Score:
Third Day 7
Grateful Dead 6
These numbers just blow me away.
Definitely NOT a review since I'm tone deaf.
Many references are being made to the Spencer show on March 6th.
I am only putting in comments for certain songs and will try to hilite each band member at least once..
For comparison here's the set list: http://www.thirdday.com/boards/showthread.php?t=107624
First song in the car that morning was Creed on KLOVE. Yes I did pull out the orange Gomer shirt first thing in the morning and lay it out for the evening.
My son said when we switched to our local station www.pulse995.com that if I won two more tickets that he would go. He dropped out since the original show was scheduled 10/30/08 because Need To Breathe was replaced by Brandon Health. Well my best friend said no problem but the irony is that Need To Breathe was on the radio after the show.
My son's middle school math teacher was in the front row (we were in the second row). She called or went to the hall the same day asking for cheap tix. Well there was nothing good so she asked for something better and got stuck in FRONT of us!
Saw Mac before the show and completely BLEW the chance to greet him up close and shake his hand. Our seats were in the first set of doors but I walked up to the second level while kind of looking at this guy in a ball cap. So I did not recognize him or hopefully I would have gone right down and "grabbed" him.
Revive
So Mac was there early because he sang on one of their songs. Do not forget that he produced the album. I'm ashamed to say we do not have it yet.
You could actually buy three albums, the latest from each artist, for only $30. How long are they going to keep publishing hard-copy media like this? Hmm.
Kevin is the lead singer. But instead of pointing out a jacket that looks like Members Only from the 80s just check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0HoANn3x1s
The performance? Better video background than in Spencer on March 6th. Much better sound quality but this hall is excellent so that is to be expected.
Plus Keith went into the audience about ten rows right up to a good friend from church. Then I'm thinking all night, "don't pull me on stage 'cause I can NOT sing."
Brandon Heath
Also better video background.
Good story about going to the Aveda salon in the east village of downtown and dipping his hand in paraffin wax.
You should know by now the Joe Morales(sp?) is an AWESOME singer if you don't get wrapped up listening to the keys.
The Revive bass player and drummer round out the band for Brandon.
Third Day
Intro: NLOTH (No Line On The Horizon) title track from U2's new album. Once again I'm freaking out 'cause they did that in Spencer too. But I just show my excitement by screaming. Just a bit.
Time: 8:43 to 10:05 pm - one hour and 22 minutes - about ten minutes shorter than Spencer. So if they would have done a true acoustic set again it would have been closer in length
This Is Who I Am (I incorrectly predicted Tunnel would kick off this show too) - is this the song where Dave has that fill that blows me out of the water? I'll research this and get back to you.
King of Glory was not played in Spencer. An all-time favorite of mine.
I've Always Loved You - Mac's introduction was around the fact that they are always asked about their favorite song and since he does the talking this was it
There are some shouts for songs. Of course the crazy Italian bellows "Consuming Fire". I so wanted to follow up later with "Holy Spirit" but the time did not present itself.
What is cool is the hand-written sign "Billy Brown". It is before the acoustic Love Song so only Mark and Mac are on stage. It is the old story(funny nonetheless, do NOT get me wrong) of the two founding band members talking amongst themselves (Linda Richman?). They have NEVER done this live and you'll see on Mark's blog someone commented they do want Iowa to be the first place to hear it live. Mac does comment about forgetting that Billy Brown was also Twittered. I need more details on this!!!
Otherside -Tai really does lay down the bass on this track. There is a thread about this bass track. I've tried picking up the bass but have those pitiful ear buds. It reminds me of how Adam Clayton's bass on Magnificent by U2 rocks in my minivan of all places - can you believe it is an Infinity system? I just can't get the same out of Otherside but need to give it a serious play again.
After this song Mac does the announcements and AGAIN announces that keys are played by Scotty Wilbanks from Iowa. Smithtown? How rural is this state to fall for this horrible joke? My son even chimes in, while Mac fesses up that this is a joke, that now this is two musicians from Iowa. The other is Toby Mac's guitarists. Seems like Superchic[k] has an Iowa guitarist.
Cry Out To Jesus has a very good and decent length Gospel presented by Mac)
Revelation
Encore:
Tunnel - now this is like what the Dead did (and do on tour this spring with Warren Haynes on guitar) and that is really shake it up from show to show. First song in Spencer and one of the last in DM. Yes I also wanted to bring a sign and put things like "Shake This House" or "Alien" or "Holy Spirit" on it.
God of Wonders with leader singer Keith of Revive and Brandon Heath. Mark says in his blog, another one of my threads, that this is a favorite part of the nite for him.
Mark just continues to amaze me and love him all the more as a musician. The crowd had to be wowed and I'm just waiting for the comments to flow in.
Pix coming tomorrow?
