4/15 - Des Moines, IA
I think I've mentioned it before, but we've played Iowa a LOT lately. If my calculations are correct (they usually aren't!) we've played Iowa 5 times in just over a year. And I THINK we've played 5 different cities. We've jokingly referred to it as the Iowa Mountain Tour. It's an inside joke from a film called Off the Charts...
As many times as we've been to Iowa over the years, and specifically this past year, I can't say that I've ever been to downtown Des Moines before. And it's pretty cool. We ate at a cool joint for lunch and walked around town a bit. It was a beautiful day in Iowa today...
I personally spent about 2 1/2 hours on stage this afternoon. I got a rad new piece of gear. I won't get into guitar geekdom too much at this point, but it will make my onstage life a little easier...
David, Scotty and myself went to a KILLER seafood restaurant called Splash. It's right across from the Civic Center where we played. If you live in Des Moines or travel there anytime soon, you owe it to yourself!
Really good show tonight. I don't know why, but it's always surprising to see how much Iowans get into the show. Another cool thing about playing the Midwest is that people aren't afraid to drive to a show. We met people from Minnesota, Nebraska and Missouri tonight, in addition to the crazy Iowa folks in the audience.
I think the highlight from tonight (as it often is) was bringing Brandon Heath and Dave from Revive up onstage to do God of Wonders. It's a real moment. We also did the "full" version of I've Always Loved You and also the "full" Love Song (if you can call it that) with me playing acoustic. It's fun when we get to do the acoustic set, but it was a nice change of pace tonight. BTW - apologies go out to the folks that held up the Billy Brown sign tonight. We have NEVER played that song live, so we don't remember the chords! Next time...
Well, after a short 2 day run, we're headed home to GA for a day off then back out for three more. Next stop, Macon, Georgia. Home of some of the coolest music ever created. If you don't know what I'm talking about, do a Google search on Capricorn Records :)

Last night's show was the best I've seen, and it's our 5th. It was more than a show, but a true worship experience. I was so moved. Mac did a great job with the little jokes. I think that's the most fun I've seen him have in his dialogue.
I'm looking forward to Billy Brown done live. I hope you reserve the first live performance for us Iowans! We love you guys!
Brandon Heath was also unbelievable! I was looking forward to hearing him live and he did not let me down one bit!
