weekend...

With all the discussion going on about which is better, PC or Mac, I thought as a long time PC user that I'd finally give a "Mac" a try. :p

Although, I don't know how long I'll leave this up, it's kind of spooky that no matter where I stand in my room, he's still LOOKING at me. I feel like I'm living in "The Mystery Spot" back in Santa Cruz. :D

Well...the old thread is gone, now. Time to start over, so post your screenies!

Edit-Ok, the old thread is not gone, it just did not turn up in a search. But here is a new one, anyways.

Here is my current one, made with Paintshop Pro using pictures from my recent mission trip-

Gone? It's still there (http://www.thirdday.com/boards/showthread.php?t=77343), all 17 pages of it. :)

As a PC user, I've always been curious as to what having a Mac desktop would look like, so I gave it a try. :p I've been using this one since the Roanoke Rapids show last month.

...*wince* Oh, oops. I did a search and could not find it...

Haha...good one...:p That is an awesome shot of Mac!

And Danbos, that JC desktop is pretty 1337! ;)

I tried searching for it too, but couldn't find it either, until I went and looked in the Wired/Wireless thread itself and just went down the list until I found it. That's usually the only way I can find it anyway, I can never remember if it's "screen shots" or "screenshots", and always pick the wrong one. Now I'll be even more confused since it's got a space and the new thread doesn't. At least one way or the other, regardless of how you enter it, a search will bring one up. :D

And Danbos, I second her vote, that's an awesome screenshot. I've always liked the shot of J from that CD cover. *sigh* Jeremy Camp in concert, what a novel concept. I saw him at Kingsfest, and with the new CD coming out, I'd planned on definitely catch him on the new tour. EXCEPT, he's not playing anywhere NEAR here this fall! *sniffle*
