Thanks Amy, for starting this thread. Haven't heard anything back about the 'sticky'... so thanks! Thanks also to Greyshades for the name, I thought it was a fabulous name also. :D

I just quickly wanted to reiterate what poidog said, since I initially mentioned something about putting together this type of thread, and will feel at least partially responsible if this backfires on us somehow...

We want to be sure to make a POSITIVE impact for the band, not a negative one... so it is imperative that we are polite when we make requests, and that we don't overdo it to the point that they just begin ignorning all of our requests. This is very likely to happen if we suddenly "flood" a particular station with requests, so just keep that in mind. A 'staggered' effort throughout the day will probably be much more effective.

I YESLY want to get out there and get some ~mucho~ airtime for the guys, but let's make sure we do it appropriately, and let the light of Christ shine through us all in the process. After all, isn't that the most important thing of all? ;)

Now... LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!! :D

Love in Christ,

~Pam

I think it would be best if we ask the radio stations to add the song to their playlist, not just request the song. I've had one tell me they don't have the song. Thanks, everybody! Let's get TD on the airwaves! :D

I've got a few in Mass....they were more but they all played really loud stuff or classic hits.

WBCN-Boston 104.1 I'm gussing that their requests are requests@wbcn.com.

The Fox 100.1-Worchester....here is the contact page...contact page (http://www.thefoxfm.com/contactus.asp)

WRNX 100.9-Holyoke...they had Jars Of Clay on their playlist so I'm guessing they would prolly play 3d...here is the link to their contact page...contact page 2 (http://www.wrnx.com/index.php?id=28)

All glory to God for His mercy, provision, and grace...

Great work guys! I'm certain that after a few days of constant requesting, they'll get the message. (Yeah, they'll get "The Message")

I thought I'd add that I was able to get "Southside" Steve on the phone today during the mid-day show, at the start of the "all request nooner". (For those of you who just said, "Who? What?" that's at 96Rock in Atlanta.) I actually was able to keep him on the phone for a few minutes, and really explain who Third Day is, such as the fact that they are from Atlanta (I told him we should be supporting our hometown artists.). Also, I went on to tell him that they have 10 years of experience making music professionally, and that thier newest album has debuted at no. 12 on the Billboard charts, and, of course, that they just downright ROCK! To make a long story short, he promised to have a discussion with the program director about having them added to the daily rotation. Yeah, the DAILY rotation. Not just a one time request, but a regular, daily playing of Third Day!

Pray hard about that one. I can only say that I merely requested COBTM and did a little talking, but I never said anything about the daily rotation. Jesus is workin'!!

He's got a message! He's got a song! I'm here to witness! And I say, "IT"S ON!!"

Keep up the good work folks! Oh, and Pam, I'll take some of that heat too, if that should become the case. But, I still say this is something that we, as fans, and as believers of the Good News, should be doing. "Never mind your worries." ;)

If the guys read this, (and I know they do occasionally) this degree of dedication and effort on their fans parts should be enough to send a chill down their backs. If 3D wants a spillover, then the Gomers will do their darnedest to try and aid that process along. Time to start some request e-mails.....

Amen, brothers and sisters!!!!

Greyshades, thanks for talking to Southside Steve. Tim from 96 Rock just told me they don't have that song. He wasn't as receptive. So, it's nice to hear that someone there was willing to listen. Believe it or not, I actually did hear Third Day on there years ago. It would've been something from the bus album. Pam, Greyshades, and I just really believe in this. We just believe that God will work to make this happen. We are just the vessels. There have been some say that they will work to get it on the playlist. We will just pray! Thanks, everybody, for your efforts!!!

Continue to pray on this folks. And remember, in all we do, whether it be speaking to someone at a radio station, or telling someone on the street about this group, we are to be mirrors of God's glory. Reflect His grace and love for all to see, and you will see your efforts prosper.

I just wanted to remind everyone of something--

Space out your e-mails and stuff if you're e-mailing a station that isn't in your state or you couldn't get their frequency where you live.

Nothing ticks DJs off more than having fans request songs and the fans don't even listen to their station or live in the same state..so they don't start suspecting stuff, maybe just e-mail them once a week.

If they figure out what's happening, what they'll do is NOT play the band/artist and get mad.

It's happened to Clay Aiken fans, to Kelly Clarkson fans, to O-Town fans, Creed fans, and a lot of other people's fans...:(

So just be careful y'all, that's why it's important to get the numbers and e-mails for stations in your state at least!

Just to reiterate something Sarah said...

Do make sure if you send an e-quest to a station that is not in your immediate listening area, check and see if they have streaming audio. It is IMPERATIVE that we don't bombard any particular station with an absurd number of requests at a time.

Sarah's right... we absolutely don't want to make anyone upset and defeat our purpose here.

May the Lord lead and guide you all in this effort.

Just as Greyshades said, I believe if we pray about this, and let the Lord lead us, He will not steer us wrong. :)

I found this website. It lists all of the radio stations in Georgia. There is also a list for every other state. Just change the part where it has "ga" to the abbreviation for your state. It has a link to most of the stations. It lists every kind of station, but it does tell what type each one is, so you can just scroll down, finding the ones that are rock or top 40.

http://www.statehousegirls.net/ga/radio/

I agree with Pam and Sarah. Let's not bombard them. Let's just notify the ones in our area or at least ones we can listen to online. Politely request that they add this song to their playlist. Like Greyshades said, if we are faithful and listen to God, He will lead us. (:

Ok, here you all go. Search this site, and I'm sure you'll find your local stations, and some surrounding stations.

The big list (http://www.radioandrecords.com/Exclusives/Directory/rock_home.htm)

Mucho thank yous to Pam, and her husband for the discovery of this list.

The links on the list will take you to each station's respective website. Look for a "Contact Us" link on the home page, either via a graphic button, or at the very bottom in a small link.

Er, well, you guys know what to do. ;) Gentle and respectful!

Thought I'd add a post here to see if anyone can help out with this latest project.

I'm about to try and find contacts to the program directors at some of these stations. If anyone can help with this please PM or email me. Or if you happen to know some addresses (email) go ahead 'n post 'em up.

Thanks! and keep on requesting Third Day!

Ok, I got some addresses, direct emails, and office phone #'s for program and music directors in Atlanta. I'm going to work on a formal business letter regarding our efforts to get our boys out into the mainstream playlists. I'll update ya'll, and I also want to be able to run said letter by everyone here first.

Mods, please keep an eye out for this letter, if you would. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, or do anything that isn't first approved by Third Day, Inc. Feel free, and please contact me if there are any questions or comments.

I would strongly recommend not asking stations to play Rockstar or Billy Brown as their first 3D song. Here's why. I was a huge fan of Tripping Daisy in the 90's. They had a strong local following here in Texas, but when they got signed to Island records, and put out their first CD for that label (Island had re-released their self-recorded CD first, but didn't really promote it), it was time to really push them nationally.

The CD was called I Am An Elastic Firecracker, and it was great; it had several terrific songs on it, and I still listen to it to this day. One song was called "I Got a Girl", and that one went over real well in concert, but it was with people like me who had been TD fans for several years. It was a welcome diversion for us from the real TD music.

So they released that song as the first single, and the video was on MTV and they sang it on Conan Obrien, etc. Problem was, the new fans who had never heard of TD before all of a sudden were confronted with this novelty song. It set the tone, in their mind, that TD was not to be taken seriously. As a longtime fan, I just didn't understand that new fans were seeing this band much differently than I was.

Subsequent singles and CD's by them didn't do well, because they couldn't get played on radio, because people were looking for more songs like "I Got A Girl". In hindsight, everybody wishes TD had pushed other songs from that CD, like Raindrop, or Prick(that's not a dirty title; it's about a heroin addict).

Anyway, the lesson learned is that, while many of us longtime 3D fans "get" Billy Brown and Rockstar, I fear that if either of those songs is the introduction of the band to new audiences, it will make it difficult for their other songs to get airplay.

Gapeach3DFan
05-19-2004, 10:32 PM
I agree. I think that's one of the reasons we decided to request "Come on Back to Me." If "Rockstar" and "Billy Brown" get played later, that's great. But, we need to request one that shows where 3D is coming from. COBTM conveys the message. It's the great song for setting the stage.

That's a good point...I hadn't really thought of that. I guess I simply hadn't thought of it that way. But to be honest when I heard Switchfoot on secular stations for the first time with "Meant To Live", I was a little upset b/c I had been following Switchfoot forever...and I've heard so many people talking about them now, but I wonder, why didn't they re-release something like "Learning To Breathe", which in my opinion is one of the greatest songs written. So yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from...Thanks for setting me straight...

By the way...A little note to FaithInHim, I believe, I just called a friend that works at the Buzzard and their going to get Third Day in the rotation during "Homegrown" on Sundays at 6 p.m. Just thought I'd let ya know...that Greenville seems to be accepting the requests pretty well. Let's keep up the good work...and thanks again for setting my straight :0) Jasonout

I think it's pretty important that if we do this, we all request the same song, so that song can become a hit. "Come on Back to Me" just seems like the perfect candidate for cross-over, because it's just such a Third Day song. It's even Christian in nature, and I think that it would be cool for them to cross-over (or spill-over, whatever) with a Christian-themed song.

Jason,
Thanks for the follow-up, that is great news!!! Although I'm in Atlanta now (for the past 10 years or so) I grew up in Greenville, and I'm glad to know that some of the stations there are giving Third Day a chance. As a matter of fact, I'll be up there visiting family on Memorial Day weekend, so maybe I'll get a chance to tune in to the Buzzard Sunday night and see if I hear it for myself!

Thanks again,

Here at http://www.d7online.com/music_rate.cfm for a local station 100.3 here in Dallas, Come On Back To Me is on the "rate it" listing. So far people have it rated 4.5 out of 5. You have to create a log on account to vote, but it's free so. Switchfoot and MercyMe are there too, but they are already on the playlist for the regular rotation.

Thanks.

That's like "positive" music, so they do have a good amount of Christian music...joined and voted!

KLTY? You're in the DFW area? The frustrating thing about KLTY is that they find time to play Amy Grant about 5 times an hour. Lots of my friends refer to KLTY as "the secular Christian station." OK, not lots of friends, just one. But still.

If you're in this area, then you know that 89.7 Power Fm is the first station in the world that chose a 24/7 Christian rock format, so they've been a major source of Third Day around here. But KLTY does get more listeners, so it would be nice if they would put "I Believe" or "Come Back To Me" in their rotation. Just once every three hours, and they could still play Amy Grant 14 times instead of 15 during those 3 hours, and we'd all be better off.

I've been trying to email Jerry Williams @ J93.3 in Atlanta since the first of the week, but kept getting an error message back from his email address posted on the website. I finally was able to get an email through lastnight... or at least, I didn't get an "undeliverable" message back. Don't know if anyone else in Atlanta was having this problem or not... but we'll see what happens. I'll let everyone know what kind of response (if any) I get back.

Do you listen to 89.7? Eddie Alcaraz is a good friend of mine, and he says that the 3D concert in Dallas a couple of weeks ago was sponsored by KLTY in an exclusive deal meaning that no other local Christian stations were allowed to be involved. That's pretty cruddy (we blame it on promoters, not the band). But we finally decided that if anyone needs the touch of the Holy Spirit that often accompanies Third Day shows, it's KLTY listeners ;)

Hi all!

I wanted to let you know I got a response from J93.3 this afternoon. The program manager basically thanked me for emailing, and indicated that they had played "I Believe" a few weeks ago... but I got the impression it was only once. They are considering adding it to the rotation as soon as "Sing A Song" is not longer in the rotation.

 I didn't realize that you couldn't have two songs by the same artist in a rotation, but anyway... we shall see. No comment was given about "Come On Back To Me." :( But hey, at least I got a response, right?

Hey everybody!

This thread (soon to be a sticky) is a continuation of the previous Revolution thread, which is broken and can't be posted to any longer.

From the first thread:

This is a post for everyone to list their local radio station information. You can list their website and/or request line...

...Let's get busy. We are requesting "Come On Back To Me." Have fun!

Amy <><

This is also a good place to tell us about any feedback you receive from your local radio stations in response to your requests from Wire.

AgentSteph posted this link in the first thread:

As of today, for the month of May, COBTM is now ranked #1 on that site, with a 4.70... that's .70 points ahead of the #2 spot. Way to go, gomers !!!!!! Thanks for taking the time to vote!!! With a #1 ranking for the month, COBTM will most certainly be added to the playlist on that station.

God Bless you all for your efforts!

I've got another sort of "request" for all of us here,

Use this thread, or email me directly, and post some statistical, and factual points about Third Day. ie: Sales stats, chart ratings, ticket sales, etc. Then, with that post, tell us your opinion about why Third Day should be playing on every station, nationwide.

Ok, a really, really good site for radio stats is The PDA advisor (http://www.thepdadvisor.com/charts/)

Unfortunately there is a problem. COBTM was 9th, and then it went to 7th last week, but it's at 8 this week on the CHR charts

I Believe was 13, then 8, now at 7 on the AC charts

Keep requesting guys!

Hello folks--

I work for a Christian radio station...as a matter of fact, I've worked in Christian radio for 25 years, and I am going to hip you to reality: radio station playlists are by and large driven by research, NOT requests. When someone calls and requests a song we are not playing (a new song) then that is a dead giveaway that this person is working on some campaign to 'support the band' or something of that nature. Most major market radio stations that are run professionally are going to totally ignore calls of this type. Maybe this works on college stations or small market radio, but not on large market professionally run radio stations. The ONLY thing you can do to possibly influence radio station playlists is get yourself invited to a radio station music test, and rate the records you like highly. Other than that, just buy the records. Don't waste your time and energy mounting phone call request campaigns. They simply don't work.

Y'all, I know this has nothing to do with 3D (shame on me) but our beloved Amber is "muy" sick. So let us pray that she is feeling groovy again soon. ta-ta.

Anyway, the lesson learned is that, while many of us longtime 3D fans "get" Billy Brown and Rockstar...

Could someone explain these two songs for me. sorry, I don't mean to be rude I just don't like these songs very much and was wondering if their is deeper meaning in them that I haven't gotten. That would probably make me like those 2 songs a whole lot more. Thanks and
God Bless

To me, Rockstar and Billy Brown fall along the same lines. They are both talking about fame and the whole American cultural notion of a "rockstar" being super famous, all over every magazine, selling out arenas, being on MTV, etc, etc. The difference between the two, however, is that Billy Brown is talking about a "rockstar" who is famous--but is different (but do they know the reason why you point your finger to the sky?) because he is a Christian. Rockstar, on the other hand, is about someone saying that they want to be a "rockstar," but they aren't, but they are ok with that because to God they are so much more than some famous dude---they are His child. So it doesn't matter if they are world famous and all that.

This is all my interpretation, of course.

And I don't want to hijack this thread...so how is the Third Day Radio Revolution going anyhow? I quit listening to the top 40 stations around here 'cause all they play is that mindless junk put out by Ludakris and Lil John and the like, that make absolutely no sense and I can't take it...but I digress...I keep praying that somehow more GOOD music will find it's way to secular radio to plant seeds and begin to change lives...

Melakon has a good point. I also work in Christian Radio and I can tell you that the playlist, at least with the bigger stations like His Radio, Klove, and Air1 are driven by research not by requests. The easiest way to influence a station is to get on with their listener advisory board, or music feedback team, or what ever they have going to get feedback. The program directors, mine included, are crazy busy people and don't usually read e-mails from people they don't know. They do pay LOTS of attention to the listener feedback they get from the places I mentioned above. With all that being said. Keep it up. What you're doing is great. I just want to help us do it and have the maximum impact possible. Also the pda advisor is no longer running so the charts and data are no longer available. I'd rely on the billboard charts for now and I'll work on geting some extra ones to take a look at for everyone. Hope you guys have a great day!!

I have been listening to YES-FM (89.3 WYSE in Toledo, OH; www.yeshome.com (http://www.yeshome.com)) for several months. They play a lot of songs I like, but not much 3D or any of the 'major' artists. They are stuck on the 'minors' such as TFK, Relient K, Stellar Kart and Toledo's own Sanctus Real. I hear these bands played many times and many different songs throughout the day, but I hear 3D maybe once a week. The same with the rest of the 'majors' (Casting Crowns, Michael W.S., Jeremy K, C. Thomlin, etc.) - not played on this station. I've been answering their weekly survey (3D or any of the majors is a choice nor is there an open spot to suggest other songs and/or artists). FYI, programming manager is Jeff Howe: jhowe@yeshome.com. I love how they state that they want our opinion, but don't listen to anything we have to say.

In the last few weeks, I have been able to pick-up KLOVE (96.9 Toledo), but there is still some static. I love that there is more variety with this station, plus they play both the majors and minors. I've started listening to them more and more (plus I hear 3D multiple times a day and different songs each time).:) I think I will have to pull the plug on YES-FM and start listening to KLOVE.

Unfortunately, those are the only 2 stations I can get in this area.

Does anybody know the websiter for Jacksonville, Florida's station 88.3 the Promise? I think they play 3D stuff, because they introduced Third Day at the concert last month, but whenever im in the car and have it on that station, they never play 3D stuff. Let me know if you know the website or phone #

I e-mailed a very religious guy at B93.7 in Greenville-Spartanburg and pitched "Cry Out to Jesus." I used MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine" and even "Gone" by Tobymac to make a case, as I've heard both of those on the station. I heard "Gone" once, and "I Can Only Imagine" was almost overplayed. I explained to him how many people could be uplifted by the song. I'm almost certain he's heard of Third Day and is probably a fan. I've met him and spoken with him before, so perhaps I can convince him that so many people would be uplifted and encouraged by the message in "Cry Out to Jesus." Let's pray that the Lord would speak to the powers that be at 93.7 and that "Cry Out to Jesus" would receive some airplay. I simply asked that they add it to the playlist.

I got an encouraging e-mail from the guy who runs the morning show on B93.7 in Greenville, SC. I e-mailed him asking if they would play "Cry Out to Jesus" as they used to play songs such as "I Can Only Imagine" all the time. I've even heard "Gone" by Tobymac, and this is Top 40 radio. Here is what he told me:

HEY SEAN
THANKS FOR THE ENCOURAGING EMAIL. JESUS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP IN MY LIFE AND I THANK YOU FOR YOIUR PRAYS. ALTHOUGH I'M NOT IN CHARGE OF THE MUSIC THATS PLAYED ON OUR STATION I WILL PASS ALONG THE INFO IN THE EMAIL..TAKE CARE AND THANKS FOR BEING A PART OF THE SHOW...HAWK

It's great to see that they are at least considering it. I figured "Cry Out to Jesus" would be the best song, because it's an encouraging song and could turn out leading many people to Christ. I have my doubts about whether or not this could really happen, but keep praying and it could happen.
