There are the matchups for the first round... who do ya'll want to win each round, and who do you want to take the cup?

I would personally love to see the Blues take the cup, as all my teams are out (Thrashers, Leafs, and Sabres... if that doesn't make sense to you, I don't understand it either)

First Round:

Western:

Sharks vs Ducks
Red Wings vs Blue Jackets
Canucks vs Blues
Blackhawks vs Flames

Eastern:

Bruins vs Canadiens
Capitals vs Rangers
Devils vs Hurricanes
Flyers vs Penguins

I bolded the teams I want to win... your turn :)

I'd SOMEDAY like to see my two home teams battle it out for the Cup in the final round. It'll probably will never happen, but a girl can dream, right? ;)

So Sharks vs Canes in a final Game 7 battle in the last round.

I'm more than glad my Vancouver Canucks made the playoff this year; 1st time in 2 years.

I've been a fan since I was a kid, I watch them make it to the finals 2 times in my lifetime. I hope upon hope we have a great playoff run.

Go Wings!

And the Blues won today, so they actually will be up to 6th and play the Canucks, Columbus will play Detroit(and lose, I might add ;) ), and Anaheim will play San Jose. I think...I could be wrong, but I think that's right.

Too bad Montreal has to play Boston, but hopefully they can pull off the upset.

The Blackhawks should easily beat Calgary.

I'm only Minnesotan by marriage. :D

I actually grew up in San Jose. I am slowly being Minnesotized when it comes to sports. I root for the Twins and the Wolves and the Gophers. But when it comes to hockey I'll always rooth for the sharks.

A Canadian team hasn't won the Stanley Cup since 1993, so the cup should come back to Canada. The average American doesn't follow Hockey; its against the law not to like Hockey in Canada.

The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. They are known primarily for hockey but they are improving in basketball with Tubby Smith as their coach.

It depends on what part of the US you're talking about. Here in Minnesota a lot of the high schools have hockey teams. If you go to the Excel center where the Wild play they have the jerseys of all the Minnesota high school teams on display. Here hockey is every bit as popular as baseball and football and more popular than basketball. I think the same can probably be said for Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois and a lot of the states in the northeast. But even in areas that are not thought of as traditional hockey areas such as the west-coast and the south it is gaining rapidly in popularity thanks in large part to NHL expansion.

But hockey's still not that big in Illinois; basketball's still considered next to God. Of the 750 or so high schools in the state less than 100 offer hockey as a sport, and the governing body over high school sports doesn't even recognize it on their web site or sanction a state playoff system for the sport. It essentially operates on the level of a club sport.

Of course, the reason basketball is next to God in Illinois is because Illinois is next to Indiana, where basketball is God......:D .

Steve, you're right on about Minnesota and Wisconsin, but basketball is still king in Illinois, where it's considered next to God.

Of course, the reason basketball is next to God in Illinois is because Illinois is next to Indiana, where basketball is God.......:D

Same thing here in Raleigh. It's all about NC State and the Tarheels. I don't actually follow basketball, and only know when they're playing when our CBS affiliate repeatedly preempts prime time programming during basketball season in favor of airing the bball games. Great fun to try to find your favorite prime time tv shows to record at 3:07am every week.

But hockey is holding its own here too, especially after winning the Stanley Cup back in O6 (which I just about cleaned out my savings going to every homegame of that playoff run  ) and now being back in the playoffs again this year. Not going this year though, I'm still paying myself back from when I bought the new car a few years back, and with U2 tickets coming up this morning, I'm just about tapped out for cash this year.

Of course, I already knew that, since I happen to live with one.

Also, it is kind of sad...we won't be able to beat the stuffing out of the Avs on the way to the Cup this year. Perhaps a certain Game 7 might ring a bell...I think there was another 7 that had something to do with that game...maybe it was something about the score. ;) :P :D

OK I stand corrected about Illinois. However, being that one of my best friends is a hockey nut from Wisconsin I can pretty confidently tell you that Wisconsin is a strong hockey state and I am pretty sure Michigan is as well. His hatred for all things Golden Gopher makes this time of year interesting for us. He refers to the Gophers as the evil empire. (Although this was something of a "transition" season for them)

And I couldn't agree more about the level of play at the high-school level in Minnesota. It is phenomenal.

As far as the getting the cup back to Canada; when they figure out how to play football correctly then I'll take their pleas for returning Stanley back to Canada more seriously.

I'd say Michigan is a pretty strong hockey state. There's a few good teams on the college level, and even just on the everyday people level, there's a lot of people who play hockey. I play drop-in hockey on Saturday mornings and it's usually pretty busy. There's also quite a few different rinks around. Also, I'm playing roller hockey this summer at a place that has leagues all year, and there seems to be about 35 teams and 5 different divisions.

That wasn't luck as much as it was poor execution by the Skunkbear secondary. And of course, as a Notre Dame fan I practically fell off of the couch in laughter when I saw the play.......:D

No worries, I just assumed "bro" was like "dude!" which is no longer an exclusively male term these days, I guess. :P

I love all this talk about the Detroit octopus, since it gives me an opportunity, once again, to get in another few minutes of my allotted "15 minutes of fame". Apparently one of my relatives was the first guy to toss an octopus onto the ice there in Detroit. Google "Cusimano detroit octopus" and you'll see.

At least Bruce HAD floor seats, for U2 the whole floor is GA, and as much as I'd like to sit that close for U2 at least ONCE in my life, I wasn't up for risking the one show this tour that I'm able to catch to try and get a good spot on the floor, since I don't have a very good track record for staking out good GA spots at concerts.

The Canes beat the Devils in OT in Game 2 last night. Now they'll be coming back to Raleigh on a high note for Game 3 at the RBC tomorrow night. I may just have to see what tickets are available, if there are any cheap ones left... ;)

None, apparently. While I was waiting for Ticketmaster to generate a location for me - I was on the "your wait time is less than one minute" screen - someone apparently swiped the last available ticket away from me. When i went back in to start over, it said there were none left. At all. Anywhere. I haven't looked again, but hey, that's a good thing. a playoff building should be sold out by the day before game day. Welcome back, New Jersey, to the loudest house in the NHL! ;)

dispite the one sided calls by the refs, the Vancouver Canucks played a great game. I said it before, and I'll say it again. The young St. Louis Blues don't look ready for the playoffs this year.

Go Canucks Go!!!

WOOT!

The Canes tied the series with New Joisey 2-2, when they managed to break a 3-3 tie and score with only two tenths of a second left in regulation! Nothing like waiting until the last minute to score! Talk about the Cardiac Canes! They had to wait it out until the ruling came from upstairs that the puck went in before the final buzzer.

Saw an article in the paper this morning or yesterday morning, that said that even Jersey likes to come and do playoff games down here, because the building is just so LOUD! They say it makes it fun to play in that atmosphere, that the fans really get into it. Oh yeah. You come out of there and your ears are buzzing like you've been at a rock concert...

Maybe not Brodeur so much though... he threw a bit of a tantrum on his way off the ice after the game, whacked his stick into the wall several times until it broke into several pieces. I think it was because he didn't try all that hard to get a goal waved off due to goalie interference back in the first period, and it kind of came back to bite him.

Too bad, so sad. ;)

WooHoo! *twirls virtual rally towel over head*

Third period of the Canes Devils Game 6 just getting started. Won't jinx it by saying anything about the score yet. (Actually afraid that I'm jinxing it just by WATCHING it! LOL)

And the Canes win 4-0 and force a Game 7 in Jersey! Wooot!

(Small hitch though, they've never actually WON a Game 7 on the road before. )

Oh well, there goes the Sharks/Canes Final that I was waiting for. ;)

ONE of these years both teams will make it all the way til the end and give me the opportunity to be befuddled over who I should root for. LOL.

Can't wait to see how many car flags I get to have on my car in the morning - two, or none. :D

(I figured I've got four of them, so I was going to start with one and add on one more for each round they got through in the playoffs. I've been flying one since the playoffs started.)

It'll either be a much noisier (*flapflapflapflap* - in stereo!) ride to work tomorrow morning, or a very quiet one. :P

I did the same thing the year the Thrash made the playoffs... went out and bought 4 blue bracelets :) that was a waste of money :(

And Go Canes!

Weeeee! What a last two minutes! I hollered when they FINALLY tied it at 1:21. Then hollered again when Stahl pulled them ahead with 32 seconds left. Then hollered some more after the clock hit zero.

*pant pant* I'm WIPED out! The Canes' first ever Game 7 road win.

And WHAT a win! :D

Looks like tomorrow is going to be a two flag kinda day! Weeee! :P

LOL. I are indeed loopy! :P

I'm stuck here at home for a bit and can't leave for work yet, so I went ahead and put on car flag number two this morning. It's a little raggedy looking from the wearing out that it got in 2006, but it'll do.

Better than the season ticket holder flags that were given out back in september. I was looking for a pic of my flag style and ran across a blog post from back then. Apparently the Canes bought them from some knockoff place really cheap, and the little flag poles that clamp onto the windows all snapped off while the STHs were driving with them. They were apparently all OVER the place on the streets around the RBC afterwards. :D :P Thought THAT was hilarious. Fortunately I'm not a STH, so I've got nice STURDY flags! LOL.
