A sample of what David had to say:
"Third Day is just five guys who are Christians. People want music to encourage them to go further in their growth with God. That’s what Christian music is. "
Mac says:
"There’s nothing wrong with calling something a Christian book. So why would we have a problem calling something a Christian song?"

It is true that the name "Third Day" was almost universally hated by those close to the band in the early days, especially by the original Third Day manager/promoter who appears to have been "long time forgotten" (and who hopefully will forgive me for the reference to her--my beloved sister, Kathy Daniel Cecil). She thought the name wasn't catchy enough and pushed for her favorite, sideways 8, which referenced everlasting life God provides through a clever description of the infinity symbol. Mac and Mark believed that this would serve much better as the name of a song or album, but have yet to use it. The name Third Day caused much confusion in the early days, as many fans misunderstood its meaning and asked what God created on the third day. Fortunately, this confusion meant that they were being talked about, which inherently made it catchy enough. Mac and Mark stood their ground and perseverance paid off in the long run, as Third Day is now a household name in Christian homes everywhere. Well done, guys!
An interesting side note is that the name has been used by Jerry Davidson, former lead-singer for Jacob's Trouble, the sorely-missed band which provided an enormous amount of inspiration and encouragement as well as a high standard of music as ministry for a youthful Third Day to strive to emulate. Davidson's last known project was a band named "Sideways 8." And I thought only my sister was weird enough to turn a mathematical symbol into a creative name for a band!

Here it is:
Third Day's Further Expanding Boundaries
By Deborah Evans Price
For all those who thought praise and worship was strictly mellow acoustic music, Third Day shattered that perception with "Offerings: A Worship Album." Now, the Georgia rock act -- which last month won its first Grammy Award (best rock gospel album for 2002's "Come Together") -- expand the boundaries of the worship genre once again with "Offerings II: All I Have to Give," released March 4 by Essential Records.
"This is a worship record, but it's probably one of the most rockin' records that we've recorded," lead vocalist Mac Powell says. "Our definition of worship is probably a bit broader than a lot people's definition."
Bassist Tai Anderson adds, "Worship isn't about an acoustic guitar and a tambourine. We love shaking that up. When some people first listen to an 'Offerings' record, they say, 'That's not really a worship record.' Then they listen to it a few times and say 'Wow, the heart of this music is what worship is all about.'"
With the release of "Offerings II," it looks as if lightning could strike twice for the Dove Award-winning band. Powell and Anderson, along with bandmates David Carr, Brad Avery, and Mark Lee, once again serve up a collection of poignant worship songs branded by Third Day's unique musical personality.
The song "Offering" is among the set's highlights. "That's one where I challenged Mac," Anderson says. "We needed to write a song that is talking about giving to God and offering to God not just music but our entire lives. Mac totally responded to the challenge and wrote this incredible song."
Essential Records is planning special events with Regal Cinemas and Spring Communications on 10 theater screens in nine markets. "There is a projector system that allows them to beam out a concert event to multiple screens across the country at the same time," label VP of marketing Nina Williams says. Attendees will get a first look at a new Third Day concert video/DVD gleaned from performances on the band's 2002 Come Together tour, which is due in April.
The events are slated for Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, Mich., Atlanta, and Knoxville. The band will attend the event in Atlanta, where the screening will take place in two theaters.
Third Day will also embark on the second leg of the "Come Together and Worship" tour with Michael W. Smith. The run will kick off May 9 in Tempe, Ariz.

new third day article thought you guys might like to read
http://www.cmcentral.com/news/1290.html
This was sent to me by Captain Downs who was in the Persian Gulf area. Note in the article that the writer mentions Third Day and gives his explanation of Third Day. It is sort of funny.
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F70D10F 83C5D0C7A8EDDAA0894DB4044 82
From March 29. Notice the last paragraph reference to Third Day. Captain Downs wrote and told me that he is a big 3D fan. I found this very cool.
THE ARABIAN PENINSULA
Deep in the Saudi Desert, the Cross Hairs for U.S. Bombs
By CRAIG S. SMITH
AL KHARJ, Saudi Arabia, March 28 - In a corrugated aluminum building deep in the desert, dozens of men and women are working around the clock to decide where the missiles and bombs will explode in Iraq. Occasionally the targets are wrong, sometimes the munitions stray, but Capt. Mike Downs, a "chief of targets" in the Guidance Apportionment and Targeting unit, says his group goes to great lengths to avoid taking innocent lives.
"At the bottom of my heart, the thing I would like the American public to know is that we value life and we want to do the right thing for America and minimize collateral damage," Captain Downs said by telephone this week from the mustard-colored structure that houses the Combined Air Operations Center on Prince Sultan Air Force Base. Saudi Arabia, which officially opposes the war, publicly denies that selecting targets for the Iraqi war is taking place in the country and will not allow journalists to visit the base.
Each morning, before boarding a bus in the pre-dawn darkness that carries him from the American barracks to the operations center, a half-hour drive deeper into the tightly secured base, Captain Downs prays for his wife and his fellow soldiers and he prays for the Iraqi people.
"Ultimately, I pray for a quick victory," he said.
Inside the antenna-spiked building, Lt. Gen. T. Michael Moseley directs the air war from his "battle cab," which Captain Downs described as a "glassed-in church balcony" overlooking a dim, cavernous room filled with hundreds of people. The most senior officers in the room monitor the war from an elevated platform ringed by desks and the glow of maps and videos projected on the walls.
Captain Downs, 34, and a dozen other members of his shift work in a nearby computer-filled room that they call the "cave," sorting through hundreds of previously approved military targets to find those that will best meet United States and British military objectives in the next 48 hours. Captain Downs said a sign on the door demands a dollar from anyone entering without a mustache.
The air war has come under increasing international criticism as Iraq's civilian death toll mounts. Though President Bush has hailed the "lethal precision" of the air campaign, the Pentagon concedes that innocent people are dying. "In some cases," a Pentagon press release explained this week, "such damage is unavoidable when the regime places military weapons near civilian areas."
Captain Downs was reluctant to talk about civilian deaths, but said his team does review target damage after strikes, primarily to assess whether the target ought to be struck again.
Satellite news channels run continuously on televisions around the operations center, beaming images of the war's progress. Captain Downs said he often sees the destruction he and his colleagues plotted just hours before, particularly in Baghdad.
"I've studied it for a long time, so I certainly know what I'm looking at," Captain Downs said of the Iraqi capital. He is based in Germany but has been on assignment in Saudi Arabia since early February.
But he said the team is too focused to let reports of civilian casualties affect their morale.
"We are very process-oriented, and while we're extremely concerned with collateral damage we have to ensure that we're creating the effect that we've been asked for," he said, adding that it takes time to evaluate bombing damage and "meanwhile we're moving on."
Until recently, the $45 million operations center where Captain Downs works monitored traffic in Iraq's skies and coordinated American and British patrols over the country's southern "no-flight" zone. But the command center was really built to run a war.
More than 128,000 feet of high-speed cable bring real-time data and images from satellites, drones, airborne radar and ground surveillance into the building at up to 100 megabytes per second. About 3,000 computer systems help experts in every field from meteorology to munitions analyze it all.
Captain Downs likens his team's role to that of a funnel, starting with thousands of potential targets catalogued by military intelligence officials, narrowing them down to those that will be attacked in the coming hours. He said care is taken at every step to evaluate the potential danger to
civilians.
"Before the targets even come to me, they have been evaluated by several organizations for proximity to civilian structures," he said.
The team even has a lawyer who reviews each target to make sure attacking it is in compliance with international rules of engagement, which forbid the attacking religious or cultural sites and noncombatants.
Using computer programs that allow them to visualize the battle scene, Captain Downs's team ranks the targets according to importance and urgency and sends the list to a group of officers who check it for effectiveness and the degree of risk to the civilian population. These officers forward the potential targets to General Moseley, who orders which ones will be hit.
On busy days, the team selects hundreds of targets while reviewing the damage to many already struck. Mobile targets, such as Iraqi tanks or armored personnel carriers, have to be tracked in the hours before a strike is made. Captain Downs's team also works closely with the larger operations room on rapid-response attacks, though a separate team handles sensitive attacks such as the attempt to kill Saddam Hussein and other senior Iraqi leaders in the opening salvos of the war.
After Captain Downs is done, another team picks the appropriate munitions for each target and matches them to the appropriate warplanes.
"Everything we do is very precise," Captain Downs said, adding that some targets are as specific as a room in a building. About three-quarters of the munitions dropped on Iraq so far have been precision guided, some with an accuracy of a few feet.
"We take an incredible amount of care to know where every single bomb will land," he said.
As long as the coordinates are entered correctly into the satellite-guided weapons or the laser is aimed accurately for the laser-guided ones, only the chosen target should be destroyed.
Captain Downs said he and his colleagues are in a "battle rhythm" and are "emotionally attached" to what's happening in the war. Their only break comes when they go to eat at a mess hall in another building.
"We feel strongly about what we're doing," he said. "We know that the targets we're looking at and helping to pick will not only help troops in the field but also help us win this war before too long."
By 8 p.m. or sometimes later, Captain Downs is back on the bus headed to his barracks. He slips on earphones to a portable CD player and listens to country or gospel-rock music. Third Day, whose name is a biblical reference to the third millennium, is his favorite group these days.

Acts of Worship
In the spirit of coming together, two of the biggest names in Christian music are stopping in Spokane this week.
Michael W. Smith has won two straight Dove awards as best Christian artist, while Third Day has won best group honors three years in a row.
Now they are joining forces for the "Come Together and Worship" tour, which also features inspirational speaker and author Max Lucado. They appear at the Spokane Arena on Friday.
Smith and Third Day are borrowing a strategy from Hollywood: If it works the first time, make a sequel.
Both have released second installments to successful Christian music albums.
Worship rockers Third Day kicked out "Offerings II," the follow-up to 2000's best-selling "Offerings" album, in just two weeks.
Smith, a pop and gospel singer, released his 16th album, ``Worship Again,'' last fall as a sort of part two to his 2001 ``Worship'' album.
In his home church he is known as a worship leader who guides the singing of hymns. But he is known to the world at large for his more commercial music, including his signature song ``Friends.''
``Most people know me from my pop stuff. Now fans realize I'm a worship leader as well,'' he said during a telephone interview.
Early in his career Smith wrote music for Amy Grant and toured as her musical director before breaking out into a solo venture.
Since then he has produced the platinum albums and racked up 40 Dove Awards (a sort of Christian music version of the Grammys) and two Grammys, and sold more than 9 million records.
Perhaps his biggest honor came shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, when President George W. Bush, a friend and fan, asked Smith to write a patriotic anthem during a performance at the White House.
``It was six weeks after 9/11 and the president said `You oughtta write a song about this,''' Smith said. ``How do you say `no' to the president?''
The song became ``There She Stands,'' an ode to the American flag that flies over his farm.
``I've seen it fly a million times but it takes on a new meaning now,'' said the West Virginia native, who lives in Tennessee.
The song is a bonus track on ``Worship Again.'' The album, only Smith's second all-praise album, is a collection of live modern praise and worship songs.
``It feels different from a worship service but I wanted to have a congregation who are truly worshipping God,'' Smith said of his decision to record the album live. ``Things happen in a live setting that are pretty phenomenal that you can't capture in a studio.''
After album sales unexpectedly took off for their 2000 ``Offerings'' album, the members of Third Day decided to re-create the formula.
So they recorded six new studio tracks in eight days and spliced them together with six songs recorded live.
The Atlanta five-piece produced the album in such a hurry because they wanted to get it out fast and begin touring.
``Fans care a lot less about technical perfection than they do about getting music from a band they're into,'' said Third Day bassist Tai Anderson during a telephone interview.
The result is this year's ``Offerings II: All I Have To Give.'' The album is composed of original songs and covers, such as Bob Dylan's ``Saved'' and U2's ``With Or Without You.''
``It's in the same template as the first `Offerings,' half-studio, half-live,'' Anderson said. ``We tried to make something more rocking and this is more of the same. We like to make those albums outside of our regular album cycle as fan albums.''
Between ``Offerings'' one and two, Third Day also released a full-length studio set, ``Come Together,'' in 2001.
So far, Third Day has received 20 Dove awards and won the 2003 Grammy for best rock gospel album for ``Come Together.''
``There is an intimacy in the way we do worship music,'' Anderson said. ``Our music is accessible. It's not just a lot of Christian vocabulary. We just say what's on our hearts.''
While they're sharing their message onstage, the members of Third Day also use their music to give back to the community.
Through donating a portion of their ticket sales to Habitat for Humanity, Third Day raised more than $230,000 in 2002 and committed to build eight houses in the United States and overseas.
``Just by you being at our show we are coming together to do something for people around the world,'' Anderson said.
Essential Records band Third Day begins recording a new album in the fall for early 2004 release.
Reunion Records artist Smith recently released ``Worship,'' the DVD, recorded earlier this year in Canada before 15,000 youths at YC 2002, an annual multidenominational youth conference.
With more than 28 million books in print, New York Times best-selling author Lucado is a pastor in San Antonio, Texas. His latest book, ``A Love Worth Giving,'' hit stores last August.
We all know that they are in May issue but if you haven't read the article from the mag you can at least see it online.

THIRD DAY RECEIVES HIGH HONORS AT 2003 ASCAP CHRISTIAN MUSIC AWARDS
BAND CLAIMS ‘SONG OF THE YEAR’ AND TWO ‘MOST PERFORMED’ AWARDS
Momentum at Radio Continues As “You Are So Good To Me”
Tops Multiple Charts This Week Becoming Third Day’s 19th No. 1
(Nashville, Tenn.) June 3, 2003 – At a ceremony held in Nashville earlier this week, Essential rock band Third Day was honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP). “Show Me Your Glory,” penned collectively by band members, was named Song of the Year, one of the highest honors of the evening. “Show Me Your Glory” and “It’s Alright,” both having been No. 1 radio hits, were named two of the Society’s 25 Most Performed songs of the year.
Dan Keen, Assistant Vice President for ASCAP, was on hand to congratulate the band on their creative achievements. He noted, “Third Day is a cultural change-agent that has altered the way America worships. It’s one of the preeminent bands that consistently delivers fresh, contemporary worship music that Christians use in church, youth groups, concerts and rallies. This band’s music connects any where and every where. Plus, I like the fact that when it’s time to rock, they rock!”
In addition to the ASCAP honors, Third day also celebrated its nineteenth No. 1 single this week as “You Are So Good To Me” climbed to the top spot on the R&R Adult Contemporary Christian chart while maintaining the lead position, for the fifth consecutive week, on R&R’s Christian Hit Radio chart. This is the first time in Third Day’s 11-year history to have a song at No. 1 on two separate radio charts in the same week.
Bob Thornton, National Program Director for Adonai Radio Group added, “Bands like Third Day don’t come along very often. They have an amazing presence at retail, on tour and at radio. It has been a pleasure to work with this special band and to see their career grow. Radio has been unbelievably supportive and made this song yet another hit to add to Third Day’s resume. We are truly grateful for the key role in the success that radio has played.”

Hey- This may be old news but I just saw the video for Flo the Lyin' Fly in Max Lucado's Hermie Video series. I saw Third Day's picture on the poster so I quickly looked and they are the voice of the band: Water Beetles. Here is the publisher's words about the video:
Reuniting the voice talents of Tim Conway, Don Knotts and Melissa Disney, Flo: The Lyin' Fly is poised for even greater success. Drawing from Proverbs 19:5, which says no one gets away with a lie, Flo the Lyin' Fly sets out to teach children, through incredibly humorous situations, entertaining songs, and cleverly written dialogue, the importance of telling the truth no matter what the circumstance. In addition to not fabricating lies, children will be challenged to not "cry wolf," or even embellish the truth just a little to make themselves look better. Joining the all-star cast is :) Third Day as the Water Beetles :) , Frank Peretti as Puffy the Dragonfly, and Vickie Lawrence as Flo!

Third Day, Keeping the Faith
By Richard Harrington
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, April 16, 2004; Page WE06
SAY, WHAT was a Christian rock band like Third Day doing opening for Southern boogie kings Lynyrd Skynyrd?
"We've always had a core hope and vision for this band to have music that's acceptable by the whole culture," says Third Day bassist Tai Anderson. "We jump at those opportunities. Opening for Skynyrd [last year] in Alabama, which would be culture shock for anybody north of Alabama, was great. We're not used to people holding up a Budweiser in one hand or a No. 8 Dale [Earnhardt] Jr. banner in another, but people were clapping and having a great time. It's a challenge for us, but if you can get up there and hold your own and rock, people will go for it."
Co-founder and lead singer Mac Powell asks a different question: "Being a believer, do you make music just for the church or do you make it outside of that? We had no agenda [at the concert]: just play some music and hopefully not scare them away."
As it turned out, just playing music was not enough for some hard-core Third Day fans. About a month later, as the band was traveling on its tour bus, the musicians were catching up with fan mail.
"And one guy who came to see us at that concert just totally ripped us apart," Powell recalls. " 'I was so embarrassed that you did not share the gospel from the stage. All you did was play your music and get off, and you didn't say anything about Jesus and how dare you? I'm so ashamed of you guys. It felt like a kick in the teeth. I will never listen to Third Day again.'
"And the very next letter was from a girl who was at that same show, and she said, 'I'd never heard of you guys before, but I loved your set so I went and bought your record for my birthday. And I loved it and some of the songs really encouraged me, and I've started to go to church now and seeking God.'
"For us, that's the reason we did that show," Powell says. "It wasn't for the guy we couldn't ever meet his expectations. It was to encourage someone there in their faith. That's what we did, and that's what we want to do."
Powell, Anderson and the other members of Third Day -- drummer David Carr, lead guitarist Brad Avery and guitarist Mark Lee -- have been together since the early '90s and made their debut in 1995 with a self-produced, self-financed, self-distributed album (repackaged a year later by Reunion, then one of the major Christian music labels). With its sophomore effort, 1997's "Conspiracy No. 5," Third Day started getting mainstream attention, with Billboard praising the group as "not only one of the best Christian bands of the '90s but one of the best rock bands, period."
Third Day quickly became a mainstay of Christian radio -- "Sing a Song," from last year's "Offerings II: All I Have to Give," recently became the band's 20th No. 1 in that format -- but also got some airtime on secular stations. It doesn't hurt that Powell has a husky, rough-edged baritone or that the band has a muscular Southern rock sound. Third Day also has won a Grammy and a flock of Doves -- the Gospel Music Association has bestowed 19 of those awards, including three straight for group of the year. Make that hardworking group of the year: The band recently kicked off a 110-date tour that runs into 2005.
May brings Third Day's latest album, "Wire," its first with up-and-coming rock producer Paul Ebersold.
"It's not anything we haven't done before," Powell says. "It's just better, hopefully."
"It better sound different because we worked a lot harder on it," says Anderson with a laugh, pointing out that the new album is a world away from Third Day's debut. "We made that one for three thousand bucks that we'd scraped up over six months of shows. . . . That was our most profitable record, we didn't have much of a bill to pay back!"
On a more serious note, Anderson explains, "We're a band from Atlanta -- American rock but definitely tending towards Southern rock -- and we were just ready to make a great rock record. And we were really impressed with some of the stuff Paul has done with 3 Doors Down and Sister Hazel, pretty similar bands as far as where our influence would be."
Though they are now leaders in that field, neither Anderson nor Powell listened to Christian rock while growing up. Anderson lists his favorite bands as "U2, R.E.M. and, being from Atlanta, Black Crowes and Indigo Girls, and all the cool stuff my dad would play for me -- the Beatles, the Byrds, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers. U2 was my favorite because they so seamlessly blended spirituality with their music.
"As we started, none of us was really familiar with Christian music," Anderson adds. "We had heard of a few artists, but we didn't know there was this whole other genre, though we quickly learned that there was. We wanted to write our own songs, and faith is just a big part of our lives so that's what we were writing a lot about. And we found a market and an audience that really appreciated it."
The Ebersold connection will hopefully break Third Day outside the Christian music scene, though Anderson is quick to affirm the band's loyalty to that community.
"When you start out as a musician or actor or writer, you never say, 'I hope I can put a ceiling on my career or that what I create will only be heard by people who have these values or define themselves this way,' " Anderson says. "Any Christian artist that you talk to would love to see it expand and grow. You see Creed and Sixpence None the Richer and P.O.D., and I think they decided, 'We don't want to be known as a Christian band because it is so limiting.'
"For us, this is where we had our roots, these are the people who've given us a livelihood. What we're trying for is not crossover success but spillover success. We want to make records that the core audience that's been our foundation love because they're looking for that heart message. At the same time, we want to make music for people that don't go to church, for people who say, 'This is a great band, this is a great sound, this is as good or better than anything else I'm listening to.' "
Powell suggests that, historically, contemporary Christian rock has had to overcome perceptions about its quality and "the assumption of people who don't listen to it that's it's not going to be good, or that it's cheesy . . . and that's sometimes been true in the past. I didn't listen to Christian music, so perhaps I had those assumptions also. I just simply wasn't educated about it, but the assumptions I had then, most people, I'm sure, have today also."
In fact, the music and the market have both improved dramatically in the last decade, as the Christian/Gospel genre, traditionally the sixth- or seventh-largest-selling overall, has often outperformed other genres. According to a Recording Industry Association of America survey, it accounts for roughly 6.7 percent of all music sales, outpacing jazz and classical combined. And although the genre has been affected by the industry-wide downturn of the last several years, religious music was the only category to show significant growth between 1993 and 2002, with sales more than doubling in that 10-year span.
Anderson notes that many -- in fact, most of the biggest -- Christian labels are owned by mainstream companies, which has improved the production quality and promotional budgets for Christian music. "Even though that's not the spiritual answer, it's one of many reasons that it's become better," he says. There's also a huge range of Christian music that wasn't as prevalent when Third Day was getting its start.
Still, there's always a delicate line between outreach and entertainment, Powell says.
"I've heard people say in concert, 'We're not here to entertain you, we're here to share this message with you,' " he explains. "It's really not a good thing to say because if you're not there to entertain someone, why are you playing music in the first place? You should be standing on the street corner or preaching from the pulpit. If we're musicians and we want to play music and yet we have a message to share, the first thing to do is know what we believe and why, but as far as the music side, make quality music that is going to open up people's ears to hear that message. I'm not saying the music is more important, but you better make some quality music or people are not going to want to hear you, period, whether you're a Christian band or a mainstream band. If you want to say something, you better say it in a good way that people want to hear."

MOMENTUM BUILDS FOR THIRD DAY AS MAY 4 WIRE RELEASE NEARS
Band Celebrates Successful Tour Launch, Plans Atlanta Album Release Party, Meets with Leaders on Capitol Hill
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – April 23, 2004 – GRAMMY and Dove Award winning rock band Third Day has already set the wheels in motion for the anticipated May 4 release of its seventh studio album, Wire. Momentum has been swiftly building as the band continues to draw near-capacity crowds in the first early days of its 85-city Third Day Live tour with special guests tobyMac and Warren Barfield. The tour has already been seen by more than 50,000 in the first 10 shows.
Tickets for Third Day’s May 3, hometown performance at Atlanta’s Fox Theater sold out quickly, so a second sold-out show was added on May 4, the new album’s street date. Immediately following the May 4 show, Third Day will host a post-concert release party at Atlanta’s historic drive-in restaurant The Varsity to celebrate the release of Wire.
In the midst of excitement surrounding the tour and upcoming album release, Third Day has remained busy, recently visiting with key Washington D.C. contacts at a special media dinner in Fairfax, Va., before the band’s concert there. Attending the dinner with Third Day were representatives from the State Department, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), DATA, World Vision, Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum’s office, Tennessee Representative Bill Frist’s office and the Associated Press.
Following the Fairfax, Va., concert on April 18, the members of Third Day spent the following day in Washington, D.C., where they visited FOX News anchor Tony Snow, took a White House tour and met with Senator Santorum’s office to discuss their efforts and DATA’s efforts in the Africa AIDS crisis. Third Day’s schedule also included a meeting with the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and lunch with Drew Ryun, the Republican National Committee’s Director of Grassroots Development. The weekend culminated with the band’s press conference on Monday, as part of MTV’s “Choose or Lose” campaign to encourage young people to get out and vote.
As Third Day continues on its successful tour run, the band is slated to hit major markets including Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Seattle and Little Rock, among others. The band makes a stop in Nashville this Saturday, April 24, where it will perform just prior to Gospel Music Week. The concert takes place at Starwood Ampitheater and is sponsored by Chevrolet with WAY-FM promoting the show as part of its annual “WAYFEST 2004.”
“We’re really excited about the Nashville show this weekend,” says Third Day bassist Tai Anderson. “We wanted to make sure we got to play in front of the GMA crowd because that’s a group of people who have supported us all along the way, and we don’t get a chance to see them that much. It’s a great opportunity for us be with friends and to say thanks.”
Here is the pic of the award. Congrats to the band!

Band Performs Title Track to May 4Wire On Show, Receives Honors For Long Form Music Video and Praise & Worship Album Bringing Career Dove Award Count to 21

April 29, 2004 – GRAMMY and Dove Award winning rock band Third Day was honored last night at the 35th Annual Gospel Music Awards with Dove Awards for Long Form Music Video category for Third Day Live In Concert, The Come Together Tour and in the Praise and Worship Album Category for Gold selling Offerings II – All I Have To Give. In addition, the band was recently honored with an RIAA platinum certification for its first worship album, Offerings – A Worship Album.
Tai Anderson, bass player for Third Day and executive producer for the Dove Award-winning DVD noted, “We’re honored to have been recognized by the Gospel Music Association. Both of these recordings were very special to us because they were projects we created for our fans. We’re tremendously honored to have been recognized.”
Third Day is also impacting at radio with “Come On Back To Me,” the first single off of its upcoming May 4 release, Wire. The single, on the charts just two weeks, has already hit no. 13 on the Radio and Records (R&R) CHR chart and has climbed to no. 8 on the Christian Radio and Retail Weekly (CRW) chart for the week ending April 25. Ok folks, here it is..........the download you've all been waiting for. It's from a 1995 concert outside The Mustard Seed bookstore somewhere in Georgia if I'm correct. The track is about 11 minutes long and it starts with "Did Ya Mean It" then "Mama" then finishes up with Mac horsing around and doing a little "Almost Heaven" by John Denver. I know some of you had trouble downloading from here before. Here's a tip; do not double click the song icon to download. Simply click and drag the song icon into a folder on your computer and it will copy to that folder. Here's the link and password info. If the link doesn't work, just type in the address manually.

THIRD DAY ROLLS OUT PLANS FOR 44-CITY LIVE WIRE TOUR FEATURING TOBYMAC AND SPECIAL GUESTS DAY OF FIRE, HYPER STATIC UNION
Fall Tour Sponsors Include Chevrolet, World Vision and Habitat for Humanity
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) August 13, 2004 – GRAMMY and Dove Award winning rock band Third Day is rolling out the plans for its anticipated 44-city Live Wire Tour, which kicks off Sept. 30 in Champaign, Ill. The tour will hit arenas and coliseums in major markets across the country including Chicago, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Detroit, Jacksonville, Knoxville, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Colorado Springs and many more, wrapping up on Dec. 11.
Returning to tour with Third Day this fall will be rock/hip-hop innovator tobyMac, who will be introducing new music from his forthcoming project, Welcome to Diverse City. Brand new rockers Day of Fire will be special guest openers during the tour’s first half, while the Camas, Wash.-based indie band Hyper Static Union will round out the line-up during the last half of the tour.
“I really couldn’t be more excited about this fall tour,” says Third Day’s Mac Powell. “Not only are we going to be able to play some new music for our fans, we’ll be able to hear some new music from one of my favorite artists and touring mates, tobyMac. With the success of the spring tour, we are expectant of even bigger and better things.”
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be back out on tour with the guys in Third Day,” says tobyMac. “We had a great time onstage as well as backstage during the spring tour and now with us both having new albums out I feel like this tour is going to go to the next level. We ’bout to blow this thing up for real!”
Continuing its long-term relationship with Third Day, Chevrolet will again sponsor the Live Wire Tour. Additional tour partners include World Vision, with a focus on its Hope Child Initiative, and Habitat for Humanity. Third Day will be donating $1 per ticket toward Habitat’s foreign and domestic aid, focusing primarily on African areas hit with the AIDS/HIV pandemic.
“We can’t wait to kick off this fall season, as it promises to be one of the most rocking musical experiences in Third Day’s career history,” says manager David Huffman, chief operating officer of Creative Trust, Inc. “Our friends at Chevrolet will provide some of the most innovative electronic tour marketing to date. The band will be working diligently to raise awareness of our social and faith-based responsibilities to vote in the upcoming election; to educate and meet needs about the AIDS pandemic through World Vision; and to generate revenue and opportunity to build homes both domestically and internationally through Habitat for Humanity. Our whole team is wired in every area.”
When purchasing tickets to the Live Wire Tour, concertgoers will have the option to buy general admission tickets that allow floor access for a standing-room-only section of each venue. This ticket option became a huge hit with Third Day fans during the band’s spring tour, with the special general admission ticket sales increasing as word-of-mouth spread.
“We had an incredible spring tour and are excited about continuing that momentum in the fall,” says Third Day’s Tai Anderson. “We will be providing fans with the best value in a show, period! The general admission seating has added a whole new level of Third Day fan interaction.”
“Third Day consistently provides a top-notch performance not only because they enjoy what they do, but because they want to be sure their audience will walk away feeling the very same emotion,” adds promoter Michael Scanland, of Concert Services, Inc. “They go the extra mile when it comes to interviews and pre-promoting their appearances. We’ve just wrapped up several major festival dates with Third Day and had some of the best attendances in the history of the events! But most importantly, the message of hope and redemption they provide to the audience shines through in powerful presentation void of pretension or reluctance. Thank you, Third Day and Toby! We look forward to the fall tour!”
The Live Wire Tour follows the hugely successful release of Third Day’s latest studio album, Wire, earlier this year on Essential Records. Debuting at No.1 on Nielsen SoundScan’s Top Christian Albums chart and No. 12 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart in its first week, Wire has shipped nearly 450,000 units in just three months. In addition to a 2004 GRAMMY nomination for Offerings II – All I Have to Give, and being referred to as the ‘touring band of the year’ by promoters for the past three years, Third Day was also honored with an American Music Award nomination (2003). The band received a GRAMMY in 2003 for Come Together and honors from ASCAP in the Song of the Year category. Over its 11-year career, the five-piece rock band has garnered 19 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, 20 No.1 radio singles and is nearing the four million mark in career sales. Third Day’s success on tour is unparalleled with an audience of more than 750,000 in 2002 and ranking twice on touring magazine Pollstar’s “Top 100 Tours of 2002” list, above acts like Counting Crows and Alanis Morissette. For updated Third Day information, please visit www.ThirdDay.com.
TobyMac will be touring in support of his brand new ForeFront/EMI-CMG release, Welcome to Diverse City, which hits stores on Oct. 5. As co-founder of one of the most successful Christian groups of all time, dcTalk, tobyMac has sold over seven million records, received four GRAMMY Awards and numerous Dove Award nominations and wins. TobyMac’s solo debut, Momentum, entered at No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart achieved two No. 1 singles (“Extreme Days” and “Somebody’s Watching Me”), a GRAMMY Award nomination and more than 15 Dove Award nominations (with six wins). For more information on tobyMac, please log on to www.tobymac.com.
Day of Fire recently wrapped recording on its national self-titled debut, releasing Oct. 26 on Essential Records. Frontman Joshua Brown is the former lead singer of mainstream rock band Full Devil Jacket (Island/Def Jam Records) who turned away from his rock-star lifestyle after surviving a heroin overdose and surrendering his life to God while in rehabilitation. Day of Fire is currently performing on the main stage at major festivals this summer including Atlantafest, ALIVE Fest, Creation East, Creation West and Spirit West Coast. The band’s first radio single is set to release in August to CHR/Rock formats.
Hyper Static Union’s propulsive sound comes from a fusion of funk and rock, drawn from influences as diverse as Stevie Wonder and James Brown to The Foo Fighters and Lenny Kravitz. The five-man band, fronted by singer Shawn Lewis, has developed a dedicated following in the Northwest thanks to opening slots for artists such as Michael W. Smith, Eve 6, Better Than Ezra and Switchfoot, and are working on the follow-up to their 2003 independent release Entropy Automatic.

My dad actually sent me a link to a video interview that Third Day did(Thanks to my dad!!!) and I watched it just now.
I'm not sure if anyone's seen this before, but if you go to http://www.teen-connection.info/teen/TCMain.html and then go to where it says "media library" near the top and go down to see "Third Day" and click on it. You have to have quicktime, but it's totally worth it.
EDIT: Actually go to the link, click on the "Russ Ortiz" interview, then click "click for more" then do the steps above;)
The interview was done right after Time, and besides the fact that it's really funny at the beginning(just listen to David introduce himself--does it remind you of the CT DVD?) it's a really good interview.
And it really is a good testimony of God planting a seed in someone's heart and having it sprout later on. Besides the fact that Mark says "Come Together", Mac totally talks about ministering to non-Christians and how they wish they could do that with encouragement from the church and not condemnation.
Check it out, it's so worth it!

Here's an article on the GOP Convention site about the entertainers that will appear at the RNC. (http://www.gopconvention.com/contents/newsroom/releases/082304.shtml) One of the things it says is, "Brooks & Dunn, Lee Ann Womack, Third Day and each of the entertainers participating in New York bring enjoyment to millions of fans and we are honored to showcase those talents during our convention." I think it's cool that they mentioned Third Day there.
At the end of the Third Day part of it, they have a link to the online chat that Tai did this summer. Here is the link. (http://www.gopconvention.com/contents/goplive/chats/060304_thirdday/) The Sarah from Durham, NC is mercyGurl. :)

Third Day keeps balance -- and sponsorship, too
By David Lindquist
The image on the cover of Third Day's current album, "Wire," shows a tightrope walker in action above an urban skyline.
As a visual metaphor, the scene may apply to the Christian rock band as it balances social awareness and corporate sponsorship.
Vocalist-guitarist Mac Powell, guitarists Mark Lee and Brad Avery, bass player Tai Anderson and drummer David Carr are high-profile supporters of AIDS relief organizations.
Meanwhile, Third Day is one of few acts -- Christian or otherwise -- to be underwritten by an "official vehicle."
The band's Web site promises that one lucky fan soon will win "Third Day's Chevy Cobalt" sports car. And Carr's bass drum will be adorned by Chevrolet's famed bowtie logo when the group performs Thursday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
The mix of generosity and consumerism seems to be paying off for the quintet that brings Southern-rock grit to tunes based on unity and forgiveness. "Wire" debuted in May at No. 12 on Billboard magazine's albums chart.
Lee recently chatted with The Star about topics such as Indianapolis' new Christian music radio station -- "the Song," WISG-FM (93.9) -- and Third Day's Georgia roots.
Question: Your band has been active in raising awareness about AIDS in Africa. How did you get involved with that?
Answer: We've been working with Habitat for Humanity for a few years. We were invited to be part of the Jimmy Carter work project in South Africa. Our bass player, Tai, and I went down there. You can't go to sub- Saharan Africa and not see the impact AIDS has on that area.
We thought it would be cool if we could figure out a way to get involved and sort of get the word out. You just don't hear about it on the news very much. It's such a huge problem, but it's not talked about very much over here.
On this tour, we've partnered with World Vision. So many parents in Africa have died from AIDS, World Vision is helping orphans with education and generally focusing on the next generation.
Then, a few weeks later, Bono from U2 was meeting with artists in Nashville. A couple of us were able to go to that. His DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa) program is more of a write-your-Congressman approach.
It's such a huge problem. The Sally Struthers model of giving out $20 a month is a cool thing, but it's not enough. You have to get governments to step in.
We're just glad to do any small thing we can to help out.
Q: On the other end of the social spectrum, your Chevrolet sponsorship seems to be rather prominent in what the band is doing right now.
A: It seemed to be sort of controversial when we started working with them in 2002. That tour was called "Come Together and Worship." For a lot of people that didn't actually see the show, their perception was that Chevrolet was coming in to sponsor a church service. In reality, it was a rock concert.
The way we look at it, it's been great to have Chevrolet help us put on a great show. The production is as good as anything else that will probably be in that venue (Conseco) this year. But if you look at the ticket prices ($30 and $27), it's probably half of the average (arena show).
That's where the Chevrolet sponsorship comes in. Our fans don't have to go get a loan before coming to the show.
It's been a cool thing for a big company like that to recognize that our genre is a valid thing. Our fans buy and drive cars just like anyone else. It gives a level of validity to what we're doing.
Q: Indianapolis has a new Christian music radio station owned by a company that also operates highly popular country and oldies stations. How important is it for a band like yours to have that kind of radio station in a metropolitan area?
A: More and more cities have big Christian radio stations. We're able to tell -- it's very obvious where there's a good radio station and where there's not. You can tell by the reaction of the fans. They know our music and they're able to track with the show a lot better.
Q: Has Third Day's Southern rock sound been an advantage in terms of letting people know you're different than other bands?
A: All along, I think that's been a big defining part of the band. Being from Atlanta, combined with Mac's distinctive voice, was an advantage. People were able to turn on the radio and after a couple of times say, "Oh, that's that Third Day group." It was different than anything else you heard.
It can be a disadvantage, too. A friend of mine once said, "It's OK to be trendy as long as you keep up with the trend."
Well, we're not really a trendy kind of thing. Sometimes Southern rock is really big, and sometimes it's not. Right now, there are a few retro-sounding artists out, so it's kind of cool to be doing that kind of music. We're glad to be a part of that.
It's not like we're an Allman Brothers cover band or something like that.
What we do is modern-sounding. The fact that we're from Georgia and we have three guys in the band who play guitar -- it's going to tend to be in that Southern realm.

okay i have a site that has some interviews and the like between Third Day (who else?!?!) and Mike Saeffer, very funny guy...here is the link if i do this right to where you can find the interviews
http://www.air1.com/mikeInABox
there was also and interview where the radio, Air1 was interviewing Mike i'll post the question and answer b/c it mentions Third Day and is very, very funny :D
Air1: Do you have any favorite interviews from the last year?
Mike: Oh, yeah! Tait at the GMA’s. Michael Tait came into the studio with a slight "tude" and we had a lot of fun with it. Of course, Third Day: they were great! It was pure insanity – a zoo! I could ask them one question and they would go on for five minutes. They could talk forever about stupid stuff, like, how Mac Powell is lactose intolerant. Oh, and they said, on the air, that my mom was hot!
that is all i have found enjoy! :D
This link has Third Day as best band as voted on by their readers. Interesting that 62% of all voters are female in their music surveys. Just thought that interesting.

Thought that this was pretty cool coming from a secular website.
"My No. 1 pick is Third Day's "Christmas Offerings," which is the rock group's first Yuletide effort and combines both live and studio versions of classics as well as four of the band's original songs. Mac Powell's knack for making anything he belts out sound praiseworthy is the reason this group's been successful for 15 years."

I've lost 2 (have THREE great kids also), but my nephew's wife was nearly 8 mos along when she learned their baby had died. Fans of the mega-popular Christian rock band Third Day will see what amounts to a "new/old" group when it visits the Classic Center in Athens today.
The band's Web site (www.thirdday.com) announced in early March that guitarist Brad Avery, who joined Third Day in 1995, has now departed, with the other members carrying on with their original four-man lineup.
"It wasn't an overnight decision," says bassist Tai Anderson of Avery's departure. "It was sort of a 'different paths' kind of thing. It's not a TMZ scandal - it's just a new season for everyone. We're back to the original four guys that were together for three years before he joined."
Avery was a profound contributor to the Atlanta-based band's upcoming "Revelation" album, which will be released in July, but his former colleagues have opted at this time not to replace him.
"Brad gave us our signature sound," says Anderson, whose band mates include Mac Powell (vocals, guitar), Mark Lee (guitar) and David Carr (drums). "We desperately needed him. We couldn't even tune our guitars properly before he joined. We've got nothing but good things to say about him. We talked about a possible replacement, but we've played six shows without him and it feels great - it feels like there's more space for everything.
"We don't have plans for another guitar player. Some fans have expressed concern because Brad's got a lot of fans and some people want conflict where there isn't any. We could have gone for a quick fix and we'll add somebody if we feel we need to. But the shows we've done have been so phenomenal that no one is thinking about bringing anybody else in."
It is perhaps fitting that there be some change in the multiple Grammy and Dove Award-winning band, as last year represented the ending of one chapter with the release of two greatest hits albums, "Chronology" and "Chronology: Volume Two."
"I don't know of any band that gets all excited about a greatest hits album," Anderson says. "But it was something the label could do and was going to do. I always feel like greatest hits albums are the end ... of something. It's either the end of a chapter or the end of a band. I've still got a big mortgage and five kids to feed, so I'm glad it's the end of a chapter."
Although Third Day has sold millions of albums and has dedicated fans everywhere, Anderson said he and his bandmates are taking nothing for granted as they prepare for the release of "Revelation."
"We went up to Dave Matthews' studio in Charlottesville, Va., for a week and talked about where we're going," he says. "This is the hardest we've ever worked on a record. We look at this as being a new beginning and that we have to go out and earn it all over again. When our first album came out, we did 250 shows that year because we were hungry and we were starving. We're approaching what we're doing now with the same urgency. We want to dig in and earn it."
Originally established as an acoustic duo by Powell and Lee when both were fresh out of Cobb County's McEachern High School, Third Day hasn't played in Athens since a University Union concert at the University of Georgia some 10 years ago. Anderson says the band is playing smaller markets in anticipation of the release of "Revelation," which will lead to a coast-to-coast tour with "sacred steel" player Robert Randolph opening selected shows.
"We haven't played Athens nearly enough," says Anderson, who adds his wife is a UGA graduate and he's attended a number of Bulldogs football games through the years. "With the album coming out in July, we wanted to go to some towns where we don't normally go. We'll save the big cities for when the album comes out. We're really excited to be coming back to Athens after all this time - to do a proper show in Athens is cool."
Since Third Day's concert is scheduled for Good Friday, Anderson says the band plans to have some special material planned for the occasion.
"We did a Good Friday show at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta not too long ago and played two songs - 'Thief' and 'Carry My Cross' - that just gave me goosebumps when we played them," he says. "We really want to do something great."

Third Day rocks Decatur Baptist Church
Posted by Chris Welch March 08, 2008 1:33 PM
I'm sure Decatur Baptist Church is a hip church, but I doubt if it's ever rocked like it did Friday night.
It was loud.
And, it was packed, every seat, pew, whatever, in the beautiful church that probably seats around 1,500 or so folks. There were young and old at this concert, one of the fun things about Christian concerts it's a family activity.
The concert opened with relatively new bands Revive, December Radio and then followed with Sanctus Real and the headliners, Third Day.
All the bands were good, but I was really interested in Sanctus Real and Third Day. The guys from Sanctus Real did a great job, especially considering lead singer Matt Hammitt said he'd been sick for a few days. They played hits like "I'm Not All Right" and got the group worked up for Third Day.
Third Day took the stage and lead singer Mac Powell opened with "This is Who I Am," and those who have heard Powell and Third Day know he's got quite a distinctive voice. It's deep, strong and passionate and one of the best things about Third Day. He told the crowd he was from Alabama (Montgomery), and of course, that got them even more fired up.
He continued with hits like "This is Who I Am," "I Gotta Feeling," "Rockstar," "Come on Back to Me," "I Believe," "I'll Always be True, "I've Always Loved You," "King of Glory," "Your Love O Lord," "Tunnel," "Consuming Fire," "God of Wonders," "My hope is You," I Gotta Feelin'."
On "God of Wonders," Third Day got one of the singers from Revive to come out, I believe it was Dave Hanbury, and sing the lead part and he did a good job.
The guys also played a few songs from their upcoming new album, which Powell says has been pushed back to a July release date. One of those was the title track, "Revelation" that Powell said the band had never played live, but it sounded good.
Third Day also threw in a song they said they hadn't played live for a while, "Blackbird," after getting a request from a fan earlier in the day. They met the fan while they were chowing down on Big Bob Gibson's BBQ, which I agree, is some of the best BBQ in North Alabama.
Third Day, of course, came back for an encore with just Powell and guitarist Mark Lee singing "Just to Be With You." The rest of the band joined and ended with "The Other Side" and "Creed."
Afterward, I chatted with Powell and guitarist Tai Anderson and they couldn't have been more gracious and real. My pastor, John Tanner of Cove Methodist Church, had also sent me a text (John, didn't know you were that high-tech), mentioning that his brother was Powell's pastor in Atlanta. I showed Powell the text and he smiled and texted John back.
"Where were you, John?"
I agree, those who missed the show missed a fun night.

Third Day and the Myriad impress in Anaheim
The top Christian rock act and an up-and-coming band from Seattle both deliver strong sets.

Outside it was cold and raining, but inside the House of Blues Anaheim on Thursday night a capacity-crowd was warmed by a strong set from headliner Third Day and a groundbreaking appearance from relative newcomer the Myriad.
One of Christian music's most successful rock outfits, Third Day came to Anaheim as part of a short six-date club tour to gear up for a full-fledged spring tour. So while the band only played 75 minutes, fans were treated to the band's best-known hits, as well as some particularly promising songs set for release on the band's next studio release.
Third Day has honed a Southern rock sound that is rooted in the territory of Lynyrd Skynyrd but also boasts a heavy guitar crunch associated with neo-grunge bands such as Three Doors Down and Creed. That doesn't tell the full story, since Third Day's material is always melodic and features uplifting choruses that draw comparisons to U2's approach.
The band explored the full range of its sonic territory, playing the scorching "Rockstar," midtempo material such as "Who I Am" and praise songs ("King of Glory," "God of Wonders") that had many in the audience lifting their arms into the air.
Singer Mac Powell sang with power and conviction throughout the night, his baritone showcased on the soaring "Tunnel" and "My Hope Is You."
The group also played several new songs, with "Call My Name" especially effective with its undeniable chorus.
The Myriad is a young, up-and-coming band out of Seattle whose sound draws comparisons with the Cure, Radiohead and Snow Patrol, but is unique enough to warrant the band's growing buzz.
"A Clean Shot," one of the six songs performed by the band, was a highlight of the 30-minute set. But the lush and artful sound made by the quintet is as much a part of the Myriad as the songs themselves. Following the lead of Sigur Ros, the band even used a violin bow on the electric guitar at times to dramatic effect.
The Myriad is set to release "With Arrows, With Poise" on Koch Records in April and based on the group's wonderful set in Anaheim, it should rank on one of the most anticipated rock albums of 2008.
The night's opening group Revive performed a short set of four songs. The Australian group is one of the Christian rock's emerging voices and has a strong card in lead singer Dave Hanbury, whose impressive voice was especially forceful on the riff rock-styled "Can't Change Yesterday."

Grammy Award-winning band Third Day performs for MNC-I troops
By Sgt. Laura Bigenho, 28th PAD
CAMP VICTORY, Iraq–Five guys, a music set and the desire to serve was all it took for hundreds of troops to come together for a day of fellowship Jan. 19.
Grammy Award-winning Christian rock band Third Day spent the third day of its God and Country Tour at Victory Base Complex, Iraq, mingling with troops, signing autographs and performing.
Bass guitarist Tai Anderson said God put it on their hearts to do something for the military years ago. He added getting here was not easy.
“We ran into some people who were worried it might be offensive to perform here,” Anderson said. “Being a Christian band, there’s a question of what is the appropriate role of faith in the public square.”
Mac Powell, vocalist and guitarist, said the Air Force Chaplaincy and USO did a lot of work behind the scenes to make their visit a reality. Powell said it didn’t take long to make a decision when the USO invited them to Iraq.
“What an honor it is to be here in the first place,” Powell said. “Then to hear that we’re the first Christian rock band to come here on top of that is pretty amazing.”
Anderson said the band came with two missions. The first was to entertain and encourage troops. The second was to take the troops’ stories back.
“Everyone we’ve met has asked us to tell their story,” Anderson said. “That’s where the second half of our job is – to tell our fans and friends about the great work troops are doing and about the incredible people who are here.”
Troops received more than they bargained for when Third Day arrived at Al Faw Palace to meet with them for photos and autographs. Fans followed them to the Sports Oasis Dining Facility where the band performed an acoustic set between dining and talking with Soldiers at a prayer luncheon.
For longtime fan Spc. James Loomis, California National Guard, sitting at the same table as Tai Anderson was a bit nerve wracking at first. The infantryman said he was nearly speechless when Anderson sat next to him.
“I actually ate two scoops of ice cream as a comfort food,” Loomis joked.
Loomis said he warmed up to Anderson after the band member casually engaged him conversation.
Powell helped others relax by thanking troops and taking song requests. “Maybe you’re not on the front lines and maybe you’re not shooting weapons, but you are giving your life away for a certain amount of time for your country, your Family, your friends and for people you don’t even know,” Powell said. “That’s an amazing sacrifice.”
Troops joined Powell in singing the hits “God of Wonders,” and “I’ve Always Loved You.”
A concert at the Camp Liberty Field House satisfied the audience with an evening of singing, worship and a surprise performance. Midway through the show, Powell invited the Victory Contemporary Protestant praise and worship team, Joyful Noez, to join Third Day onstage. The band handed over their instruments and asked Joyful Noez to lead in the song, “You Are So Good To Me.”
Staff Sgt. Lenny DeJesus, air field management noncommissioned officer, Multi-National Corps – Iraq, said being onstage with Third Day was a dream come true.
“When Mac Powell called us up to go on stage, I thought we were just going to sing along,” he said. “But when Third Day handed us their instruments, it was an incredible blessing.”
DeJesus said he was overwhelmed to sing shoulder-to-shoulder with Powell at first, but overcame that feeling when he went back to a worship state of mind for the remainder of the show.
