In honor of St. Patrick's day, what do you think are the luckiest sports moments of all time?

Hmmm....off the top of my head I've got two: Derrick Wittenberg/Lorenzo Charles in the 1983 NCAA College Basketball title game and Franco Harris's "Immaculate Reception" against the Raiders. I'll have to chew on this one a little more.

I'm going to limit replies to one per sport.

So considering NCAA football a different sport then it would be Boston College's Doug Flutie hail Mary to Gerard Phalen to be the U of Miami.

What about Bill Buckner's botch grounder for the Red Sox against the Yankees(?).

The only one I can think of is when the Red Wings won the cup last year...

they were seriously THIS close to having to go into OT... I remember watching the replay thinking "Yay the Pens pushed it to OT! hockey is not over yet, and the Pens still have a chance" I don't even remember now if the puck crossed the line, I just remember it being down to the absolute last second. And then thinking "My gosh Detroit is lucky!"

I'm sure there are better moments than that... that's just the one that was sticking out at me.

That wasn't lucky...Osgood just made the save. ;)

But more seriously, the puck definitely did not cross the line, if I remember right, it ended up going just wide of the net.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMwVA1Soafg) was the first moment that came to my mind. While it was a heads-up play by Antonio Freeman, it was extremely lucky that the ball never hit the ground.

In keeping with Dorianos trend of one per sport, my NHL lucky moment is when Brett Hull scored the decisive goal for Dallas in the 1989 NHL playoffs while his foot is clearly in the crease. Nice time for the refs to develop vision problems.......:D

But I think if we're gonna talk pure luck we've also got to talk racing, because unlike the stick and ball sports luck in racing often determines the difference between life and death. This is one of the most lucky guys on the face of the earth:

Both videos are gone.

Colorado National Speedway?

Is that in the same class as the Iowa Speedway? www.iowaspeedway.com Rusty Wallace gets a big thanks on this track.

Colorado National would be considered a step or two below Iowa Speedway. (If you're familiar with the Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque, CNS would be in the same genre of tracks). It's a 3/8 mile paved oval, and it's one one of the oldest operating short tracks in the country. It's also a NASCAR sanctioned short track, and as such allows drivers to compete with other Nascar sanctioned short track drivers all over the country for national recognition and prizes.

CNS has about 10 different divisions, ranging from the Late Model and Pro Truck guys who pour big bucks into their cars to the Super Stock class featuring Granny's old Chevelle. The racing draws drivers from 3 states, is extremely competitive, and most nights during the Summer we'll draw a capacity crowd of 10,000. At just $10 bucks a pop for a ticket ($15 for special events) it's a great way to get a racing fix without going broke in the process. We've got a buddy from church who owns two cars that compete up there, and we're out there a lot during the summer. Here's the web site in case you're interested:

Which reminds me.....opening night is in two weeks............:D :D
