Mac made a few references to his less-than-stellar physical health, one time asking us to pray for his voice and his strength, another time even saying that he was in bed all day. Amazing then, that this show was so good. I've been to eight shows, and I hardly noticed any difference at all in his voice. When I went up near the stage from our Row G seats toward the end of the concert, I noticed he looked a bit pale, but we sure got our money's worth.
There were a number of really memorable touches to this show:
-- Midway through, the stage went dark, and a minute or two later, the band reappeared on a riser near the back of the arena. They breezed through a neat little acoustic set, even taking suggestions from the crowd and playing short snippets of some songs.
-- We didn't get Lacey Mosely on "Run to You," but we got Laura Story, who appeared earlier on the Glory Revealed segment. I don't find her voice nearly as appealing as Lacey's -- either as a soloist or in tandem with Mac -- but it did add something that we didn't hear on the Music Rebuilds tour.
-- Bethany Olds played a pretty mean violin and added some great vocals on "God of Wonders."
-- The entire Glory Revealed crew was fantastic. You could really discern their pure hearts for God in the way they described the songs they recorded -- the act of breathing pure Scripture back to us -- and in the video where they spent a week in a cabin in Georgia recording the songs.
-- Mac spent more time than usual praying. Maybe that was due to feeling weak and not up to loud singing, but nothing wrong with more time at the throne of God.
Overall, I thought Third Day was much better in this Houston show than it was during the Music Rebuilds stop. The only puzzling thing was the attendance. The entire upper deck was empty. They could have held this in a church, because there couldn't have been more than 5,000 people here. What happened to the days when they drew 15,000 to the Woodlands Pavilion? Is this just a function of the dreadful economy?
And for the first time ever, I took a camera. I've never posted photos here, and when I tried, it was unsuccessful. I noticed that the max file size allowed is 100kb. Is that why? Can I reduce the size of my files to post here?
