Marc Grizzard, of Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina, says that the first King James translation of the Bible is the only true declaration of God’s word, and that all others are “satanic”.
Pastor Grizzard and 14 other members of the church plan to burn copies of the other “perversions” of Scripture on Halloween, 31 October.
The New Revised Version Bible, the American Standard Version Bible, and even the New King James Version are all pronounced to be works of the Devil by Pastor Grizzard and his followers.
Pastor Grizzard said: “I believe the King James version is God’s preserved, inspired, inerrant, infallible word of God… for English-speaking people.
“We are burning books that we believe to be Satanic.”
As well as inappropriate translations from the original Hebrew and Aramaic, the pastor and his associates will be burning books by various Christian authors, as well as music of every genre.
“[We will be burning] books by a lot of different authors who we consider heretics, such as Billy Graham, Rick Warren… the list goes on and on,” Pastor Grizzard told reporters.
Mother Teresa is also on the list of Satanic authors. The full list is available at the Amazing Grace Baptist Church's website.
Not all Canton residents are thrilled with the bonfire of the profanities. Judy Kirby, a local, said: “I think some of the newer versions make it easier for people to understand.”
The book-burning is hoped to be a social event, with a barbecue laid on for attendees. It is not clear whether the meat will be grilled over the heat of burning Gospels.

The question is, which King James version is the inspired one? The 1611 version, or later versions? ;)
That's okay... this guy is a dying breed who has already lost the war. This guy and his group reminds me of the Japanese regiments living in the jungles of New Guinea thinking that WWII was still going on even after their country had already surrendered. :D

In the Gospels, people appealed to Jesus for all sorts of healings.
Do you think He only heals certain things? I'm puzzled by your question.
Besides, there's no proof this church is full of mentally ill people. The word is deceived. In bondage. And Jesus did say He came to free people from bondage.

Freedom of speech is a sucky thing sometimes. It's people like him who give Christians a bad name.

So if an English translation is the only one, then people who speak Spanish, Russian, or the other 300 or so languages are just outta luck, I guess.
If so, should we rip out all those verses that say that the gospel will preached to every tongue, tribe, and nation?

the article goes on to say that it is the authoritative version for English speaking people. but still how can they make such a claim about a translation with known mistakes in it. I do however think KJV gets it right in a few critical places. John 1:18 and Gal. 2:20 to give two examples.

The word heaven should be heavens.
May not be a big deal, but if this is supposedly the only truly accurate translation, it sure gets off to a disappointing start.

Hey I agree with you on this. I was only pointing out what Rock was wondering about. Apparently this pastor hasn't done much research on the subject, or the writer of the article should have left out the term "first".
My parents lost support from a couple of KJV only churches because they found out that the spanish Bible they use (Reina Valera) isn't translated directly from the KJV.

Ever try reading the 1611?
Rom 8:12 Therfore brethren, we are detters, not to the flesh, to liue after the flesh.
Rom 8:13 For if ye liue after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the spirit doe mortifie the deeds of the body, ye shall liue.
It's a mouthful.
This whole thing is so ridiculous it's not even really funny.
How could a translation be more inspired than the original? How can a translation be inspired at all? A transliteration, maybe, but not a translation.
This reminds me of the movie Footloose.

This exerpt from the forward of the 1611 KJV bible says it all in my opinion, particularly the part I highlighted.
"There are infinite arguments of this right Christian and Religious affection in your Maiestie: but none is more forcible to declare it to others, then the vehement and perpetuated desire of the accomplishing and publishing of this Worke, which now with all humilitie we present vnto your Maiestie. For when your Highnesse had once out of deepe iudgment apprehended, how conuenient it was, That out of the Originall sacred tongues, together with comparing of the labours, both in our owne and other forreigne Languages, of many worthy men who went before vs, there should be one more exact Translation of the holy Scriptures into the English tongue; your Maiestie did neuer desist, to vrge and to excite those to whom it was commended, that the worke might be hastened, and that the businesse might be expedited in so decent a maner, as a matter of such importance might iustly require."
Or this if you prefer.
"There are infinite arguments of this right Christian and Religious affection in your majesty: but none is more forcible to declare it to others, then the vehement and perpetuated desire of the accomplishing and publishing of this Work, which now with all humility we present unto your majesty. For when your highness had once out of deep judgment apprehended, how convenient it was, That out of the original sacred tongues, together with comparing of the labors, both in our own and other foreign languages, of many worthy men who went before us, there should be one more exact translation of the Holy scriptures into the English tongue; your majesty did never desist, to urge and to excite those to whom it was commended, that the work might be hastened, and that the business might be expedited in so decent a maner, as a matter of such importance might justly require."
If the translators of the 1611-KJV utilized other translations, why shouldn't we?

One orthodox priest answered my question on Bible accuracy with...
"In order to understand 100%, you need to know the language it was written in..."
In other words...to truly know the Bible....you hsould know Greek and Hebrew and read the orginal texts....
I'm not sure I agree or believe this...but it sure is an interesting concept...

And the real problem there is that there are no original texts left in existance.
So they will argue that if we are going to rely on God to preserve the bible for us then why not trust he preserved the KJV. Its a bit of a sticky wicket as they say on Monty Python.

Some things could be lost in transcription as well. Just because it's in the original languages doesn't garauntee it's exactly identical to the original documents.
No matter which side of this particular fence you are on, it still requires faith.

Very true and in the early Church there was no printing press and people copied portions of scripture to take back to their churches and the problem was that often pastors made notes in the margines of their texts and at times people copied the notes of the bishops thinking that they were part of scripture that is why there are so many notes in our bibles that say "some manuscripts omit bla bla bla or some manuscripts add bla bla bla"

Yours, and Middletree's post appears to indicate that I might have come off as a jackass in my post. I'm simply pointing out what the article says. He's obviously wrong, and hasn't done his research, or the author of the article doesn't know what the first KJV really was.
Not only interesting spellnig rules, but also HUGE mistranslations and omitions.
